Some Days Just Go Better Than Other Days

Yesterday was a rough one. One step forward, two steps back. Not complaining though. (Well, maybe a little.) We still did make some progress . . . but it felt like piddling little.

The kitchen is now torn apart more than ever and I'm losing all sense of semblance of order in there. Whenever I try to do anything in the kitchen, I must look a tad demented as I turn slowly in a circle three times before heading in the direction of what I need. Only to discover that's not where it is . . . but, okay, where the heck is it?

Last night when Papa Pea went into the bedroom to get his jammies before showering, he commented we had a bit of a problem. Nah, nothing serious. He was just referring to everything piled on our king-sized bed including cabinet drawers and a double layer of miscellaneous other stuff.

Yesterday was extremely hot and humid which meant the early morning application of mud on the sheet rock patching didn't dry. Kinda unbelievable, but it did not dry all day. We were counting on me being able to paint the walls but can't do that until the sheet rocking is completely done, of course.

I painted the perimeter of the ceiling after taping the walls to get a nice sharp line. Got about one-fourth of the way around when we decided the paint I had chosen had way too much of a shine to it. We dubbed it glow-in-the-dark white. I had to stop and go purchase more paint. (At the hardware store, there were 3 [three!] people in line ahead of me waiting to get paint mixed. Have I ever mentioned patience is not one of my virtues?)

Papa Pea needed to finish the ceiling with a roller but he got involved in the laborious task of sinking screws that were protruding above floor level in preparation for laying tile which we had hoped would happen today, but won't. This meant covering every inch of the floor on hands and knees, taking out the offending screws and sinking new screws in the hole. He didn't start on the ceiling painting until late in the afternoon as natural light disappeared prior to a thunderstorm. Then he found that because of painting white on white, he simply couldn't see well enough to do a decent job.

I decided to take down my painting tape rather than leaving it up all night. The first thing I did was climb too high on the ladder and put the whole top of my head into a part of the freshly painted ceiling. Very wet, very messy, very stoopid. Then when I removed the tape, it pulled off the existing wall paint in about 50% of the places it touched. At least it was just the paint and not the paper covering of the old dry wall. I hope.

There was more, but it's not good to dwell on the less than pleasant. Today is a new day and better weather is forecast so we'll go eat our Fruit Loops (not really) and get on with it. Wishing a good, good day for us here in The Land of Extreme Disorder and for all of you whatever you're about for the day!

Aw, MamaPea. I'm sure you looked good with the top half of your head all painted up.

I grew up in a construction working family and continue to occasionally do work in that field (not including normal house repairs and remodels of our own). It is ALWAYS amazing to me how the TIMING of everything can trip you up. One day of things not drying and everything is thrown off. I'm sending great vibes of patience to you. And hoping you know if I wasn't so many hours away, we'd be there in a jiffy to help!

I had to giggle when you said the bed was full of everything. Isn't that the way it always goes? Ready to crawl in, exhausted from the work and stress of the day...and then, oh yeah. THAT'S where we piled everything...

((hugs)) to you...

I see you are deep into my least favorite part of remodeling! We had bare sheetrocked walls for 6 months because I just couldn't bear the thought of the spray texture gun and the subsequent painting LOL!

Oh, what a day! Doing our sons room, it has taken us almost a week just to prep the walls in this old house. They were a mess. I feel your pain. Yes, today is a new day, sure hope it is a better one!

Hi Mama Pea!
Living through a large remodel job like yours is tough even when someone else is doing the work...not to mention doing the work yourselves! I am so impressed with what ya'll are doing. I wish I had your energy! BTW...I used to use simple masking tape in my paint jobs until noticed the paint would sometimes 'drip' under or pull off or whatever...I've switched to a painter's tape now. It's more expensive but produces a more uniform product. Good Luck! and Hang in there...ya'll are doing great!

I see we both had the same kind of day yesterday. Yes, here's hoping today is a much better one and I can get my phone fixed. I don't have any hope the digging will end next door so I just won't think about it anymore.

On days like that, I would just go crawl under the sheets and stay there until the evil went away. But you can't even crawl under your sheets without moving piles! I don't know how you can stand it. I would be head-to-toe hives by now.

Sending you some "Good Workday" vibes. Hopefully that will change your aura for today! Good luck, and try to de-stress as much as possible.

Hey, people spend big money to get their hair frosted. You just found a better and more frugal way to do it.

Well shoot! Sometimes these funks last longer than we like. And I think it's just in the air. I hope you are having a better day and that you got all that paint out of your hair :0}

This reminds me of a long,long stupid while ago, when I was in the midst of a whole house remodel. We had ONE outlet in the kitchen that worked, and my then husband--know henceforth as JACKASS-insisted on full meals because he had to go to work at the end of the day. I would be on my knees with an electric mixer whipping potatoes.....and dishes were done in the tub. I cried for hours AFTER he left in the evening, swearing I would NEVER do this again. But I did-years later , with a different husband, and that made all the difference in the world. We got through it--but there was no mashed potatoes during THAT remodel. And I'm KEEPING this one!
You and Papa Pea shall make it through this and have a few laughs later on when it's all done.
Especially about your hair.
Sorry.
Couldn't resist!

Mama Tea - I think your vibes of patience must have reached me 'cause today went much better than yesterday. Thanks, you little sweetie, for saying you'd be willing to help. I have no doubt about that!

One time when I was glad I looked like an old washer woman . . . last night when I stuck my head on the ceiling wet paint. I had a scarf over my hair as usual! I think the scarf's done for though. ;o}

Erin - Love the look of sheet rock when it's done. Hate doing it!

Lorie - Sure hope you had a better day, too!

judy - Oh, we'll be cruising alright . . . in our canoe!

Lisa - Thanks for the encouraging words! I've tried all kinds of tapes, too, including the blue painters' tape. That one didn't work for me either, but maybe it was old or something.

Sparkless - Sometimes not obsessing about problems (people?) you can't do anything about is the best route to go!

Susan - No hives . . . but I think I might be getting a tic. Tic. Tic. Tic. Tic.

Lori - I did a lot of polying outside today with a good audio tape so that made me calm down quite a bit. It helps to "lose" yourself and forget about what's going on around you if even for only a couple/few hours.

Jane - It would/could have been sooo much worse if I hadn't had a scarf over my hair!

APG - Hair saved . . . but scarf's not lookin' so good. ;o}

Sue - Doing it with a person with a good outlook and personality makes it a whole different ball game, doesn't it! Glad you got rid of the jackass and are so happy now. :o}

Erin - I guess it sometimes takes a little practice in a lot of things before we get it right!
