Today Could Be Worse

We spent yesterday at Chicken Mama's working to bring the Great Moving Adventure close to an end.  Just one more day (this coming Sunday) to get everything removed from the property.

The weather was super-cooperative with temps near 40 degrees and sunshine almost all day.  At the end of the day, I wondered what a pedometer strapped to my leg would have shown in miles walked up and down stairs and across acreage carrying thousands of pounds (maybe it just felt that way) of packed boxes and pieces of furniture.

When we arrived home at the end of the day, I was totally done in, ravenous but lacking one ounce of energy to whip up a delectable dinner for the three of us.  We caved and picked up a pizza for father and daughter and a California burger with onion rings for me.  I guzzled three half glasses of wine while wolfing down my burger.  Near the end of the meal, Chicken Mama asked if she could finish up the last of my onion rings.  I pushed the container over to her apologizing that I had left very little.  She commented that I had, indeed, chowed down in an uncharacteristic manner.

Later, Papa Pea and I each took some Arnica (homeopathic remedy for aches, pains and strained muscles) and crashed in bed early.  (I don't even remember exactly what time it was.)

I slept like the dead until popping wide awake at 3:30.  Got up and watched a couple episodes of Northern Exposure (why in the world don't they make TV shows like that anymore?) before crawling back into bed.

Both of us were awakened at 8:15 this morning by the phone ringing.  EIGHT-FIFTEEN?  What a couple of slugga-beds.

Granddog Tucker apparently had a rough day yesterday, too.

It is now 10:30 a.m. and we've not had breakfast yet.  We've both been swilling coffee and I have a splitting headache and ouchy tummy.  (The one and a half glasses of wine last night apparently did not do good things to my system even though it slid down ever-so easily.)

Today is shaping up to be a bit of a slow day considering our snail-like start.  Just as well.  Schools are all closed along with lots of other cancellations because of the freezing rain we got over night.  Joy, joy.  Freezing rain in the middle of January, for heaven's sake.  I shouldn't complain.  At least it's much needed moisture for the soil.  We certainly haven't been getting it what with the extreme lack of snow so far this year.

Now I think I'll go put another log in the stove to help stave off the gray, gloominess of the day (still dripping out there) and maybe take another dose of Arnica.

As for breakfast, there was a little of the pizza left over last night that I put in the refrigerator.  Think I could pass that off as breakfast/brunch?  Nah, Papa Pea would simply not appreciate that.  Nor would my stomach.

I never knew you could take arnica. I always thought you just applied it topically. Interesting. And I LOVED Norther Exposure. In fact I have been to all the towns in Alaska they mentioned in the show and I spent some time in Roslyn WA where they really filmed it. They still have the town set up the same as they did in the series. I think it was just too much of a 'thinking mans' series. Only TV for dummies is popular now :( Sad.

I am guessing you are going to be so happy to have that all done. It is a lot of work, for sure. Not to mention...where to put it! Yes, the dogs know when they have a long day too. I met Chicken Mama when I was heading in for a hair apptmt so I figured you were headed for another rough day. Got to get better starting next week....right! Foxy Lady :)

Almost finished, almost finished, almost.......

It's amazing how flat dogs can get, isn't it? Thank goodness there is only one more day - although I bet it will be a doozy! Are you finding places to put all the furniture and boxes? Too bad you can't shrink-wrap it and put it behind the barn. I imagine you are ALL looking forward to the end of the great schlep. Hugs to you all.

p.s. Northern Exposure was my favorite show EVER! And I think Jane is right - too much thinking. It would never fly now - in the age of the idiot.

Jane - And the thing is the homeopathic remedies taken orally really work! (We've also got arnica in cream form, too.)

Good to know you're a Northern Exposure fan, too. The story lines were so meaningful and the casting of the characters was simply outstanding. So many beautiful messages shared. The scenery, the music . . . excellent. I blame the demise of the series on Rob Morrow who was so fantastic but, sadly, chose to go on to other endeavors.

Miss you! Hope all is going well.

