Today I'm . . .

. . . putting Halloween decorations away, putting Thanksgiving ones out.  (Am I on top of it or what?!)

. . . making cookies for the Cookie Monster I live with who hasn't had any good cookies in forever.  (According to him anyway.)

. . . making green split pea soup with veggies and sweet Italian sausage.  (My back-up stock of soup in the freezer has been close to non-existent.)

. . . taking stuff from our big storage shed clean-out/clean-up to the donation center in town.  (It feels so good to have a big load gone, gone, gone.)

. . . making fish cakes for dinner with batter I bought from a local fisherman's wife for my hard-working husband who loves them.  (No bones to worry about, you see.)

. . . smiling over another hand-written letter I received via snail mail today (I got one yesterday, too) from a blogging buddy.  (These gals chirk me up, and put me to shame at the same time.)

. . . finished reconciling last month's bank statement.  (And it's only the first of this month!)

. . . feeling tired and logy.  (Wishing I was ensconced on the couch knitting.  Or maybe snoozing.)

. . . wondering if I'll be able to finish this month the new Christmas wall hanging I started before the holidays last year.  (It's been hanging on my design wall for a full twelve months, which maybe isn't a bad thing because in looking at it I've changed my mind on how I want to quilt it a couple of times now.)

. . . enjoying some new sassafras.  (Very good.)  (Geesh, just now noticed I forgot to say sassafras tea.  I need to learn how to proof-read!)

. . . thinking that although all time seems to go by too fast anymore, the two months before the first of the new year come and go with lightning speed.  (I yearn for lots of leisure time during November and December, the first half of winter, but having two major holidays so close together seems to make it impossible.   Anybody else feel this way?)

If you were a bit more anti-social the holidays wouldn't take so much of your time! ;)

I used to do a lot for the holidays, but now we have found a level deemed "just right". I bake ONE treat, I decorate the two rooms we spend 99 percent of our waking hours in, I cut the outdoor decorating in half. Perfect!
I so adore winter---skiing, snowmobiling, reading, painting, baking and cooking. I let NOTHING interfere with that. I did "THE HOLIDAYS" for most of my life. This is MY time now!
Selfish? Perhaps. But you'll never find anyone that enjoys winter as much as hubby and me.
: )

I didn't put any Halloween decorations out this year. I think I'm one of those people who like to decorate with items no one is decorating with (not the same corn stalks and stuff etc.). I don't really have fall decor, so Christmas decor comes out early here, ha ha!

We took most of our halloween stuff (outside) down yesterday. Today I'll do the inside. Turkeys up next weekend. I like to take a breath in between. I've never been the holidays way in advance person. I'd get tired of looking at the stuff :) But I do love thanksgiving more than most holidays, less commercial. And I'm shifting more to Yule celebrations...

I like your list. It makes me feel cozy (as I sit reading here on the sofa by the fire with a pile of Halloween candy).

The last couple of months of the year do go fast, and it seems to get faster each year. I am not a great fan of winter, but would miss it if we had none. That being said, I've always loved "the holidays".

De decorates for the fall rather than Halloween, and will decorate for Christmas the day after Thanksgiving. Those decorations will stay up until the day after New Years. Then winter, then spring, then, summer.... And then we go around again!

tpals - Oh, you really have no idea how anti-social I could let myself be! :o}

Sue - I sure hope I turn out to be just like you when I grow up. Seriously. I'm going to copy this comment of yours and (perhaps) have it tattooed on my forehead so I can read and reread it when brushing my teeth. Are you selfish? Not in the least bit. You are comfortable in yourself and enjoying "your time" in the way I want to. (What days of the week would it be best for me to come for my counseling sessions?)

Kristina - My fall, Halloween and Thanksgiving decorations are my very favorite. Even more than the Christmas ones. So I'm always kinda sorry to see them go.

Nancy po - I like that more and more people are doing more of what feels best to them. (Maybe because of all the commercialization?) Time for me to do more of the same!

JJ - Glad to transmit cozy feelings to you, m'dear. Reading on the sofa by the fire sounds delectable . . . but by the second piece of candy I'd be starting to feel sick. On the other hand, give me a big bag of potato chips and I'd be good for the duration!

Mark - Whoa, whoa, WHOA! I think you just zoomed us through another year! ;o)

This year is galloping off for sure. Do you have snow yet? I got rain Friday night little over an inch which is lots when you consider we only got 6 inches total last year.

Tombstone Livestock - We had a light snow covering one morning last week . . . actually a little early in the season for us.

Great big congratulations on your INCH of rain! Let's hope this is the start of a different weather pattern for you. Bring on the moisture for all of you who get so little of it!

I suppose I should take down my 'two' Halloween decorations. I had good intentions of making a new one (wreath of glow-in-the-dark rubber eyeballs - I know, I'm weird), but didn't cut the form out until AFTER Halloween. Lame. I am trying not to make an Inside Winter List. It puts too much pressure on me. And thank you for the soup reminder! I am out!!! Gasp! I could easily ignore both Christmas and New Years. Very easily.

Susan - TWO Halloween decorations??! Wow, you really go all out, don't you? ;o} Sounds as though you and I could be charter members of the Scrooge Club. (Let's do it!)

Well, just think. Stay-inside weather is upon us! I'm always ready for the winter break, even though there's still lots to do. Your list is proof of that!

Leigh - I'm really, really hoping for more down time this winter. I think we need it to rest, relax and rejuvenate! Maybe I make more work for myself than I need to . . . I get so used to making the horrendously long lists all spring/summer and fall that I just continue it through the winter months. Must stop!

My goodness, your "to do" list is as long as mine. I agree we need to take some down time. But there is always so much to do, even when we can't work outside. Hope you take a day of rest for yourself soon!
