Totally Wet

Even though it's not raining today, I'm not sure how it could be much wetter outside. Forty degrees, gray, foggy, misty, and damp. Does it feel cold? Uh-huh. Yup. Suuure does.

Our pond has developed a big, ugly-colored puddle in the middle of it overnight. (The temp didn't even get down to freezing last night.)

Mother and Father Goose came out to check the situation this morning.

"I heard some green grass had been spotted."

"I don't see any green grass." "Do you see any green grass?"

"Nuts! I'm goin' back into the house."

The geese are so cute! What do they like to eat when everything is covered in snow? It is something I never thought about, having never had geese...

Wonderful pictures and captions! You can almost hear them talking. Do you keep your geese in with your chickens in the winter (or otherwise?) I'm trying to come up with a better arrangement for my ducks, who don't seem as bright as my chickens - which is saying something.

LOL! That was great!! Ha ha...I actually made some quacking noises to add to the dialogue, although they really should have been honking noises huh? ;)
We have the same weather, and everything is a slushy mess!!

Cute! I think everyone is ready to see a little green.

2 Tramps - They get ground feed, whole grains and leafy hay. In the spring, summer and fall when they have access to grass their consumption of what we have to feed them goes down to practically nothing. They love the grasses and graze ALL DAY LONG.

Susan - Not in with the chickens. The geese have their separate little house. When we had ducks (all of ours are in the freezer now) we tried to house the ducks and geese together but the geese beat up on the ducks too much so we had to house the ducks separately, too. I don't like the ducks and/or geese in with the chickens because they poop so much and make it too wet for the chickens. At least that's the way it's always seemed to work for us.

Rain - I should have had a sound track of intermittent honks playing in the background!

Jane - I know the geese would be THRILLED to have some fresh, green grass to add to their diet.

You could really mess with Mr. and Mrs. Goose----grow some grass in a tub, or old lettuce seeds, whatever. I bet they would be in heaven!

We had the drippy weather today too, but at least it was still in the forties......tomorrow is supposed to be cold and snowy again. And my calendar says ONLY 10 MORE DAYS till we hit the road. I shall send you sunshine and warmth!
Enjoy the weekend!

Sue - Ha! It would take them literally about 30 seconds to gobble up a tub full of greens! But it would be a happy 30 seconds for them.

I bet those geese get excited when they see that pond start to melt! 40 degrees can feel colder than 20 when it's damp, that's what we have all winter, damp, cold and wind!

Ha ha! That's funny! I feel bad for them, all cold, wet, and yucky. But, I guess they're geese, and like this sort of thing. After all, they're wearing a goose down coat.

Erin - Hubby was really hoping they didn't decide to go down to the pond because he wasn't looking forward to having to put on snowshoes to tromp down there to herd them back into their house last night. (They didn't!)

Lori - Indeed they stay warm in this yucky weather. When we butchered last fall we saw how much goose down they actually have under their feathers and right next to their skin!
