As the snow melts, the poultry yard is fast becoming a muddy mess . . . not that the ducks and geese seem to mind at all. The chickens, however, are not that thrilled.
The raised beds are starting to emerge from their blanket of snow. The beds to the right and farther away toward the top of the picture are still almost totally covered. The ground is super-saturated and water is standing in some of the beds that are free of snow.

I imagine we are both feeling the same about weird weather. Give the laydies aka chickens my sympathy. The water fowl certainly have a different standard don't they? Looking forward to the giveaway 😊
ReplyDeleteGoatldi - I just watched two of the ducks on the pond. At first I thought they were swimming (paddling away) but then realized because there are just a few inches of water on top of more ice, the ducks were up to their bellies in water but just walking across the pond!

DeleteWe had the wettest February on record and many more individual (small) snowfalls this winter than I ever remember. :-/

DeleteWe havent had a decent snowfall for years, only a few really good frozen days now the trees are starting to break bud spring is around the corner

ReplyDeleteI don't blame your birds, I hate mud.....especially when it's tracked through the house. We used to lay down straw outside for the birds (when we had ducks many 36+years ago).

Sandy - Yes, I kinda feel we're "wasting" good straw putting it in the mud around the poultry area 'cause it gets packed down and smooshed into the mud in pretty quick order . . . but it does help somewhat.
DeleteToo many mild days here and not enough snow. Our biggest fall was 8" this year, all the rest were 2"-4" at most. Too much sleet and ice.
ReplyDeleteAthanasia - Yes, yes, yes. That describes our winter . . . minus that one 8" snowfall you got. Lots of ice to navigate, both on foot and in vehicles. Not nice.
DeleteMonday is a blur for me lol...shopping day and all, but I think yesterday was the same weather as you had. I remember having "soakers" when I got home...I have to get new boots :)
