Weekly Weigh-In

Well, if hubby and my combined weight loss for the last 7 weeks were that of one person, it would be fairly impressive!

But since we are two people, I don't think the pounds that each of us has lost is anything to write home about.

Yay, yay! This morning, the scale showed I was FINALLY able to get out of my two week slump of losing zero pounds, nada, zip, nothing for the previous two weeks. Halleluja, I finally lost 2 more pounds last week which gives me a grand total of 8 pounds lost in seven weeks.

Boo, boo! Hubby didn't do as well and gained one pound last week which brought his total weight loss so far down from 9 to 8 pounds.

So as I say, if it had been only one of us losing 16 pounds in 7 weeks . . . good job! But (sigh) to stay optimistic, we have both lost 8 pounds. Not gained any weight in the 7 week period, but rather are each 8 pounds lighter than when we started.

Admittedly, I'd sure like to see it come off a little faster but I'm trying not to be my usual impatient self. And I am very happy to report that my pants continue to feel a little looser again this week so something is shifting around to a better spot. (Geesh, I hope it's not going to my ankles . . . or elbows . . . or other weird area.)

Yay!! You're losing and that's what matters even if it's not as much as you want. Just hang in there.

Your doing great... Remember that scale might not tell the truth...(sometimes it lies...LOL!) If you clothes fit differently then your doing a good job. I didn't see any results in almost 3 weeks but my clothes sure fit different.

I think what you're experiencing is a healthy weight loss, meaning it will probably stay off, even with minor slip-ups. A fast weight loss usually means drastic cuts to diet that aren't good for our bodies. Congrats! Enjoy the looser clothes.

That's wonderful, steady progress. Yeah for you!

I think that is amazing progress. As we age our metabolism slows down and makes it even harder to lose weight and keep it off. If you are losing and not starving yourself then you are doing fantastic!

Honestly, don't be too hard on yourself - at least it's a slow and steady pace. I think you will find that your metabolism will change a bit with the change of seasons and warm weather activity. Remember, more daylight = longer periods of activity, chores, etc!

Hey, Guys! Thank you all for continuing to support me and keep me enthused about losing the weight. Your reminders that metabolism slows down as we age (does it ever!) and that this is not a very "active" time of year make me hopeful for seeing more pounds drop in the future. I'm certainly not starving myself by any means but fall into periods of deprivation missing toast, ice cream, potato chips, sandwiches, wine. Poor me, huh? Snap out of it, Mama Pea! I like loose pants more than that stuff I don't need. Well, maybe 'cept for a sandwich. I loves me a good sandwich! ;o)

Mama Pea, lets review. Healthy weight loss = 1 pound a week. Anymore than that is usually water and muscle which is what keeps the metabolism humming. So if you lose 5 pounds a week you may actually slow your metabolism down in the long run. So doing the math 8 pounds in 7 weeks is STILL ahead of schedule. Not all things that come quickly are good. Would you like to age 10 years in one year? You are doing great, so start patting yourself on the back.

Jane - I was hoping you'd jump in to yank my chain! :o) Really? Only one pound a week is considered a "good" weight loss? I had always heard 2 pounds a week which is kinda what I've been looking for but not getting. Would I like to age 10 years in one year? Heck, no. But do I have the option of looking 10 years younger in one year?? ;o)

Keep on me, Jane. I respect your opinions/thoughts and need the reinforcement in the form of being hit over the head now and then. (I've never responded well to subtlety.)

Eight pounds is nothing to sneeze at. The most important part is that you are feeling thinner. It is always better to lose weight slowly, even though it drives you crazy.

I think you and hubby are doing great,I wish I had lost 8 pounds. Got to start trying. Good job! Blessings jane

Susan - I do think I put this weight on a lot faster than I'm losing it! Does this just show that we pay for our sins? Thanks for your encouragement.

Jane2 - Sometimes just starting is the hardest part. You know if you decide to do it, there are a lot of us out here that will support you.

Oh, I am so impressed with your will power!! Keep up the great work. And just think, gardening season is almost here. Then you can be outside working off the calories instead of inside.

Lori - Thanks for your encouragement. The thought of summer and wanting to be out in shorts and tank top (rather than four layers of flannel and polar fleece) is keeping me going! It's hard to hide extra weight in the summer. ;o)
