But it was okay, 'cause it was Custard Pie. You know, lots of fresh eggs and milk.
Out of the oven last night, cooled for 30 minutes and ready to be refrigerated.
Served up for breakfast this morning.
Going . . .
Going . . .
Gone!
And then there's the nincompoop who won't eat my flaky crust. Or "the wood" as he calls it.
CUSTARD PIE
1 - 9" unbaked pie shell
4 slightly beaten eggs
1/2 cup honey
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
2-1/2 cups milk, scalded
Nutmeg
Chill pie shell while making the filling.
Using an electric beater, blend eggs, honey, salt, vanilla and almond extract. Then gradually beat in scalded milk. Pour into pie shell. Sprinkle with nutmeg.
Bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes or until knife inserted halfway between outside and center of custard comes out clean.
Cool on rack 15-30 minutes, then chill in refrigerator. Smooooth!

That looks -- so -- delicious! What is the matter with that Papa Pea of yours? Your pie crust is to die for!
Can't let my husband see these posts. He will think it fine to have dessert for breakfast. He will use your argument that the ice cream is full of milk and eggs;)
Just call it a Honey Quiche and technically, it IS breakfast!
It's cooling on the kitchen table.
I MADE PIE AS WELL-APPLE AND A PUDDING PIE YESTERDAY [GONE ] MADE APPLE SAUCE-GONNA STRAIN FOR THE BABY NOW DON'T FALL OFF YOUR CHAIR-YOU KNOW THAT HINT YOU GAVE ABOUT LETTING THE BOTTOM CRUST GET FIRM ,NOT BUBBLY -NOT YOUR WORDS MINE-CAN'T REMEMBER YOURS -YOU SAID USE SOMETHING LIKE BEANS --YOU DIDN'T SAY I COULDN'T USE MACARONI---OH DEAR-WHAT A SCREW UP-NOW STOP LAUGHING, I AM TO CHEAP TO USE BEANS ,HUBBY EATS THEM EVERY WEEK-I HAVE TONS OF MACARONI!
and it was not a macaroni apple pie-I picked out the macaroni that stuck!
LOL that is the reasoning I always gave my mom...it's mostly eggs!! We make ours different though: 1 can sweetened condensed milk, 3/4 can of water, 6 eggs. Whip it together, pour in partially baked pie shell, sprinkle with nutmeg and then bake. Delish! Will have to try your version:)
Looks absolutely wonderful! My family would love to eat that for breakfast. I have a few non-crust-eaters too, but I don't mind, because I eat all of theirs as well as mine. ;)
LOL, I spent my first 30 years ONLY eating the crust! Looks great!
Here I thought it was going to be apple pie!! I've had pumpkin pie for breakfast many a time :-)
I won't eat store-bought crusts---nasty, cardboardy things.....but homemade--oh yes---it could be a meal all by itself!
Hubby won't eat the outside "lip" but he does eat the bottom crust. Go figure........
You are welcome to box up all those crusts he won't eat and send them here... ;) Pie looks great!
Papa Pea needs to eat our pies cause everyone leaves the crusts cause they are so tough. We aren't good at making pie crust here so we wouldn't mind a bit if he left them on his plate.
I need to make that for our breakfast soon. It looks delicious!
Susan - I think he must have had a bad pie crust experience in his childhood.
Jane - Weeelllll, if you made him homemade ice cream . . . ;o]
Carolyn Renee - You be one smart gal!
JJ - YOU must have been in the mood for Custard Pie!
judy - I'm not laughing at you, m'dear, but with you! The question is did the macaroni hold the crust down??
Stephanie - With only 1/2 cup honey in my recipe, it's not really that bad. So let's pretend it's really, really good for us . . . and go for it!
Patty - If he left me any filling, I'd gladly eat his crusts, too. But I gotta have some filling to go with the crust. :o}
Erin - I'm beginning to think you have no room to complain about your two boys' "difficult" eating preferences!! ;o}
dr momi - Pumpkin Pie for breakfast? Sounds good to me!
Sue - What is with these guys??
Mama Tea - Wouldn't you be surprised to get a box of "wood!"
Sparkless - Funny thing is when he is served pie at anyone else's house, he eats the crust. (Maybe there is something wrong with mine . . . )
pie for breakfast--I like the way you think!!
And there is a problem with pie for breakfast? Pumpkin, apple, custard- it's all good for you. Definitely more nutritious than fast food- even if it is pie!!
Judy
Dmarie - I wonder how long I could go eating pie three meals a day before saying that was enough?? Can I try, can I, can I?
Judy - You've got a good point there, Smart Lady!
I had a rice krispie treat - does that count? :)
OMG-I think Judy has a very valid point. Homemade pie IS more nutritious than fast food. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The day just keeps getting better and better!!
:)
Jen - Well, I don't know . . . we all may have to vote on your rice krispie treat!
Sue - You're such a great person . . . it just doesn't take much to make you happy! ;o}
