Our Long, Mild Fall May Be Over

It was snowing like crazy when we went to bed last night, and we wondered if we would wake up to a foot or more of the white stuff.

That didn't happen, but this just may have put an end to the gardening season.

Happy Halloween, everyone!  Have an enjoyable, safe one no matter how you celebrate.

We got the snow, too! Today is sunny and cold. Time to get serious about cleaning the yard and finishing projects.
Stay warm-
Rhonda

No snow, but the frost was on my pumpkins! A morning "high" of 27*. We may be getting the first of our white stuff this weekend. Boo.

I live in Ontario, and we also woke to a dusting of snow this morning. Ready or not...

We were to get snow last night too. It's the kind that doesn't stick, but I didn't stay up to see it. It's blistering cold and windy today. The fire is warming our tootsies today.

Sue - Seems yesterday's snow was fairly widespread! We haven't had more snow but our temp this morning is 21°. No more Mr. Nice Guy, the weatherman says!

odiie - Not only get serious about cleaning the yard and finishing projects . . . but this may put an abrupt halt to those things!

Susan - Does this all seem a bit early to you? Is this the start of another heavy snow winter? Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

Sandy - I'm writing this Saturday morning and we had no fire overnight so the temp at 5:30 this morning in the house was 54°. I made an executive decision and started a fire in the kitchen AND the livingroom!

J Yale - Yep, that's the word this time of year . . . ready or not, it's comin' . . . or maybe it's here already!

Kristina - I haven't looked at any forecast to see what the next few days are supposed to bring for us, but I have a feeling our "warm" fall days are now officially kaputz!

Eeeeek! Now THAT's some scary stuff. Fitting for Halloween, I suppose.

Carolyn - Actually, EARLY for Halloween! We often seem to have nasty weather (cold and blowsy) for Halloween, but rarely snow. Some of it melted yesterday but some in the shady, sheltered spots remains today. Brrrr! 21° this morning. Brrrr again!

Snow is our mountains tonight and will freeze tomorrow night. Winter's coming on...

Can't believe after being so mild with no freeze, you got SNOW! Does seem early. We had a gorgeous Oct. with highs in the 70's low 80's. Just had a killing frost a couple of days ago. It's midnight here and still 59*. Very weird, but wonderful. I roasted baskets and baskets of cherry tomatoes today (olive oil, s/p and other ital. seasonings. Never have done this before.. couldn't bear to waste any tomatoes (not a good year). They tasted great and have read that they freeze well this way. The frig is full of apples (too warm for root cellar). The garden is done (WHEW). Hope you don't have a winter like last year's!! God Bless. Misty in Paradox.

Nancy po - Did you see any of the snow by you over the weekend? Yep, winter is indeed coming on . . .

Misty - Golly, your temps seem really high for this time of year. And you're having the same trouble getting your root cellar cooled off enough the same as we are. Well, actually we've had several nights now of really cool weather so we did pull the rest of the root crops from the garden this weekend and put them in the root cellar. It's not quite as cold as we need it to be, but it was time to get the stuff out of the garden. November 1st? Well, I guess so!
