Yup . . . More Snow

Talk about a tenacious winter!  I wonder if all this white stuff so late in the season will put a crimp on the breeding plan of mosquitoes and biting flies?  If so, that might make all this worth it.

Farther south of us (yes, south of us as that's where most of the snow has fallen this year), about ten inches of snow came down yesterday.  Our snow didn't start until the wee hours this morning and (so far) our accumulation is only about 3".

And wouldn't ya know, we saw our first robin of the season out on the bird feeder while we were eating breakfast this morning.  The same robin is no doubt contacting his travel agent right now trying to book a flight to an area with green grass and worms.

I just hate it when I get ice balls between my toes, don't you?  (You can see by this picture that the flakes are still coming down.)

Good day to bake bread.  Or quilt.  Good day to clean my closet and under the bed.  Or quilt.  Good day to wash the kitchen floor.  Or quilt.  Good day to get caught up on desk work.  Or quilt.  Okay, I'll quilt.

  1. Whew! 'Just got back from traveling the Plains states and having to stay one step ahead to navigate huge snow storms. 'Good to be home and up north-where the weather is, at least, reasonably predictable in April! Now I'd better bring up an extra cart of birch in preparation for the upcoming weekend storm. Home sweet home! Keep warm, Mr and Mrs Pea and may you enjoy a cozy time quilting!-M

  2. If it makes a serious dent in the tick population, I will be really happy. :)

    1. Foxy Lady - Heck, if the tick population could be weakened, I'd take snow right up until Memorial Day Weekend. (Perhaps I shouldn't have said that out loud, eh?)

    1. DFW - Oh, what a good idea! Except Papa Pea just said no more wood in the wood stove in the living room where the couch is. It's getting too warm in here. Our temp is hanging around 30 so it's not hard to keep the house warm.

  4. Way to look at the bright side - that would be GREAT if it put a damper on the blackflies and skeeters! Here I thought maybe Tucker was digging to a warmer climate :)

    1. Erin - Tucker got his exercise this morning. He went on a trek around the whole loop trail. Do you realize how hard those little stubs of legs of his have to work to travel that far? He is now completely zonked out and I keep checking to see if he's still breathing. (He is.)

  5. Quilting works for me. I also use days like this for reading and needle work. Yarn in my hand, a good classic movie, and I am set.

    1. Michelle - I have trouble watching a movie and doing any handwork. (Does this mean I'm narrow-minded?) I can do handwork and listen to an audio book (and often do) but watching a movie at the same time seems to be too much for my remaining brain cells!

  6. Seems like you have a good dose of positive attitude and a GREAT day to quilt! I vote for quilting.

I absolutely cannot believe your photos! Well, I mean I do believe you.... but wow! I just took photos of our dogwood tree blooms. Hey, I like the idea of no stingy bugs though.

Hope you are having a good day at your sewing machine!

    1. Lisa - What a difference 1,000 miles can make, huh? ;o] I am just now (2:40 p.m.) going to go into my quilt room. Had some stuff that had to be done this morning (dratted must do stuff!) and just put a loaf of Very Lemon Bread in the oven for our daughter. She has been a HUGE help to us in ordering our new computers so I'm being extra nice to her. (Also using the bread as a bribe 'cause I know we'll need her help in getting the computers set up when they actually arrive.)

The snow is still coming down but the temp is 31 degrees so some of it is melting. We have probably about 4" piled up now. And it's VERY slippery out there!

  7. You can't fight the weather you can only endure it. I can't believe how much snow you've have in the last month or so. I hope the snow kills off most of your biting bugs and melts quickly so that you can finally have some spring. Maybe you are just going to miss spring entirely and jump straight into summer?

  8. Sparkless - It's not unusual for us to skip a spring season and go straight from winter one day to summer the next. I think if I could change one thing about our climate up here in northern Minnesota it would be to have a real spring season. We miss out on a lot of spring flowers and pleasant, not-too-hot weather most years. But we choose to live here, so I'll not complain. (Too much or too often!) ;o]

  9. At some point you just have to laugh. when we woke up yesterday to what looked like a blizzard, I figured I could either laugh...or cry. And as the snow came down more...and more...and more, I chose to laugh. Oh, and have a glass of wine. Tell your robin friend that the snow CAN'T last forever and that she should stay!!

    1. Amy - I think you got way more snow than we did, didn't you? I say we should just enjoy these last ditch snows. Soon (really, it WILL happen) we'll be sweltering and drinking iced tea and coffee. (And cold wine, of course.)

  10. Send the robin our way. We have lots of wet mud for foraging and nest-building is in full swing!

  13. Eek :/ Although I must say, it will be great for your water levels come August. Hope you got some of that quilting done :) Stay warm

    1. Stephanie - This is so much better than going into a dry spring with the threat of forest fires, so you won't hear me complaining of the moisture content.

A friend called this morning to give me a hard time asking if I had anything planted in the garden yet. Right. Some crops are cold hardy, but the snow cover (with more expected tomorrow and Monday) is a bit too much just now!
