What We Do For Fun Around Here

Papa Pea was doing some (temporary) repair on a fence post a week or so ago.  He was finding it difficult to pull the steel post into position while using the small sledge hammer to pound it back into place.

So he called in the muscle to pull the post into place with a rope.

No further explanation necessary.

Added note:  This was a day before the onslaught of mosquitoes arrived.  Omigosh, are they horrible this year.  We literally cannot go outside to do chores, garden work or walk down the driveway to get the mail without dressing in full bug shirt garb.  Everyone is saying they can't remember the bugs being this bad.  The strange thing is that we haven't had a decent rain fall in weeks, and that's what usually brings out the first batch of the nasty little biters.  But they are here and blood-thirsty!

That is a great picture. Says a lot!
Rather the bugs than the smoke we are enduring. Try gardening in a bug suit and N-95 mask! At least it isn't hot, as the sun cannot make it through the smoke very well. My warm weather crops are shivering and pulling the mulch up around their ears.

Rosalea - I have heard that you are having awful air pollution from the smoke. Ugh. We, too, have not had super-warm temps yet, but gardening (or just moving) in our bug suits creates sweating. (Sweating is supposed to be good for a body, right?) Can't imagine adding a N-95 mask to everything else. :O(

Ha, ha, that looks like the kind of fun we have around here too! Great idea actually.

Ugh about the mosquitoes though. Maybe they're in a tizzy because of lack of rain. I've found that a few drops of peppermint essential oil in a carrier like olive or coconut oil does wonders repelling them.

Leigh - Makes one wonder how "single" homesteaders do it. Another pair of hands (or another body) sure does help at times!

Thanks for the tip regarding mosquito repellent. (We do stay away from commercial ones because of the harmful ingredients.) I'm especially bothered with mosquitoes, black flies or no see-ums as if there is one within a mile, they will seek me out and attack! :o(

Yes, mosquitos are bad here, too. As soon as I step out onto the back porch, they are swirling around me. I swear I live on benadryl! -Jenn

Jenn - What is it with those nasty things this year? Try as we might to be careful going in and out the house doors, we seem to have way too many in the house, too. Can't be helped, I suppose. :o(

You need some bats to eat those skeeters!

Anonymous - Yes! In past summers, we have seen bats flitting around the yard in the air 'round about dusk. We used to have a bat house mounted on the side of the house to encourage them. It got taken down when we resided that area. Hmmmm, wonder where it got put?
