We Got Snow, Ho-Ho-Ho!

Not a Christmas snow, but definitely a nice, mid-January snow.  Below pictures were taken when we were out doing chores this morning.

I made just a shovel's width test swath out onto the front deck to check the snow depth.  Looks like about 12" to me.

And that rings true by the topping on the bird feeder out front.

This was taken standing at our house's back entry looking to the right toward the wood sheds and storage building.  (I had already knocked the snow accumulation on that stump off.)

And then looking to the left toward the driveway out and away from the house.  (Still to be plowed.)

It's our biggest snowfall so far this winter.  Lots of shoveling, clearing and plowing to be done today.  Also lots of exercise in the clean, beautifully covered environment!

We're in the thick of it now, too. With lots of wind, we have drifting, too. Ahhh, January. -Jenn

Jenn - We were fortunate enough to escape the wind this time. Temps in high 20s/low 30s and, oh my, was the snow heavy! Stay safe and warm.

We're finally getting cold weather but no snow! Just lots of rain, but considering that an inch of rain is equivalent to 10 inches of snow, it's just as well!

My shoveling today keeps drifting over. I am defeated for now.

We got snow too, but not anywhere near as that much. Looks like a good load of "fertilizer."

Roads yesterday were NASTY here in western NY. Still snowing today and needs to be plowed, but today is "Stay in bed with Seed Catalogs Day". (I made that up.)

Leigh - Yes, I always think of the "1 inch of rain is equal to 10" of snow" when we get lots of rain in the summer time. Unless the rain reaches the disaster level, it's much easier to work around than a huge bunch of snow!

Phil - We can relate! By afternoon yesterday, both Papa Pea and I had to give it up for the day even though there was more to be done. Today is a new day and we'll hopefully get everything taken care of.

Kristina - With the weather you've been having this winter, your snow should be gone soon. But the moisture (fertilizer!) won't hurt the ground!

SmartAlex - Yikes! Today is "Stay in bed with Seed Catalogs Day?!" Why didn't anyone tell me??

We had a proper blizzard. There is a single car-width plowed through chest-high drifts to get into town. This is the first time I've been home since Friday and back to work this afternoon. Wind chills still at -26F. All around yuck.

Mama Pea said...

tpals - OMGosh! You couldn't even get home until today?? Now that is a real blizzard. Our inches have been upgraded to around 16" rather than the 12" I first thought. No snow over night, but the wind picked up and covered the front deck and walkways with about 3" of snow that was piled alongside. Methinks winter has arrived!

Well we were predicted to have snow yesterday, and we got nothing. But what we did get was to hear all about it coming for the whole week. It was a rain event. Sort of typical for my area.

It was lovely to get this snow, wasn't it??????? -smile-

We got no where near as much as you. But enough, to make my world look white again. Look like Winter, again. As it should look!

'Course we don't have to venture out, to clear anything. Micki came and plowed our driveway, before dawn. That is our entrance and exit, in winter. So no other paths to be done. So much easier on us.

But you two enjoy what you have to do, around your place! Doesn't make any of it, less work. But enjoying your life, makes it lovely.

Ho-Ho-Ho, is right!!!!!!!

What beautiful a winter wonderland! Couldn't you just share a couple of inches with us? Ha Ha! We are still waiting on just a dusting to pretty things up around the place!

Retired Knitter - We've had a lot of those "predicted" snowfalls this winter . . . that never appeared! I keep thinking with all the technology available to weather forecasters they should be able to be more accurate, but obviously not! At least you didn't have to shovel your rain!

wisps of words - I do think one of the main reasons I enjoy snow so much is the way it changes the landscape into something entirely different from other times of the year. (And, of course, covers up a few things that look better covered up!)

Nancy - Your snows don't stay and pile up like ours do, do they? Maybe that's the way to have them!

Lynne - Don't like wind! Any time of year. That's when winter is not nice . . . when those wind chills go way down, down, down!

Hill Top Post - Sending those couple of inches of snow to you tomorrow when I have to stop at the post office! ;o) It does clean up the landscape in mighty fine order!

Proper snow! We don't have any snow here, even though we are quite close to the mountains, but occasionally we have a dusting which disappears within hours. I like the magic of snow, so have enjoyed your photos.

Thanks, Vera. We're both snow lovers so would truly miss living in an area that didn't get snow. I love the sharp changes of seasons we get here in northern Minnesota and look forward to our "hibernating" season of winter. (Not that we ever get to sleep all winter as some of the native animals do!)

We got a sprinkling here, and that's all. When we left the mountains Sunday they were getting peppered so I hope they got several inches because the ski slopes need it--and the towns need the skiiers.

It's beautiful! The pattern on the snow in your first picture is unusual....looks like a waffle pattern. I sure miss a good snowstorm!

Mama Pea said...

Granny Sue - Yes, the winter recreational areas really suffer when Mother Nature doesn't provide enough snow. Here's hoping your mountain area is getting adequate snowfall.

Sam I Am - I would truly miss the dramatic changing of the seasons we get up here. I think it keeps us fresh and on our toes!
