Uff Da!

We put in a long day working on our wood supply today.  When coming inside and attempting to sit down on the commode elicits an involuntary groan, you know you've over-used your muscles a wee bit.

I think we felt we had a little catching up to do because we failed to get anything done to further our wood working endeavors over the past weekend.  It rained both days; Saturday we got 1/2" and Sunday gave us 1".

Our temperatures at night have still been dropping down into the 40s so I was beginning to worry about the beans and corn I planted a little over a week ago.  But when I took a quick run through the garden before dinner tonight, I was thrilled to see beans up about an inch and even some teenie-tiny corn sprouts poking through the soil.

The green leaves of the potatoes seem pretty sparse to me, but I remember saying the same thing last year, and we ended up with a fantastic crop.  This is my unfavoritest time of the garden . . . while waiting for everything germinate and sprout.

About 5 o'clock tonight our clear, blue skies of today disappeared and clouds moved in.  Now at 6:30 it's quite gray (AND buggy) outside so my plans for attacking the upsurge of millions of weeds in the garden is going to have to wait.  Possible rain is forecast for tomorrow, too, so I don't know what our plan for the day will be.  We'll have to wait and see what it looks like in the morning.

Now I'm going to get cleaned up by taking a long shower and going to bed early.  Hope you all have a good evening!

Your first paragraph made me laugh out loud! I know about that pain and long days. Glad you had a good day.

40's at night?! When does it warm up around there? The end of July? I should talk about weather though, it was almost 90 and HUMID today.....wanted to just die.

Mama Pea,

I would love to have the 40's right about now. The humidity and heat is terrible but I won't complain because we did have a long winter.

It's hard to get back up and want to do more work when you're feeling the pain in your muscles after doing hard work. A nice long hot shower will help those muscles, that is until you get back out and cut more wood.

Enjoy the climate! Hard work never fails!

We ended up getting our frost the 14th---I lost all my melons and squash and pumpkins, but have backups for them still sitting in the garage. It's sure been a year so far!

Ditto here with Carolyn!!! Our evening 'lows' are in the 70s. All week forecast for mid-90s. Cannot imagine 40's?!!!

Kristina - Ha! Most of us juggling the many "jobs" we have on a homestead know about that pain and long days! ;o) Fortunately, after a night's rest, we're usually able to start all over again!

Carolyn - We're wondering when it's going to warm up, too! The up-side is that we wouldn't have been able to put in the day we did yesterday in your climate. It would have plumb kilt us!

Sandy - You're a better (wo)man than I am, Sandy, to not complain about your heat and humidity!

Hubby is out on the wood pile already and I'm on my way as soon as I sign off here. I'm really thankful neither of us is feelin' too bad this morning.

Weekend-Windup - Hard work never fails to what? Hee-hee. ;o)

Sue - Luckily, we haven't been close to a frost. Consistently in the 40s at night, but no lower. So glad you have back-ups. You've obviously learned from living where you do!

Lisa - And I can't imagine lows in the 70s at night! Well, I can because we get a short period of those temps about once a summer. But it's very short-lived and we kid about having 5 or 6 days of "summer" a year!

Uff Da? Is that a Minnie Soda saying? It certainly says it all, doesn't it? Guess you gotta make firewood while the sun shines, right? Our temps are more summer-like than spring-like and I am NOT a fan. However, the tomatoes love it.
