Project Apron: Done!

Okay, Susan, you tough task master. You made us all sign on the dotted line and commit to getting our aprons done by Thanksgiving . . . and I'm glad you did.

I choose a very simple design, loose and easy to wear but one that should do the job of saving the front of all my classy (ya, right) homestead outfits from stains and splatters. (I really should make a set of sleeve protectors to match because the cuffs of my shirts seem to suffer also.)

The fabric I used is a winter-ish pine bough and holly accented with red berries. I bought it a few years back to make winter pillowcases . . . but that never happened.

The back called for a single button closure at the top but I took the lazy way out and used two snaps instead. (This picture looks like I was told to go stand in the corner for some transgression.)

Wanna know the best thing about this apron and why I may wear it all day, every day until it self-destructs? When my hubby was taking the pictures, he said, "Are you losing weight?" Heck, no . . . and if I were, how could he tell under the shapelessness of the apron? But if it gives that illusion, I'll wear it to cover up my belly, bumps and bulges from now 'til the cows come home.

Thanks again, Susan, for organizing this fun project. Can't wait to see everyone elses creations!

nice apron, I thought about making one out of Duct Tape since it comes in so many colors / patterns now.

It is beautiful. I think maybe Papa Pea liked the fact that since the snaps are in the back, you may need a little help getting in and ......out. Hence his compliment;)

It's lovely! Not at all sack-like, IMHO. I like the fabric, very seasonal.

Oh crap. Now I HAVE to learn to sew. That DOES make you look little. Really little. OMG. Who knew an apron could be the "make your butt look little" outfit of the hour.

I like your apron. Love the design on material too. Ya, it does look like you were standing in the corner. Did you lose weight? :-)

I'm another one who loves the material. It looks nice on you. Maybe aprons should be on my list of homemade gifts to give for Christmas. Thanks for the idea.

Tombstone Livestock - I think you should go for that duct tape apron. Might be a good idea!

Jane - You are too kind. And also too funny about Papa Pea's ulterior motives! The apron I made a couple of years ago had a big bow tie to fasten it at the back. It was at about my shoulder blade level so I couldn't tie it. Do you know Papa Pea could. not. tie. it? You would think anyone who could tie a shoe could muckle a bow at the back of an apron, but he couldn't do it.

judy - I DO have some extra material left . . . :o}

Judy - Thank you very much, but I just know all the rest will put mine to shame including the one YOU made, Fancy Lady!

Sue - Sue? Stop looking at my butt.

Nancy - Did I lose weight from standing in the corner? No, but if that would work, I'd spend an hour a day there!

odiie - Let's do it! Let's all gift everyone with aprons for Christmas! We'll be doing everyone a favor and keeping laundry loads lighter. I remember my grandma telling me she could wear a dress three or four times because of keeping it "clean" with her full-length apron!

Fabulous! Love the fabric too. Now that is an apron and you do look skinny in it. What more could one want from an apron?

Wow, something for the kitchen that makes you look thinner! That has to be a first. Everything in my kitchen adds poundage. A question: why is there such a thing as a half apron? There are some really cute ones out there. Maybe they work for people who aren't so messy but I need the full frontal coverage. And I hate when I have forgotten that I don't have an apron on and wipe my hands down my pant legs. Argh!

Oh I love it! I actually thought it was permanently sewn together in the back and just flipped over the head - I think I want to make one like yours next! I'm finally done with mine, but it will have to wait to post tomorrow night probably, as I'm so tired now LOL! Finn says my apron looks like i'm getting x-rays at the dentist office :)

Hi Judy!
This is Leah--your sis-in-law--just wanted to tell you your blog here said exactly what I was thinking when I saw the apron-----that's what I need--an apron that comes up to my chin and covers ALL the chest!! Of course, I have several more square inches of chest to cover. Maybe some stretchy material in the center would help. And yes, I agree with Roy, wish I had a tiny little butt like you have!

Have a nice Thanksgiving!!

Sparkless - That cinches it! I'm wearing it forever now.

