Wolves in the Middle of the Night

Wolves are closely related to dogs.  Or is it our dogs are closely related to wolves?

"I've been waiting and you're late."

"Sorry."

And they're off.

Neat! I would like some wolves. The best I've got is a three legged coyote

Too cute! Wolves are an intricate part of wildlife. They are beneficial while also being a hazardous foe for ranchers. Amazing to watch family interactions.

SmartAlex - Well, a three-legged coyote is better than nothing! :o)

tpals - Amazing that the first wolf parked on our driveway right in front of the trail camera, isn't it?

Goatldi - Yep, they are nothing to be happy about when it comes to taking livestock. A few years ago, we had a very difficult winter for the wolves and heard of many family dogs being taken by them. Even in bright daylight. All a part of nature, but sometimes it's very sad.

Dang. I think I'm okay without wolves. I'm not happy about the coyotes either. I was here long before their arrival, and was quite happy without them, even though their song can be beautiful. Nice photos, though, Mama Pea.

Oh wow!! Were those your trail cam images? We have coyotes and foxes in the area, but I'm pretty sure there are no wolves. -Jenn

Granny Sue - In a way, it gives me shivers to know that we have quite a few timber wolves right here on our property. When we're hiking our trails in the woods or walking our driveway (where these pictures were taken) out to the road to get our mail we have never seen a wolf. So I guess what I'm saying is that they may well see us but remain invisible and have no desire to harm us. (Fingers crossed!)

Jenn - Yes, the pictures are from on our trail cam set up on our driveway. We have caught pictures of foxes and coyotes on the camera but have never known we have as many timber wolves as we've gotten pictures of this winter.

We have never seen wolves on our cameras, and not particularly wanting to! Great shots, however!

wyomingheart - Since wolves are a part of the wilderness up here, it's fun to see some of their antics caught on our trail camera. Still, we know to have a healthy respect of them. We've been wondering if this spring we might possibly catch a shot of them with some of their pups. That would be great to see.

So cool! I love wolves - we have coyotes here and I think I'd rather hear the howling of wolves over the maniacal noises of the coyote. The captions are priceless!

Susan - We can always tell the difference as to whether we hear a pack of wolves or a pack of coyotes "singing" at night. Those coyotes are yappy little things!
