Bears Repeating

I just finished putting a Freshy's Blueberry Pie in the refrigerator as a treat later today.

Look good?  If you want to give it a try, I posted the recipe way back in 2009.  (Good grief, was that actually ten years ago already?)

I've been so very pleased to see the amount of blueberries we've been getting this year considering the problem we're facing with the
Witches' Broom fungus.

There's a lot more of it showing up on our bushes during this growing season and as soon as the berries are done bearing, I'm going to remove every speck of it I see and hope for the best.

We sure will be sad if we lose any more of the bushes as we both love blueberries and eat them year 'round for the antioxidant properties they have.

In the meantime, I'll keep taking care of the bushes as best I can and today will enjoy one of our favorite pies.

Are they coming back, after having it removed? Or won't you know till next year?

I used frozen Maine blueberries in my Ninja drinks. Adds color, and all their "good-for-you-ness." :-)

Your daughter had a dry socket! So you KNOW what I have.

Enjoy your pie!

wisps of words - I'm a little mystified by this plague of Witches' Broom. There is more evidence of it on nearly all the bushes this season, but at the same time we've already harvested more blueberries than we did last year. I guess only time will tell what is going to happen. All the information I've been able to gather says that once the bushes are infected with the Witches' Broom, they will eventually die. :o(

Hope you're feeling better now . . . ?

Susan - I didn't know you were such a blueberry fan! We picked more today, some went into the stash in the freezer and I kept some out for fresh eating with cream. (Ooooh, love them that way!) And, of course, we have the pie, too.

Nancy - Shhhh, don't even say such a thing! We have a seven foot high fence around our whole area where everything is planted including the blueberry bushes. We very occasionally see a bear on our property but so far, none have made it through the fence for blueberries or apples!

Oh my, that pie looks scrumptious. Thanks for the reminder! I'm definitely going to have to try it.

Leigh - I MUST make it at least once a year when I have the fresh blueberries. It's a very light tasting pie . . . perfect for this time of year. (So why have my taste buds been thinking of an apple pie so much lately? I must be eager for autumn!) :o}

Your pies always look so good. I'm happy you got some of your blueberries this year. Let's hope and pray you get rid of most of that fungus or whatever it is.

It is so frustrating when you work hard on your garden then pests or disease wipe out your plants! I hope you figure out a solution. But meanwhile, your pie is beautiful.
