I am an introvert of the first order. As a child I was painfully shy. I've gotten a little better with age.
I wish I didn't require so much sleep. But I have since I was small and no matter how hard I try, I don't feel well if I skimp on the hours I get.
I lost my best friend from high school when we were twenty. She dated a guy who treated her like scum, I tried to tell her so, she told him what I said, he told her to choose between us. He won.
I can totally see myself having a career as a forensic sculptor.
In school, I loved algebra, hated geometry.
I sincerely believe I have some kind of a short circuit in my brain that makes it impossible for me to understand the workings of computers.
I always thought I would have many children.
I hate science fiction movies or books.
I love the looks, feel, styles, furniture, houses of the 1940s.
When I was about eight, a man tried to abduct me by talking me into getting into his car.
If I lived alone, I would have the worst nutritional diet. I'd live on potato chips and orange juice.
My favorite movie of all time is "Dirty Dancing." It's the only movie I've ever watched more than once.
If I could somehow evade all guilt, I would be the laziest person on the planet.
I can totally see myself having a career as a cook for a wealthy family.
If I were rich, I would be a very generous, kind, GOOD, rich person.
Although I've always been very athletic, have good balance, and control of my body when doing physical things, I cannot dance worth a lick. At all. Just cannot get my body to move with music. Period.
In my next life, I'm going to be an Olympic downhill skier.
I love these posts :)! How funny is it that I was the same way with math, loved algebra, trig, calc, HATED geometry..... and we are QUILTING? LOL! I can't believe you about those potato chips, nope, don't believe it - don't you know I wished I ate as healthy as you? Now you say this.... !
ReplyDeleteWhen sending your resume to the wealthy family to be their cook, I would not include the potato chip and OJ thing. That may not be the selling point of your skills :)
ReplyDeleteI am an introvert but love people who I am comfortable with. As a child I was painfully shy.
ReplyDeleteI don't need much sleep for several day but I eventually have to catch up.
I lost my best friend in high school. She was involved in a car accident with a horse and was killed.
My career seems to have to do with children although I would not have chosen that given a choice.
In school, I loved algebra but couldn't see when I would ever use it(I never did).
I understand computers fairly well and am learning more all the time.
I always thought I would have many children. I have three.
I like science fiction if it involves the end of the world and new beginnings.
I love 1800's furniture and houses etc.
When I was about 9....no, we better not go there.
If I lived alone, I would eat more seasonally, never have directv and never use so much electicity.
If I were rich, I would never give to a charity. I would give to real people with real problems.
My favorite movie of all times...well I like a lot of them but specifically THE LAKEHOUSE- other than that: The Village, The Patriot, The Postman, Dances With Wolves, The Color Purple, The Notebook, Phenomenom. I am sure there are more but I can't think of them.
I have never been athletic as far as sports go but I have always been athletic. I cannot dance a lick either.
In my next life, well...I am not sure that we can determine that now. ..
I'm not buying the lazy part. You get more done in a day than I do in a week! So that would make me....a zombie? LOL!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the sleep thing. I need my 8-9 hours or I'm just not right.
Erin - Don't I wish Mr. Roberts (geometry teacher) could see me whomping out those equalateral triangles and hexagons in my quilt studio. Blankety-blank old man gave me the only C I ever got!
ReplyDeleteNutritionally speaking, I guess we've all got our weak spots, and that's why I can't keep potato chips in the house.
Jane - I suddenly have this picture of my frazzled self sitting on a stool in a mansion's kitchen stuffing potato chips in my mouth as fast as I can right after I've sent a five course gourmet meal out into the family dining room.
becky3086 - Isn't it amazing how we can relate to almost anything someone else has to say? I find that so interesting.
Sparkless - "I need my 8-9 hours or I'M JUST NOT RIGHT." That's what I'm gonna use from now on! Instead of lamenting that I'm tired, I'm gonna say I'm just not right. And that's how I feel when I try to be like people who get by perfectly well on 6 hours of sleep!
ReplyDeleteWe have a lot of things in common. However, I have no idea what forensic sculptor is. LOL
ReplyDeleteyummmmm potato chips! Plain are great but I also can enjoy them with french onion or ranch chip dips but what about chips and Dove dark chocolate - woa!
ReplyDeletemeemsnyc - A forensic sculptor can create a clay replica (also using other materials) of a human head working with only the skull. Most of the work is in the criminal field, but what fascinates me is work done on really old skulls of prehistoric/ancient man.
ReplyDeletecmarie - You can have all the Dove dark chocolate. It's the salty, crunch that I crave!
This was fun to read! It's amazing what you find in common with people. I have to have 8 hours regularly, if I skimp I'm toast!
ReplyDeleteRuth - I'm so happy to find there are others out there who NEED 8-9 hours of sleep a night. I've always felt like such a sluggard spending so much time sleeping when there are so many other more interesting things I could be doing with my time! Can we form a support group?
