Welcome Winter! (Or Not)

I have a cross stitched hanging I put up at the beginning of every winter.  It shows a happy snowman with the words "Welcome Winter" stitched on it.

This sampler was taken down and put away until next year a couple of weeks ago.  Apparently, Mother Nature didn't get the memo that we were no longer welcoming sleet, freezing rain, ice and snow.  We were not welcoming more winter.

This is going out our driveway this morning.  The snow has continued to come down all day since then.

Our mailbox across the main road out front.

When we went out to do mid-afternoon chores, we shoveled and did a little clearing.  Looks to be only an actual build-up of about 3"
of snow but the consistency is like that of snow cone slush.  If our temp hadn't stayed around 33° all day, I have a feeling the measured inches would be more.  As they say though, it ain't over yet.  The snow is predicted to continue until after dawn tomorrow morning.

Lastly, bye-bye raised garden beds.  They're disappearing.  Again.

Oh no! I say that sheepishly. If I had not already planted my garden, I would have welcomed it with open arms. But, not after we got a tease of spring temps and all that glorious sun. You are a patient woman!

Oh, I'm so so sorry.
Free Fertilizer?
Sorry. That's is so not funny right now.

(and PLEASE do not send it my way!!!!!!!)

mari - Yes, it always does! :o]

Dawn - March (and April!) snows do seem to vanish fairly quickly. Any temp above 32° allows melting, even slowly.

Laurie - This is part of what is so neat about having blogging friends. Look how different our climates are! I can experience spring through you for a couple of months before it makes an appearance here!

Sue - Yep, poor man's fertilizer it is!! And I should be grateful for it. This new moisture will be a good thing for giving the soil and plants enough moisture when the spring breezes would otherwise dry things out too much.

My daughter is kind enough to change my header photos when I ask her to (yes, I'm still a terrible dunce when it comes to a computer's inner workings!) and I asked her to put this one up a few days ago when I thought we really were entering spring. Now it seems very premature, doesn't it? :o(

Can I please send some 88 degree temps your way? That is hot even for us in the deep south this time of year. Supposed to 'cool' down a bit this weekend though. Here's to hoping your snow melts quickly.

Mama Pea said...

DFW - Well, that 88° weather would definitely melt our snow in a jiffy-quick manner!

That is a wonderful thing about blogging!

I just noticed your header and that picture is gorgeous. Who is the artist? I love the sheep under the trees. My husband is in the wool business and I would love to have one of these to hang in our home.

Laurie - Ha! I feel a little foolish (considering our current weather -- snow covering everything!) having that "spring-ish" header photo up now. It seemed like such a good idea a few days ago when we were oohing and aahing over the green grass we were seeing out there and thinking we were really having an early spring.

It is one of a series of the four seasons that Currier & Ives did and should be readily available should you want to track down a copy.

My grandmother had the four prints hanging in her living room so I've always had a fondness for them.

We are getting snow, but are getting much colder temperatures this weekend. So glad we took advantage of the warmer weather and grilled steaks.

Kristina - You may have to wear a snowsuit this weekend to sit out on your lovely porch! We, too, are to have a week of cold weather again.

Not foolish at all to hope and look forward to Spring. I love it and thank you for giving me the name and series. I am going to try to track it down. Thanks, Mama Pea!

Laurie - You're very welcome!
