Like Grains of Sand

All summer I've felt as if time has been slipping through my hands like grains of sand. Am I trying to do too much? Do I need to step back and re-prioritize my life? Is time actually going faster? Yes, yes, and well . . . it sure seems like it.

I've always been more comfortable with routine in my life. It tends to keep me on the straight and narrow, on top of things, able to accomplish more. Some might call it plodding along in a rut, but it works for me. I don't like surprises; throw a surprise birthday party for me and I might never speak to you again.

Although I wouldn't have traded the recent hub-bub of our family's visit over the last of August and first of September for all the green (antioxidant) tea in China, I COMPLETELY spaced out all of the things I normally tend to on the first of every month. (I'm almost afraid to check but am sincerely hoping the various neglected banking responsibilities haven't caused any real problems!)

One of the other things forgotten was the picture update of my garden on September 1st and comparison with those of June, July, and August 1st.

How soon will those pictures get taken and posted? I dunno, but I'll get them up here as soon as I can. I have a feeling they are gonna be dramatic as the garden started looking spent, depleted and totally beat-up a couple of weeks ago. Now with our drop in temperature and strong winds, it ain't summer anymore. We have moved on into autumn!

Must be in the water, so they say!

I am glad to hear you hate surprises too, I feel the same way! Why is that??? I think we might be freakish.

If you had a bunch of time on your hands, I might think that you were doing something wrong :)

That happens to me every time we go on a vacation or camping, I come home and find I have "forgotten" to do some pretty important stuff - maybe secretly I was hoping we wouldn't come back!

Apple Pie Gal - Does it indicate we need to be in control? Hmmm . . .

jane - No, I'd just be sleeping or reading. (Dang, that sounds appealing!)

Erin - No matter if you didn't come back. Those "important" things have a way of finding you. ;o)

Good post. I am the exact same way. I've found our first year fairly frustrating because we don't have any routines established yet. Hopefully next year will be better.

Leigh - You have gotten SO MUCH accomplished this first year. You've done so many new things, added new animals to your homestead, done so much on your house. Next year will feel all the better in many ways . . . not so many "firsts." We're still changing things even after all the years we've been at it. I think changing is a sign of growing and learning. At least I hope it is! :o)
