I did have a moment this morning when I first looked at our thermometer and thought it was giving a faulty reading. Twenty-eight degrees! ABOVE zero. Wahoo, we haven't seen it that warm since . . . since . . . since I can't remember when.
How-EV-vah, with a forecast for a wintry mix today with freezing rain, snow and sleet, it's hard to get too, too excited. We may hit 31°, so say the predictors of all things weather-ish. And Sunday and Monday it could get a couple of degrees above freezing! (Then back down into the twenties, but anything above a below zero reading now is balmy and time to peel off the long johns.)
See my pumpkin patch? No?
It's right other side of that 6'+ tall pile of snow,
I promise you it really is.
Only 1/2" of snow so far this month. March is traditionally our snowiest month, but perhaps that isn't going to be the case this year. Which would be fine with us. Truly.
This shot was taken out of one of my
kitchen windows this morning.
That's a snowbank up against the house
with three maple tree branches
sticking out of it.
Thanks for sharing your part of world - so amazing how much snow you have. I feel guilty that we are expecting to hit 60 this weekend - I will be out with Roundup hitting the weeds which have sprouted with a vengeance because of our odd weather. It will be a short lived warm up and we hope for more moisture to help alleviate the drought situation we are in.
ReplyDelete2 Tramps - If only there were a way to funnel some of our snow melt your way! We will have PLENTY of moisture this spring, that's for sure.
DeleteI am glad to see it in the upper 20s myself. Just hope it doesn't get to the freezing rain stuff. Don't need that right now. I could handle it whether I liked it or not. But, our deer herd sure doesn't need this snow to crust at this depth right now.......
ReplyDeleteFoxyLady - Yes, getting through spring withOUT a crust on top of all the snow is what is needed for the deer. Sure hope it goes that way.
DeleteI won't tell you we are having beautiful spring weather and the robins are out chirping. Nope, I won't tell you that our snow is almost gone and the grass is looking green. I will say that I hope you get some warm spring weather soon.
ReplyDeleteSparkless - Boy, I'm sure glad you didn't tell me all that! ;o)
DeleteWe are having the opposite problem. No snow or real rain this year . We have had a ever warm winter ,not good for our water supply.
ReplyDeleteMichelle - That's not good. We've gone into many springs here in northern MN with little to no snow which has caused a lot of fire danger. Glad we're not facing that this year.
DeleteI am in the same boat as Michelle, which is gonna be high and dry soon! I feel for you, but the upcoming summer is gonna be a rough one!
ReplyDeleteRuth - Drat! Not good. In drought conditions such as you're having, it's almost impossible to keep gardens and crops going. Hope things will turn and you get adequate rain.
DeleteHi Mama Pea---I"M BACK!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the shots---we're buried too. But yesterday hit a GLORIOUS 42 and hubby and I spent the entire day outside. Isn't it funny how that can feel like a 60 degree day when you've been below freezing for 90+ days??
I even filled a couple of pots with potting mix and sowed salad and spinach. Spring has definitely sprung (despite snow depths taller than the yard hydrant!)
Happy Spring
(and I say to the snow--Melt, Dammit!)
:D
Sue - Heck, when it gets above zero in these here parts, it feels really warm. Today we have 21° as we speak and bright sunshine. I have the front door propped open!
DeleteP.S. I do think you are in more of a Zone 4-1/2 than straight 4 as we are! No fair.
So, did you break out the shorts and the flip-flops with that heat wave? ;)
ReplyDeleteI am glad you guys have warmed up a bit, let's hope it holds!!
Candy C. - The only way I could have worn shorts and flip-flops is if I left my long underwear on under the shorts! Today we have actually hit 32° but it's hard to see any melting because of the no sun/gray day. But spring IS coming!
DeleteBRRRRRR that snow looks cold ..... daffys are thru blooming and foxgloves are starting flower spikes .... another baby goat yesterday, shearer coming in 2 weeks, then Shetlands will be lambing .... weather is in the high 70's, I guess since I have learned to live with the 100+ summers I know I could not deal with being snowbound in the winters.
ReplyDeleteTombstone Livestock - All I can say to you, young lady, is enjoy your days in the 70s 'cause you knooooowwww those 100+ days are comin'! ;o}
DeleteI am SO glad you are warming up! Maybe this is the back side of winter saying good bye for good. Sure hope so, you have had a rough one for sure. Pretty soon you will be posting pictures of robins feasting in your yard, and flowers blooming!

Stephanie - Believe it or not, we made it up to 50° today in the shade. Must have been at least 60° out in the sun. Boy, did it feel good. Not quite shorts and flip-flops weather yet, but better than readings below zero! :o}
DeleteHang in there....Spring WILL come. You should be using this time to rest up, because I know you'll be going full bore the moment that snow melts!
ReplyDeleteAshling - I like your suggestion! This is about the first time I sat down today and I feel like a nap coming on. It's either that, or get up and move before rigor mortis (!) sets in!
