Wanna See My (Belated) Christmas Present?

My dear, sweet, kind husband made me a quilt rack for Christmas.  He mounted it on the wall yesterday.  Okay, so it was a tad bit late.  He really, really wanted to have it done by Christmas, but so much was going on at that time (anybody relate to that?) that I talked him out of pushing himself to get it done.

For a long time I've wanted some kind of a rack on which to hang a quilt on this (what was a) bare wall at the bottom of the stairs from Papa Pea's second story office.

It isn't a large space so we were limited as to what would fit there.  After designing a couple/few racks that were too large (and could possibly inflict head wounds or whole body splats from tripping), we came up with this.

View of space where rack is from the living room.  Stairway to upstairs is to the left, doorway to my quilt room is straight ahead.

The view from my quilt room into the living room.

I am happy with it.  Very, very happy!  Thank you, Santa!

It's beautiful. Your home just "oozes" comfort!

JoAnn - Thank you! I had to give up thoughts of something that would hold 2 or 3 quilts, but realizing we had to work with the space (well, duh!) made it come out just right.

Very nice work Papa Pea and what a beautiful quilt you have hanging on it Mama Pea. It fits perfectly.

Mama Pea said...

Erin - You wouldn't believe how long it took me to fold the quilt to fit just right on the rod and have the blocks centered! Geesh!

Mama Pea said...

Sparkless - Thank you! I think I need to make special quilts to hang on there each month, don't you? (Encourage me, please.) ;o)

It's perfect, and the quilt is lovely!

Yes! Enabler here. A quilt a month to celebrate the individuality of each month. And then a quilt for each of the four seasons. That is 16 quilts in all are you ready to accept the challenge? Mr. Pea creates in wood as you do in fabric. Match made in Heaven. Love your home.

What a great carpentry design. Where did Papa Pea get it? The shelf above allows for another display (books, candle, plant?) Love it. It was the perfect spot too!

Mama Pea said...

Laurie - Thank you, thank you!

Michelle - When hanging the quilt I realized the bigger the quilt, the more of a challenge it's going to be getting it folded to fit on the rack so it looks good! (Not a big problem to deal with these days though, huh?) ;o]

Mama Pea said...

Goatldi - Thank you for your nice, nice words. As far as being an enabler, keep it up, keep it up! :o}

Anonymous - After considering many (MANY) designs, I think I can take credit for this final one. Sometimes the simplest is best, right? And, yes, I have to yet decide what would look best on the shelf. Not enough light for a live plant, we always need another little spot for books . . . still thinking!

DFW - If I remember correctly, the quilt block is Inside Passage, but I changed the color placement of that particular block and made the "geese" fly in the opposite direction! And thank you!

Mama Pea said...

Susan - You were a natural in the quilt room! Done any quilting since? Like, in your spare time?? ;o}

Kristina - Give the man an idea and he can carry it out! Thank you!
