A Good Tired

We had a really productive day today, got a gazillion small jobs done, and to top it off, had a whole day of bright sunshine.

The highest temp I saw on our thermometer on the north side of the house in the shade was 41° but I know it must have been well into the 50s (maybe 60?) in the sun.

Hubby climbed up on the roof and cleaned the two wood stove chimneys, and did a big bunch of sorting and cleaning in the garage.

Together we attacked the bottom of a big closet where we had stashed boxes of miscellaneous stuff (it hadn't been cleaned out in over five years . . . oh, for shame!) which we went through, jettisoned some things, put other things in storage elsewhere and, guess what? Ended up with lots of prime storage room for more appropriate items.

I defrosted and rearranged two freezers, cleaned and sorted my little pantry area, and went up to the farm to get a fresh supply of milk products.

On the way to the farm I cross a bridge going over this little stream which is plum full with all of the spring run-off.

This shot was taken from the other side of the bridge. Now that's what you call a babbling brook!

I just love this big, old windmill on the dairy farm. I'm not sure if it's actually hooked up to pump water anymore or not but the wind was blowing, and it was spinning merrily away. I could have stood there and watched it for a lot longer than I did.

I drove the slightly longer way home because I wanted to go through a heavily wooded area to see if all the snow was gone. It was. I stopped by this little stream which isn't nearly as big as the one on the first half of my journey, but pretty none the less.

It feels good to have accomplished all the little tasks we did today. My muscles are also feeling a little stressed and strained from moving what must have been a couple hundred pounds of frozen food out and in of the two freezers. But it's definitely a feel good tired. It was a good day.

Huzzah for days that end in Good Tiredness! I have not played as much as I'd like--weekends are my off-farm workdays just now--but The Piper and a friend filled & prepped two cold frames for me while I was at work on Saturday! Only problem is I can't decide what to get going in them. Brassicas? Mesclun mix? Flowers? Too many seeds, not enough places yet for them to land! I also put peas to soak, in a fit of enthusiasm, but I'm wondering now if I really have any good places to put them where I can come up with enough protection from late frosts AND early chickens!

It is always a really good feeling getting all those little things done. After I have a catch-up day like that, I usually think "That wasn't so bad, why didn't I do that sooner?" Then of course the next time some job like that needs doing I think "That won't take long - I'll do it later!"

Looks like spring is really on the way to you guys. Any bulbs coming up yet? There are daffodils coming up in NE OHio

Hey, MaineCelt - Wow, you really are going to town on getting some crops in early! Go for the greens . . . people (including me!) are always so hungry for those first real salad fixin's.

What's your current off-farm job for the weekends?

Hi, Jen - No bulbs here yet but I'm betting up over the ridge behind us where it's just that much warmer, things are starting to show.

Curious you should state your thoughts on "onerous" chores. This was the message from Abraham-Hicks this morning:

"If there is something that you have to do, resist the temptation to do it under duress. Ask yourself, 'What's the worst thing that would happen if I didn't do this?' And if you can get away with not doing it at all, don't do it. And then imagine what would it feel like to have this done. Spend a day or two, if you can, just 15 minutes here, 5 minutes here, 2 minutes here, here and here, imagining it completed in a way that pleases you! And then, the next time you decide that you're going to take action about it, the action is going to be a whole lot easier."

What think you of that?!

I love spring streams, as long as they don't overrun their banks! We got a ton of random chores done too this weekend, hubby is leaving on the ship tonight so I had to made sure I put him to work beforehand! I hope to be able to find some time to blog today, I have been really lazy with that while trying to get outside and sate my Spring Fever! Oh, and thanks SO MUCH (she says with sarcasm) for reminding me to defrost and reorganize my freezer... :)

Mom, you forgot to mention the time and energy it took to skin Tucker, your granddog, after he dug to China in one of your perennial flower beds! ;)

Okay, more mesclun mix planted!

In answer to your question, on Saturdays I work 10-6 in a British import shop. On Sundays (and a couple half-days a week) I'm doing an internship at a local U.C.C. (United Church of Christ) church. I'm really enjoying it. The congregation is really friendly, the church is very welcoming and progressive, and the senior pastor is one of the most down-to-earth people (and funniest preachers) I've ever met!

Hey, Erin - Come on . . . you know you just want to tear into that freezer, pull everything out and then try to fit it all back in again. Actually, I promise you'll be glad when you do it. I now have a much better handle on what I have in there and even more room now that I've organized it and (truth to tell) thrown out some stuff that had a 2008 date on it!

Chicken Mama - Thanks for reminding me about what that darling, cute, little Tucker dog did. I've been trying to blot it out of my mind.

Hi, MaineCelt - I'd be very interested in hearing more about your internship at the church. (And I'll bet others would, too.) A blog post maybe??
