Poly-Game Called Because of Rain

I wasn't brave enough to set up outside for more brush work with the big can of polyurethane first thing this morning because of the dark and foreboding sky. And a good decision it turned out to be because it started raining a little before 11 o'clock. Instead, here's how I spent the morning:

- Early trip to town in order to beat the hordes of tourists taking over my town. (If it's tourist season, why can't we shoot them?)

- On my tuchus catching up on much neglected desk work including making phone calls and (ugh) paying bills. A lot of bills.

- Thought about going out into the garden to attack (or be attacked by) weeds but was pretty sure the bugs would be hatefully horrid because of the heavy, overcast weather. (Wasn't hard to talk myself out of that one.)

- I could have cleaned house but why bother when we're living with sawdust and insulation, tromping in and out with one thing or another and not maintaining much semblance of order as to the normal arrangement of things. (I did have to clean the bathroom though.)

- I have scads of books, decorations on the walls, and most of the contents of my kitchen cabinets which need to be boxed up and stored away in preparation for tearing into the existing kitchen/living room next week. (Yup, I'm gonna get right on that real soon here.)

- This weekend I MUST finalize to the last 1/16th of an inch, the plans for revamping the old cabinets and construction of new ones in my expanded kitchen area.

- I made a second trip into town specificially to mail paid bills and stop at the library (which never opens until TEN A.M. . . . arrgh!).

- Now we have had a late lunch and I've done a mountain of dishes. (I swear we have people come into the house in the middle of the night and make all these dirty dishes I always have to deal with.)

The rain continues to pitter-pat down on the roof (and all other exposed surfaces) so I think it would be a wonderful idea to crawl into bed for a little afternoon nap. Or maybe just stretch out and read for the rest of the day.

HAHAHAHAhah . . . ah . . . hah . . . um . . . hum . . . ooooh. Right.

I just HATE having a bunch of errands to run and things not opening until 10. I like to be HOME by then and in the garden. Or sitting at the table with pie and coffee......whatever. I know my evil mean and nasty doctor isn't reading this.
Sounds like a wonderful day to play hooky. You did bills. You did errands. Enough already!!

(I'm a bad influence. Really. I was the one who made my husband miss his FIRST day of work in 28 years when we met. Ha. And I'd do it again!!!)

You said tourist season, not hunting season. You could always plead "confusion". Heheee!

I vote for the nap. You have been busier than a one legged cat in a sand box.

You're feeling verrrrrrry sleepy...

maybe both! ;)

Sue - I'm noticing that you and I are more and more alike! When I have to go to town to run errands, if I don't do it first thing in the morning I always regret it. I, too, want to get in there, do my stuff and get back home by 10 at the latest. I've spoken to our librarian about opening earlier in the morning but she says they don't have the funds to pay extra employee hours. (Dumb excuse.) ;o}

I'd love to hear the story surrounding your hubby missing his first day of work in 28 years because of you! Go on. I double dare ya!

APG - I don't think you got it. You know, Deer Season, Bear Season, Pheasant Season, Tourist Season???? Get it now?

I really, truly could have laid down this afternoon and fallen right asleep, I'm sure. Tonight we're watching a movie a friend gave us (it's been months since we've watched a movie) and it had better be good or I'll nod off into dreamland.

Dmarie - Ha! The best of both worlds!

A little rain day once in a while is nice. Maybe God's way of slowing us down a bit? I did nothing but laundry today, and boy did laundry NEED doing. It was nice! :)
Oh, and I think maybe I'm responsible for this rain. Want rain?? Water the garden, and within 24 hrs, you'll probably get it. That or hang laundry.

Patty - Oh, you're right! Both Papa Pea and I got caught up on a lot of "inside stuff" that had been sliding by the wayside. We both also were moving at a much slower pace (good for a change?) but were having trouble staying awake!

The thought of applying polyurethane for hours on end strikes terror in my heart-- I react badly to formaldehyde. In fact, the most expensive "investment" we made in our woodshop-turned-house was for two gallons of "Safecoat Polyuraseal," a formaldehyde-free polyurethane. It was $100/gallon, but I really wanted a house that wouldn't make me sick! Here's hoping you have great ventilation in your workspace and no reactions!

