Requested Cookie Recipe

I promised a couple of you I would post the recipe for the Molasses Refrigerator Cookies I made yesterday. So here goes.

They are a little different because of the strong molasses flavor that dominates, but as both of the two individuals who repeatedly dipped their paws in the container of them on my kitchen counter said, "These kinda grow on ya."


3/4 cup butter
1 cup molasses
1 egg
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup raisins
1 cup chopped pecans

Cream butter and blend in molasses. Beat in egg. Add flour and baking powder and blend well. Stir in the raisins.

Divide dough roughly in half and shape each half into a roll about 12" long. Roll the "logs" in the chopped nuts trying to coat them evenly. Wrap in waxed paper and refrigerate about 12 hours or overnight or freeze for approximately 3 hours.

Cut into 1/4" slices and bake on a greased cookie sheet at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Cool on wire racks and store in an air-tight container.

So give 'em a try and see what you think. Remember molasses is high in iron and will give you the strength to get up and do what needs to be done! (Apologies to Garrison Keillor and Buttermilk Biscuits.)

I'm gonna try them,they look good but I'm gonna omit nuts on some for Jerry to have cookies in milk!I'll have to try to figure out the carb contents ,never did that with molasses before. most of your friends are true homesteaders which mean you live n the country ,what are you paying for eggs? this week i did not buy yet ,I won't pay $189 a doz. last week I went to Walgreen of all places ,paid 99 cents

I love molasses! The local poultry feed I buy has molasses mixed in - sometimes I leave the feed bag in the car for days, just because it smells so good. I can just smell those cookies - yum!

Those sound yummy, except I would either leave out the raisins or substitute something else.

Oh no!!!! Another cookie recipe! I don't think I have room in my recipe box for another cookie recipe. Could you just send the cookies instead?

2 Tramps - Yes, you should share with Tramp 1 because you want him to be big and strong, too. Also happy.

judy - Around here, some people are selling "farm fresh" eggs for $2 a dozen, but more for ones that are fed organic feed.

Susan - I know! Certain livestock feed can smell soooo good!

Wendy - I had no idea so many people liked molasses! Once I was watching a little four year old girl from the house down the road and I gave her some molasses cake. She went home and told her mom it tasted "ROT-ten!"

The Weekend Homesteader - I think the raisins add something but then I like raisins. I do think the cookies would be okay by just leaving them out though.

Sparkless - It's a darn good thing we bloggers are so determined (and hooked!) because otherwise with this Word Verification nonsense, we'd be outta here and Blogger would be sorry then!

Mama Tea - It is the weirdest thing with these cookies . . . used to be I was the only one that went crazy over them. This batch would be totally gone already if I hadn't frozen them and am parceling them out in wee amounts!
