Calgon, Take Me Away!

Any of you old enough to remember that commercial?  No matter.  It was pretty silly anyway.  The gist of it was, "I need a rest and time to myself."

Both Papa Pea and I have been working really hard physically all week and our wagons are draggin'.  So we're taking a self-imposed day off tomorrow to do only things that we want to do.  Not to say we haven't wanted to do the things we've been accomplishing this week, but tomorrow is to be more of a relaxing, fun time, do only what is classified as fluffing off, pure entertainment, indulging in time doing whatever re-energizes and re-fuels our personal beings.  (You know, those things that responsible [ha!] adults put off until we "have the time.")

Truth to tell, for me, it's also going to be a time for my body to recuperate.  What hurts?  My right wrist, my left heel, my lower back, a hitch in the get-a-long of my left hip, both shoulders, my right elbow and a shooting pain in the transitional arch of my right foot.  (Other than that I'm feeling pretty good.)

I wonder if the fact that I'm staying away from sugar is the cause of my body falling apart?  I bet that's it.  Yeah, that must be it!  Pie.  I need two slices of Banana Cream Pie.  And Cinnamon Rolls for breakfast.  And a big bowl of Salty Caramel ice cream.  I'm certain I'd feel better then.

We all need a day off now and again. It sounds like you may need a soak in a hot tub or a massage. Or maybe you just need a day in a lounge chair with a glass of something cold and a good book? Either way I hope you enjoy your day off and your aches and pains heal up.

I'm certain you WOULDN'T feel better after that!!
But-a day "off" sounds like a very good idea. I'm doing the same today--hubby and I are off to the BIG CITY (hahah-Traverse City, population 15 K.) I'm eating out (no sleep tonight-sigh) and hitting a couple antique shops. Have a wonderful day, Mama Pea!

Not only do I remember that commercial, but think of it at times like you! We do all need a day off now and then.... and most importantly to be kind to ourselves. Even though I 'do' not work outside the home'.... in some ways I'm doing more than when I did! Sending 'Feel Better Wishes' to you and pie ALWAYS helps anything! :)

I do remember the Calgon commercial. I remember that was the first time I learned about relaxing in a tub. These days after a hard day of work in the yard, I relax with Epsom salt and baking soda. Lol! Hope you get some much needed relaxation. Have a great weekend. Subtropical Storm Ana is knocking on our back door so our weekend will be rainy.

I do remember that commercial. Had to laugh at the last part - pie, ice cream? It's the only answer to body pain, ha ha!

Mama Pea,

I remember this commercial.........and yes, we all deserve time to relax and recuperate after working our butts off. I think we should all meet up in some tropical place, with large ice tea's and be totally pampered.

Sparkless - It's remarkable how much better I feel after 9 hours of sleep last night! I'm so grateful my body can do hard work and then recover quickly.

Sue - Happy antique hunting! ( I didn't know Traverse City was as small as that.)

Are you SURE I shouldn't eat some sugar??? ;o]

Mama Pea said...

Lisa - When we have the freedom to be at home, we somehow find more than enough to fill the hours! But when it's by your own choice . . . what happiness and joy!

Laurie - Soaking in a tub is something I have never enjoyed. (I know that's odd, but I have an aversion to water in general. Hubby thinks I may have had a bad experience involving water in a previous life!) But I did go to bed early last night and didn't wake until 7 this morning . . . feel GREAT this morning!

I'd love to be taken away to a place where there are no lists...and sugar doesn't stick to your hips. The old adage of all work and no play is so very true! Was there quilting in your day off?

Mama Pea said...

Kristina - Glad you agree with me! I'm now going to go soothe my innards (and other parts) with a big bowl of ice cream. Not. :o(

Mama Pea said...

Sandy - I do like the way you think!

Susan - Today is "the day off" and so far I've done some gardening planning on paper, made a feeble attempt to organize my desk top, read some blogs and done some commenting, conferred with my (artistically bent) daughter to try to make a decision on the color I want to paint the house this summer and . . . and . . . and . . . no quilting so far. But the day's not over yet so there is hope!

All that stuff might not be sufficient if you don't wash it down with a really rich hot chocolate with whipped cream on top, or one of those caramel mocha coffees with the whip cream AND the sprinkles. Don't take any chances on coming up short! If want to sip that while enjoying an extended stay in your favorite chair with your feet up you get double the value.

Mark - I admire a man who knows how to relax and ease any aches and pains. (However, I don't believe for one minute that YOU'VE ever actually done anything so decadent.) I'll let you know how it works. ;o}

I remember the commercial, although from the looks my mom gave us kids when it came on I think it hit home a little more with her hahaha! I too have got some arch pain and some other pains here and there, ugh. Can't wait to hear what you and Papa Pea did on your day off!

Mama Pea said...

Erin - Well, so far we've both been spending time at our desk messes trying to sort things out. We just had a short discussion on "so this is our day off?!" But with the good weather now upon us and wanting/needing/doing so much outside, it's hard to find time for ANY inside stuff. So it's kind of a relief to get to what has been piling up. (Yikes, I thought I already paid that bill!) We've both taken a little break . . . he rode his bike out to get the mail and daughter and I spent some time outside with paint chips trying to decide what color I want to go with for painting the house this summer. Whoopee, do we know how to relax or what??

Pie makes everything better MamaPea. Are you going to spend your me day in your sewing room? I decided I'm doing that next week after getting garden started and laundry and dishes etc. etc. {{{Sigh}}}

Mama Pea said...

Lisa - Hope you have more luck getting into your sewing room than I have today! BUT. I am getting caught up on a lot of things (fun things like reading blogs) that I've let slide this week. Pie makes everything better? YES, IT DOES! :o]

Mama Pea, it's GOT to be the lack of sugar. What else could cause so many minor ailments. Although, with all of them hurting at the time, they add up to major. Have fun tomorrow.

Mama Pea said...

DFW - Naw, nothing major going on, I promise. I just needed someone to tell me I need to bake a pie . . . and eat it! ;o] I haven't succumbed yet, but the weekend isn't over. And if one is going to fall of the no-sugar wagon, the weekend would be the time to do it, right?

Sounds like you burn off those calories!

Mama Pea said...

Nancy po - I'm sure I do burn a lot of calories in a day's time . . . but I also love to eat! Fortunately, 98% of what I eat is good, homegrown food . . . as are all the goodies. But still . . .

I get to relive the commercial daily as I painted the ceiling over our bathtub a sky blue and sponge painted fluffy little clouds all over it. Why not? Sandy

Sandy - What a fabulous decorating idea! Even better than the pictures they put on the ceilings of dentist's work rooms!