MaineCelt - I know very well where you're coming from on the safety issue. I won't even polyurethane in our attached garage. All the work I'm doing is outside where I'll get the least fumes in my lungs. And when the poly-ed wood comes inside, it's shut off from the rest of the house in a well ventilated room for days.

I'm sure your $200 investment was worth every cent.

You should move here we don't get tourists. LOL! Actually in the summer pretty much everyone goes to a lake somewhere and the town is like a ghost town.
I hope you get all your chores done and don't go insane looking at your to do list.

Mama Pea, sounds like a very good day! You deserve a break once in a while:) And I have to agree with you on the tourist issue....and seriously consider it every Friday night, when I have to try and get home (heading north) with the swarms of tourists coming into our state for the weekend.:)
Have a fabulous weekend!!

Sparkless - Hmmmm, going to a lake somewhere in the summer . . . doesn't that sound delightful??

Stephanie - I shouldn't joke about the tourists as they are basically our only industry here. Most visitors to the area are very nice, but you always get the disrespectful, rude ones who spoil it for everyone else. (But those people are undoubtedly disrespectful and rude when they're home, too.)

I am so glad you're ahead of us on your kitchen remodel project. I want to see what you do and why you do it, in short I want every glorious (or is it gory) detail! Especially about those cabinets. I too need to revamp plus add. It's a pain in the keester to get it perfect to the nth of an inch!

Mama Pea said...

Leigh - Unfortunately, I am not (not, not, NOT) a person who enjoys remodeling in the least bit. I like my status quo and no changes. Having said that, of course, I want changes and, most of all, a finished house once and for all! (How's that for putting myself between a rock and a hard place?) No matter how good your plans are, how many hours you've spent on chasing down every little detail, it seems when it comes right down to the "doing," changes are necessary as you get into it. That drives me bonkers, too! Oh, lordy, it's such (not) fun. I'm sure it would be a lot different if we had Martha Stewart's money and staff of thousands, wouldn't it? Choices and plans (and sleepless nights) would be other than what they are!! :o}

And Mama Pea...I hear you about the dishes.

I swear, some days it seems like ALL I do, and there are only 2 of us. Yet, even when I've done the supper dishes at the last minute before I go to bed (I hate waking up to a dirty sink!), I get up (after the Irishman has made his breakfast and gone to work) and VOILA! there they are...more dishes.

sigh....

Mama Pea said...

Akannie - I think we may be twins separated at birth . . . and ten years.

I can't go to bed with dirty dishes on the sink either. Matter of fact, I can't prepare a meal if there are dirty dishes on the sink! Do you think I need help?

So tell me, do you have an automatic dishwasher?

Well, you can't shoot the tourists because a) they may be heading to Chicken Mama's to buy her beautiful artwork and b) it may be me someday! I hate paying bills and making telephone calls. But, when the weather forces you inside, you have to pull up those big girl pants and just do it. I don't envy you the kitchen remodeling. For someone who needs order, that will be life on the edge!

Tourist season here, too, grrrr! What can we do though except dream, right? Since both of our towns depend on them :)! I hated driving up there last year with my Virginia plates LOL, I felt like saying "no, REALLY, I'm from MN!" haha!

Your day sounds a bit like mine, I can't really start anything this late in the day after picking up the kids, it's getting so hot again I don't want to go out, yet I have so much to do! And here I thought I was under the gun since hubby's sister is coming Wed, just found out it's not until Saturday... when did I lose so much of my mind?

Mama Pea said...

Susan - I am NOT good at this remodeling game. Not good at all. I like order and routine. I am a very hard person to live with while this is going on. My husband would like to send me somewhere far, far away. Except he knows I would be even worse when I came back and saw it was not done the way I wanted it. Amen.

Erin - I just love your line, "When did I lose so much of my mind?" I think I'm going to use that as my own. Lucky you, that your company comes several days later than you had expected. But you're probably already ready, aren't you? C'mon, confess!

Oh, no Mama Pea...no auitomatic dishwasher here--unless you count my robotic dishwashing methods. lol

All one big mindfulness meditation, washing dishes is for me.
