I haven't blogged about our remodeling because we realized everything would go much easier, quicker and faster if we finished up some things in the garage first. And that work consists of a lot of stuff that doesn't really show . . . or is very interesting as blog fodder.
The accomplishments today still may not be very interesting, but at least we can see definite progress.
Yes, folks, this is a construction zone. Note tarps handy for covering wood. It started to rain two or three times today but thankfully never amounted to much.
Moving this doorway has been on the list for several years. (Yep, I said several years.)
At long last, ta-dah, the doorway has been moved!
My washer and dryer in the bathroom are moving out to the garage. The easiest way to plumb for the washer was to build a false floor on a small section of the garage. The water lines will now go on top of the cement and under this flooring.
The three-quarter inch plywood (do you know how much a 4 x 8 sheet of that weighs?!) flooring is temporarily laid out. The plumbing will have to be done before we secure it permanently.
So, yes, we're still in the garage. Will we EVER get out of the garage? It's bound to happen sooner or later. Please let it be sooner!

Very exciting indeed! Yes, we want to see all the progress. However, I would need a step stool to reach the washer/dryer now. Unless of course the platform is big enough, then I would just trip up it. Does any one even fall 'down' the stairs any more?
APG - I haven't fallen down stairs in I-don't-know-how long. But I fall up stairs a lot! It's a family trait. My father did the same thing.
Me too! I always fall up stairs, never down. You made a great amount of progress today. It's looking real good.
Lorie - Thanks for the encouragement!
P.S. I haven't been able to comment on your blog. I keep getting the notice "Comments on this blog are restricted to team members." Have you changed things?
Looks good. I am all too familiar with how much plywood weighs. We're getting ready to hang 4x8 sheets of 3/4 inch OSB on the roof and walls of the chicken coop. FUN!
We've been doing so much remodeling around here for the past two years that I don't think we'll ever be done. So I understand perfectly what you mean about those things that need to get done but that aren't really noticeable or blog worthy.
Judy
The most important things are the things that don't show. You are making progress and soon you'll both be sitting back admiring your hard work.
Our washer and dryer is in our hallway which pretty much obstructs the hallway and causes a great mess in my house that I can't hide. I'd love to move my washer and dryer but there's no where to move them to. We don't have a basement and our garage is really just a carport.
Well, now you know if you ever move---decorate the garage FIRST!
Wallpaper, curtains....the works!
Then, when you have to spend so much time there.......
:D
Seriously, I wish I had an attached garage to move the washer/dryer to. It takes up 1/3 of my mudroom-I hate it. The idea for a "false floor" is good for running the water lines.
Looks fabulous Mama Pea! Just remember to get laundry done for a few days before you move the machines. I speak from experience...it will take longer than you think lol.
Wow,that doorway went up fast-just a click of my mouse,-done-new doorway,-at this speed you will have the whole house done by tomorrow. if only that were true!Only hard work merits a job well done, said by--------hell-I don't know. Who's that good looking guy working in the garage?
Looking good! It is so nice to see those tarps and hammers. It means progress is being made. A step has been taken. Around here there is a lot of 'talk' about how it should be done and the action part takes forever. So give your husband an extra piece of pie, you guys are on your way.
Thanks for letting me know about the comment problem Mama Pea. I will certainly check it out. I had some major problems and it must have gotten all screwed up.
Have a great weekend.
That is great progress! Papa Pea's carpentry skills are much envied by me. If I could learn one skill well, it would be carpentry. Everything I build tends to look a little like a bad game of pick-up sticks.
I had a false/raised floor in a section of my bathroom in my old Omaha house. Not only was the washer and dryer up there, but so was the toilet!! It was weird... It was also un-nerving to use a conventional toilet - I felt like I was falling every time I had to sit since I was use to the raised one at home. Too much information ... sorry!! LOL
You'll have the best looking garage in town!
Yvette
yea to visible signs of progress!!
Judy - Let's form a Women Living Through Remodeling support group.
Sparkless - Before we added on and had more space the only place for a washer and dryer was in the bathroom (a stackable unit). But that meant no room for a linen closet or tub. So we've existed with just a shower which is fine with me but hubby really would like a tub to soak in.
Sue - Unless you have a BIG utility room, it is hard to find the right place for a washer and dryer. Still, having one at home sure beats going to the laundromat!!
Stephanie - Is there ANYTHING that doesn't take longer than you think it will when it comes to building or remodeling?
judy- The good looking guy in the garage is just somebody who is living with a tool belt on this summer. Sure wish I could clone him . . . he's a keeper in more ways than one.
Jane - If pieces of pie could make him work faster I'd stay up nights baking! Doesn't it seem that it takes a heckuva lot longer to talk about a project than to actually do it? What really frustrates me is that we'll talk and talk about it and think we're all set and then the next day, change plans. Arrrgh!
Lorie- You're welcome! Hope you get a good weather weekend.
Susan - It's been my experience that so much carpentry work is HARD to do by yourself. So often hubby and I struggle, grunt and groan through something together and comment, "How the heck do those Norwegian bachelor farmers do it??"
Yvette - I'll share my "toilet" story with you now. Last week after my first full days working outside, whenever I tried to sit on the toilet, I'd get about 6" from the seat and my strained muscles (either in my back or legs, I'm not sure which) would give out and I'd drop the last half a foot down. (I had to made sure I was well over my target or I could have landed on the floor!)
Dmarie - I know! Just to have something done that you can actually see every time you walk by . . . heaven!
Yay! I look forward to following all your progress! I feel bad, I'm late to reading this but I got way behind my reading yesterday and saved the best for last, ha :) I can't wait to see what you do with your newfound space in the bathroom. It's "game on" now, get back to work!
The weather cooperated with you! How's your garage now? It should be done now, right? Didn't you think of asking an assistance from someone who's an expert in home remodeling? That should easily get the work done! Congratulations on the progress, btw. :D
