What We Do For Fun

Papa Pea and Gilligan went to pick up 30 bales of hay this morning with the truck and high-sided trailer.

When they returned home, the bales needed to go into the hay loft, which with the help of our tractor with the big bucket, was no big problem.

Chicken Mama was stationed up in the loft, Papa Pea ran the tractor, and Gilligan stacked five of the square bales in the bucket leaving just enough room for him to ride in the bucket with the bales.

The bucket was raised to just outside the hay loft door where Gilligan hefted them to Chicken Mama who took and stacked them.

After the last load, Chicken Mama hopped in the empty bucket with Gilligan and they got to go for a ride down to ground level.  (Bad picture, I know, but I had to snap it while I could.)

"Okay, kiddies, the ride's over.  Everybody out."

No, I wasn't in my quilt room (darn!) while this work was going on.  But I was finishing laundry and baking bread.  I hope I get some (a little?) credit for that.  (Although I think it would have been more fun to get a ride in the bucket!)

Had a friend who needed to get a swarm of bees (w/hive) out of a tree in their field. Her husband wanted her to do it from the bucket of their tractor but she opted for a ladder in the back of a truck. You know, just in case she had to flee quickly. Here's a link about the hive itself ... http://foxtrotfarmnews.com/open-air-honeybee-colony-see/

It is ALL about having the right equipment! That almost sounds like fun!

DFW - I don't know if a ladder in the back of a truck would be much safer to get down and out of the way of the upset bees! Thanks for the link.

We're finding the big bucket on this old tractor we got this summer is a super handy piece of equipment to have!

Susan - And has this tractor with the bucket on it ever been handy! We really lucked out to find it right here in the county. Papa Pea could even drive it home!

Our tractor was proper poorly this summer and we missed it terrible so we bought a second one a bit bigger, very useful equipment to have around hauling stuff that saves your back,

Our hay bales are the big round ones, which our elderly tractor has trouble lifting, so the bales have to be pushed along the ground into their storage spaces!

Isn't is wonderful to have the equipment needed. It has taken us a very long time to get in that position. (so far, you never know what will pop up).

Oh that would be great FUN!!! Riding all over the place in a bucket. :)

Dawn - Yep, having the right equipment sure does save a lot of time and energy. Made getting the hay bales into the loft super easy! Glad you got a back-up for your ailing tractor.

Vera - Ugh, you don't have to go to the gym for a workout after moving those round bales around using people power!

Glenda - We haven't had a tractor for a little over 20 years so you know how tickled we are to have this one. So energy saving!! We had a couple of big trees come down across our driveway a week or so ago and pushing the big butt ends into the woods was so easy with this lovely piece of equipment!

MrsDM - Yes, fun for the "big" kids as well as it would be for little ones. I'd be too cautious to let little ones do it though!

Rain - Thanks for giving me credit!

Ya know, I've often thought about your eight pets and how you do such a good job of always keeping their beds, blankets, etc. AND your floors looking so clean! It's got to be a daily job to stay ahead of that big hair!. But I know you feel they're well worth it.