Karen L. - I get most of my stains and splatters on my top half so a half apron wouldn't do me much good. And what are those gauzy, frilly, lacy half aprons for anyway? They always look like something that would be a fire hazard around an open flame.

Erin - I had a good guffaw at Finn's description of your apron! What kids don't think of.

I never thought of slipping my apron on and off over the head. It might be a smidge tight though and muss the coiffure!

Can't wait to see your apron tomorrow!

Leah - Well, SIL, you gave me a good chuckle with your comment. I think any apron should cover a lotta acreage to do any good!

Happy Thanksgiving to you both, too!

Great apron! And that Papa Pea, what a guy .:) I think it turned out nicely and you should parade around in it all day!

You know, we're all going to want that apron pattern now...who COULDN'T use a slimming apron during the Holidays?!

I wish I had picked one like yours...the one I made (and am still working on, curse you Susan!) does cover a lot of real estate, but man, is it RUFFLY!!

Well, I'm almost sorry I didn't participate in the apron-a-long. Then I remind myself that the sewing machine is broke, my sewing stuff is packed away, I'd feel guilty if I wasn't working on the kitchen, you get the idea. Still I love aprons. You chose a great fabric and a great pattern. Well done.

I almost missed your apron reveal -- stupid blogger is telling me I'm not following any blogs Grrrrrr.
I love how it's just a snap at the neck. Hhmmmm...I should hav made one that was "thinning". Love the material pattern too!

That is a very cute apron (no comment on your butt!) Can't wait to see how all the other aprons turned out.

Confession: I have only worn my apron once, for the photo!

Mama Pea said...

Mama Tea - Okay, we've seen the apron your son made for you. Now where's the one you made?? Hmmm?

Carolyn Renee - I know well from experience that one thing that takes A LOT of time is (are?) ruffles! (Let alone lots of fabric.) I'm sure it will be thing of beauty when you're done!

Leigh - Thanks, Leigh. When we're in the middle of something like home building or a remodel, it seems like we'll never have the time (and energy) to do things like knit, sew, paint, weave . . . all those personally rewarding things that go by the wayside because of THE BIG PROJECT! Ugh.

dr momi - Can't say I believe my apron is really "thinning." It just covers up a lot with straight lines!

Jen - I think wearing an apron regularly is a habit you have to get into. We may have to form a support group to that end.

Lovely, Mama Pea! Oh, this is so much fun! The fabric you chose is beautiful, too.

I hope you know I was joshing-I don't have a sewing machine anymore-I would definitely have to use duck tape ,funeral,Thanksgiving [ one of these years I'm gonna go to McDonalds for dinner if one of my kids doesn't learn to cook.]I just want to put my feet up! have a wonderful holiday

Mama Pea said...

Patty - Thank you! I still think the fabric would have made nice pillowcases! Can't wait to see all the aprons tomorrow.

judy - Of course I know you were kidding. Your sense of humor is one of your greatest assets. I hope you do find some time to take a little time for yourself in this coming week. Sending a big hug!

Had to come back to this post to ask you about pillowcases since you mentioned that the apron fabric was suppose to be for that purpose. Wondered if you make the easy tube type cases? I make these for my two grandsons in FL as a way of staying in touch. They are so easy and finish off the seams nicely. You can go here to see the video if interested (unless of course you already know about this):

Ha! A Magic Apron - good stuff.

Mama Pea said...

Karen L. - Thanks much! I will go check out the video.

LindaCO - Hey, do you think I could market it as such??

Candy C. said...

I love that pattern and your material! What a great style!
I think you could market it as a "Magic" apron! ;-)

Mama Pea said...

Candy C. - Hey, thanks so much. Wasn't this just the best project we all participated in? A whole heckuva lot of fun!

Hi Mama Pea ~ Love your apron and love the fabric you chose! I'm with the consensus here that it compliments you well. And isn't it funny how something as 'simple' as a new pretty apron can make us feel re-energized?! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

Mama Pea said...

Lisa - Now if I can just get into the habit of actually wearing the apron when I'm working in the kitchen . . . if so, I'm going to have to make a couple more!
