Should I Throw in the Towel Now?

Fer cryin' out loud, I just checked the home page of our local Internet server to see what the weather was going to be like for the next few days.

What do I see at the top of the page in red letters?  A frost warning for us tonight from 2 a.m. until 7 a.m.  I am being warned to cover sensitive outside plants that might be damaged by a frost.

Have you see the size of my garden, Mother Nature?  No, I'm not going to attempt to cover anything out there.  If we should lose a bunch of the garden produce to this nearly unbelievable weird, whacky weather this summer, I'll find something profitable to do with the time I won't be spending canning and preserving.  (Like maybe getting a part time job to pay for the food we'll have to buy.)

Geesh.  This is getting unsettling.  And a smidge bit upsetting, also, but we have no choice but to roll with the punches.

I'm choosing to take a positive view of the situation.  I don't believe we will get damaging frost over night.  No, no, no.  Nuh-uh.  UH-uh.  No way.  Ain't gonna happen.  (Do I look funny with my head stuck in the sand like this?)

Addendum:  Worry thee not, bloggy friends of mine.  Getting ready to go to bed and by our temperature now, I don't think there is any way our temp over night is going to drop lower than the 40s . . .  it would have to plummet 20 degrees to hit freezing.  (Don't cha sometimes wonder what these weather forecasters are smokin'?)

Praying it stays above 32 degrees for you guys. I just found that a new bug is eating my volunteer tomatoes. It has rained so much here that it pains (& stings) me to check every.single.night that I get home.

Wow! Now that is surprising for this time of year. It's kind of too bad you didn't do your renovations this year cause then it wouldn't have mattered to your garden because you didn't plant one. Gardening is always hit and miss depending on the weather. Some years it's too hot, some too rainy, others not enough rain. Then this year it's too cold and rainy. The only good news is there's always next year.

I seem to remember reading about a freak hard freeze in July in Minnesota but I can't recall where. I'm crossing my fingers that this misses you...especially with how difficult your summer has been already!

Well I know it sounds stupid but make sure your garden is watered. Farmers here turn on water for their orange groves during freezing temps. Kinda like full ice trays take longer to freeze than ones that are half full. Build a bonfire, every thing should be too wet to start a forest fire. Or sit by the mail box and wait for our shipments of rice and beans. Must be frustrating to put all that work into your garden this year and have it go down the tubes. All your work on new raised beds, bed covers, weeding, weeding and more weeding. Hang in there .... I'll turn my fans towards Minni-soda and send some California hot air your way, I wish it was that easy. Take care, maybe you better start quilting up a storm so you have more blankets for the beds this winter.

That's a real shock that temps could get so low. It continues to be a wet and cool July here, and the plants are very happy. So glad you didn't lose anything.