ReplyDeleteA forensic sculptor? Interesting.
ReplyDeleteLeigh - Do you think we need to call Dr. Freud in on that one?
ReplyDeleteLove it. LOVE IT! thanks for doing this today! Love getting to know you in these short little tidbits!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'll have you know, I hated any math I learned after 6th grade. I envy your love of algebra.
I used to be so shy... when I was in high school, I wanted to work at one of the fire lookouts on top of a mountain so that I wouldn't have to be with people. I even went so far as writing to the forest service to see how I could make that happen. Now, I work with severely handicapped high school kids. I love them. Thanks for sharing.

Mama Tea - I'm sure my love of algebra had a lot to do with my teacher. He was a gentle, soft-spoken, patient man who took time for each student and never made anyone feel "dumb." Bless good teachers!!
ReplyDeleteLori - Bless you for the work you do with your kids. It's a gift to do what you do.
I had fun with both algebra and geometry! I've watched Dirty Dancing many, many times and I have the sound track from the it too!!
ReplyDeleteYou mentioned potato chips ... you made me go dig out the Doritos!
Yup 8-9 hours needed here too. Whatever happened to the days when I could do 5-6 hrs and feel like a million??
Lots to think over in your post ...
Hugs
Yvette
I'm an introvert, that loves chatting-but it has to be on MY time. I guess that's why I love blogs so much. I do it when I'm in the mood. Which is usually at 3 am.
ReplyDeleteI'm incredibly shy and come off as a bi#$%-but it's just shyness. If I feel comfortable--I'll talk your head off!!!
I do my best on 5 hours of sleep.
And if there wasn't a price to pay-I would live on a diet of Ben and Jerry's New York Super Fudge ice cream and pizza. Lordy, I'd be FAT AS A HOUSE!
I really enjoyed this post-what a great way to reassure that this is a group of ladies I truly enjoy reading!!!
Yvette - Yup, I have the sound track from "Dirty Dancing" also. I'm sure my hubby is MIGHTY tired of hearing it! Sorry I brought on an attack of the munchies for you. ;o)
ReplyDeleteSue - You do your best on five hours of sleep? Oh, please, can I have some of what you're taking??
I used to think being an introvert was a bad thing. But then I read that the definition of an extrovert is someone who gets recharged, revitalized, re-energized by being WITH other people; an introvert is someone who gets the same from being alone. So what's so wrong with that??
Wow. How amazing it is to compare these little nuggets of information with how we perceive each other through our blogs. I would have figured you as shy, but never, ever lazy. And I am secretly (not now!) thrilled that you and so many of us have potato chip weaknesses! The forensic sculptor completely threw me, though.
ReplyDeleteSusan - Being a forensic sculptor would be so much up my alley. You work in a studio/lab (mine would be set up in my home . . . I even can envision what it would look like down to the views out the windows), you work alone (which I'm most comfortable with), I'm a perfectionist, I'm creative, you have a "product" to show at the end of a day's work (which I need) and it would pay one heckuva lot more than any other creative type work I've ever done! HA!
ReplyDeleteAnd oh yeah, HOORAY FOR POTATO CHIP LOVERS!
This was fun! Thanks for sharing with us!
ReplyDeleteI used to be an extravert but the older I get the more that has changed. I'm good as an introvert :)
You hated geometry and loved algebra? ick
I think we are all wishing secretly that we could be lazy...
I am also an introvert,I also wanted lot's of kid's,I only had one. I never cared much for math of any kind. But do know that it is a necessary evil. Thanks for posting this . Blessings jane
ReplyDeleteAPG - Used to be an extrovert but now are changing into more of an introvert? Hmmmm . . . wonder if that has anything to do with maturity, coming into our own, getting to know ourselves and feeling more comfortable with ourselves? I know people who are extremely uncomfortable being alone. I think they either don't like themselves or are unwilling to learn who they truly are.
ReplyDeleteEver since I stated that about being a lazy person inside, I've been wondering just how I classify "lazy." Food for thought.
Jane2 - Math really is necessary, isn't it? When we learned long division in grade school, I had the chicken pox and two different bouts with measles. Because I missed a lot of school that year, that little procedure was a stumbling block for me for a long time. (I think I've got it now!)
Lazy, HA! Whatcha smokin' up in those woods? If that's lazy I'd love to see you "not being lazy"! You'd probably have quilted the driveway in the time it took to read this :)
ReplyDeleteErin - Ah, my little sweet, how very little you really know about me!
ReplyDeleteWhat is it with quilters hating geometry??? Maybe if they'd used quilting examples in their theorems??
ReplyDeleteI am also a potato chip lover - I never buy them because I can't resist.
Jen - What a FANTASTIC idea for teaching geometry! There's always a better way, isn't there? You're so smart! Too bad Mr. Roberts (old geometry teacher) is long gone now. You could teach him a thing or three.