Foxy Lady - Right on all counts! We're all looking forward to it ending. Yesterday Tucker walked up the ramp and curled up in the back of the high sided trailer. It was almost like he needed a nap but wanted to make sure he didn't get left!

Carolyn - That and keep breathing, keep breathing, keep breathing . . .

Susan - You have no idea how hard it's getting to find places to stash all the loads we keep bringing out.

The Age of the Idiot . . . love it. It's superbly sad, but I love it.

Only one more day and you'll all be done! Sorry to hear you are a bit delicate today. Wine does not agree with me at all so I stay away from it. It gives me a burning face, literally, my skin on my face turns a flaming red and feels like it's on fire.
Loved Northern Exposure when it was on. Thanks for the reminder about it. I'm going to look it up and see if I can find it to watch online.

Ugh, freezing rain... I hope all the power lines and roads stay safe. What a great picture of Tucker-ed Out! Northern Exposure WAS such a great show, I'm now watching "Jericho" on Netflix and thinking the same thing, why are all the shows I like cancelled?!

Sparkless - It's nearly 5 p.m. now and I'm feeling fine. Even bundled up in my rain jacket and ran some errands in town. Came home forgetting the main thing I went for. Maybe the state of my head will catch up with the rest of my body by bedtime. Maybe not.

I think you can get Northern Exposure through Netflix, too.

Northern Exposure is our favorite show of all time, too! The local library carries the series, but someday I will break down and get our own set. I agree with Mama Pea; it went down hill after Rob Morrow left. We also went to Roslyn, WA (during our honeymoon) and watched as they filmed a portion.

Good luck with the last day of moving activities...then you all deserve several days of rest and relaxation!

Erin - It's still raining now at 5 p.m. and the temp reads 36. Hard telling what will happen over night. Hope it turns to snow rather than layers of ice.

I'll have to check out "Jericho." I'm not familiar with that one at all.

Melissa - The Northern Exposure I'm watching is the set Chicken Mama got for Christmas several years ago. (She may have trouble getting it back from me.)

Thanks for the well wishes for Sunday. Yep, I think all of the Pea Family is going to go into a semi-comatose state right after the moving is over. :o}

I'm seriously jealous of the NE set you have. I agree, it was one of our all time favorites. Actually, I don't think we've watched a 'series' since then.

Glad you guys are almost finished moving Chicken Mama. The end is near....

DFW - Gosh, who knew there were so many dyed-in-the-wool Northern Exposure fans out there? Just an incidental note: I once read an interview Rob Morrow did and he was asked two questions. First, which actors in the series were most like the characters they played? His answer was Janine Turner who played Maggie and himself as Joel! Then he was asked which actors were least like the characters they played. He said Darren Burrows who played Ed, and Cynthia Geary who played Shelly. He said both of them were very intellectual! Interesting, I thought. :o)

Hugs and prayers for all 3 of you! I can relate, after disposing of most of what I own to move down here to NC lol.

Stephanie - We all have to do it in the best way for ourselves, but your way would sure be the easier one!!

Norther Exposure was a good one, so was Jericho. We've been watching Alaska: The Last Frontier too. It's a Discovery Channel thing about a family that lives off the land. They bleep out some bad words but its kind of cool to watch a family "do" the homestead thing in real life.

Glad to hear the move is almost done - lots of work for sure! Oh, and we too use Arnica all the time! It is great for muscle aches and pains!! We buy ours from Azure Standard. Are you able to get an Azure order once a month up there?

Mama Pea said...

Freedom Acres Farm - I've got to look up Jericho now, for sure.

Don't know Azure Standard. We get a lot of our homeopathic remedies from a homeopathic pharmacy called Luytes.

Hope you get some decent weather to finish off the move. Dollar has a duck just like Tucker's, guess they made more than one. LOL. Take care, stay safe on those icy roads.

Mama Pea said...

Tombstone Livestock - Don't cha just love the "hoooonnnnk" on that duck? I think I make it honk more than Tucker does.

We will be super-dooper careful on this ice, for sure.
