Sound Board Is Up

The reason for the insulation in the living room ceiling is for a first layer of sound-proofing material. Papa Pea's office is directly above the living room where our TV will be. Not a lot of TV watching will be done there but an occasional movie may be viewed by yours truly. The two people in this household don't very often agree on a movie to watch together (ahem) so most likely if I were to snuggle in on the living room couch and watch a movie of my choice, my better half might well be up above in his office. And since he's sensitive to sound (my, what big ears you have) we wanted to take what precautions we could to keep sounds in the living room from traveling up through the ceiling to his sanctuary. I mean office.

Today we installed the sound board on the ceiling.

We had (foolishly?) thought we would get a good start on the beadboard, too, which goes on top of the sound board as the finishing material, but we had visitors drop in mid-afternoon and we ran out of time.

What with Easter Weekend coming up and some other things that need to be done the first of the coming week, it looks like we won't get back to finishing the ceiling until the later part of next week. That's okay. We'll find something else to do to keep ourselves out of trouble.

Tonight after dinner we're going to do a little clean up work and put the living room back together (take the furniture out of my quilting room and the kitchen) so we'll have a comfortable spot to plop our backsides in the coming several days. It won't take long and will be worth having somewhere to sit besides the kitchen table.

Let me try to post this again. Any sound proofing is good soundproofing as far as I'm concerned. We can hear my husband snoring in the bedroom while we watch tv at night. The noise from the tv or us talking doesn't seem to bother him but I know if I was the one having to get up early it would bother me.

My parents did sound board on my gram's bedroom walls for the same reason....my dad used to work 2nd shift, and the first thing he did when he came in was turn on the tv, which sat on the same wall as her bedroom lol. Worked wonderfully.
Hope you and Papa Pea have a fabulous Easter!

Sound board? I guess I didn't know that existed. I should check about putting that on the wall next to our bed where the TV in the Living Room is. I have to caution (yell) at DH to turn down the sound when I am in bed earlier than he is.

Let us hear how well this works.

Happy Easter!

Is it really called Sound board at the home improvement stores? I love this idea! We still need to finish off our basement and love the idea of using this. All the over-your-head stuff has got to be the pits but once you're done you'll know you two did it the 'right' way.... not the 'quick' way. Also, ya'll must be so organized to think ahead and plan for all the minor details.... and that's hard to do some times! Hope you are having a good Easter weekend!

Sparkless - We wouldn't want to live without our spouses or family but cooperating so it works for everyone sure is a challenge at times, isn't it?

Stephanie - We're crossing our fingers it does the trick. Happy Easter to you and yours, too!

judy - With your good care of Jerry, I'm hoping this little blip turns out to be nothing of significance. Happy Easter to you!

gld - I will definitely let you all know how successful these extra precautions turn out. (Gosh, hope, hope, hope the results are good 'cause it really is extra expense and work!)

Lisa - Yup, that's what they call it. It's a very fibrous (but fairly stiff) composite of ground up particles smooshed together under pressure. It's fairly light so wasn't too bad to work with. Please don't give us too much credit for being organized because we have run into a glitch already concerning minor details!! Best wishes to you, Lisa, for a lovely Easter Weekend.

that Soundboard sounds like good stuff! You have certainly jumped right back into all this finishing work, that's awesome - I know I have trouble getting back into it after a little break!
