If Yesterday Was Thursday . . .

. . . why wasn't I quilting?

Answer: Life got in the way. You all know very well how that happens. I made a couple of feeble attempts to settle in my quilt room, but neither lasted very long.

The morning started with the usual routine while I finished simmering a large pot of Bean Soup and got it packaged up for the freezer. Then the day just started happening with phone calls, necessary small confabs between hubby and me, drop-ins, and other miscellaneous everyday situations to deal with. Chicken Mama was in town (on her day off, unfortunately) to meet with a website client so stopped here on her way home to have a phone consultation and then help me with some computer questions I had for her.

In the afternoon, I gave up trying to quilt and made some Wild Rice Soup and a kettle of spaghetti sauce which I could do while directing traffic and handling other random goings-on at the same time.

I thought maybe I could serve a simple, warmed up dinner (remember the Tagliarini leftovers?) and then quilt for a couple of hours last night . . . but, phooey, by that time I was tired and thinking about an early bedtime. Plan B? Get in some quilting time today . . . which I'm gonna try my durndest to make happen.

So, no quilting going on in the past week but I have been sneaking in little periods of time to do some handwork.

I've been experimenting with the crocheted rag rug techniques to make some hot pads.

I thought these could be used on an informal table (as if I ever set any other kind) to hold pots of soup or hot casserole dishes. Fun to do and they sure do take a lot less time than a 2' x 3' rug!

On to breakfast now and another great day. Hope you have one, too!

Hi Mama Pea ~ I LOVE these! They are so cute and so useful! ...and you inspire in how you cook ahead... Bean Soup, Wild Rice Soup AND a kettle of spaghetti sauce... in one day... Wow! I hope you are quilting today and locked away in your quilt studio.

Love the square hot pad, wonder how that would look in a rug, bet it would look great.

Have a good quilting day today, quilting is not just for Thursdays.

CR - Ya think? Gosh, thanks!

judy - With all you have to do on a daily basis, I don't know how you stay halfway even let alone ahead!

Lisa - Thanks, Lisa! Because I don't use packaged convenience foods, I get kinda panicky when I don't have ready-made stuff in the pantry and freezer. Cooking from scratch (as you well know) takes TIME and being caught short really stresses me.

Am I in my quilt studio? I'm going, I'm going, I'm really, really going . . .

Adorable! You manage to squeeze in a awful lot in those days where you don't get much done, missy.

Mama Pea, I can't believe you just posted this. I've been planning the same thing, as well as coasters and pot holders, and some covers for the handles of my cast iron skillets. Especially the handles of the skillets. I keep having too many close calls with those. I love the round ones!

those mini rugs are so cute! Life certainly does get in the way LOL, at least you have a lot of soup now :)

Your hot pads are a great idea. Hopefully you will get some quilting time very soon.

Love those hot pads!!! Since I cannot find a spot to put a rug (so afraid of tripping on one or having my puppy chew it up), I am definitely going to make some of these. I use hot pads on our table (yes, very informal for us too) all the time and my current ones are looking pretty shabby. Why the heck didn't I think of this? I can even do these at night while watching another British mystery. Wouldn't these be cute for your "5 person gift list? You betcha!!! Now, stop reading this and get back in the quilt room.

Those are really cute! Work gets in the way of doing what I love. Blasted work. Why can't I be independently wealthy?

dr momi - Oh, I didn't tackle the soup and spaghetti sauce until after I'd decided trying to quilt was a lost cause!

Susan - Takes one to know one. (Ahem.)

Stephanie - I think I kinda do, too! Thanks.

Jen - Thank you, ma'am!

Patty - All I can say is great minds think alike! (Hee-hee!)

Erin - I counted the quart containers of soup I have stashed in the freezer. A grand total of 29. I shouldn't have to worry about making soup soon! ;o}

Wendy - I DID quilt all afternoon today. Getting a post on my quilt blog up next.

Karen L. - Well, now ya went and spilled the beans! Yepper, I was thinking of them for my Pay It Forward gifts!

The Weekend Homesteader - They say money can't buy happiness, but I think there are a few of us around that could disprove that!

Tombstone Livestock - Have ya ever noticed how one thing leads to another? Now I want to try a rug in the round and a rectangular one!

Love the rag rug hot pads! Even if you didn't get much quilting done you still had a full day. I hope you get some quilting time in soon.

What a great idea. I love to do handwork in the evening, but I'm stuck knitting a pair of socks that won't go away. Just recently had to rip out most of the second one.

Lorie - Thanks for the compliment . . . but I don't know about the creative part!

Sparkless - Boy, I'm squeaking in all the quilting time I possibly can this month 'cause I have a feeling things are gonna start getting reeeeeally busy next month!

Leigh - Sounds like you and those socks are in one of those "one step forward, three steps back" phases! I hate it when that happens.
