Projects from My Quilt Room

Thanksgiving decorations are out and placed around the house.

Last year I made this table runner for the coffee table in our living room.

What?  You can't see any table runner?  Understandable, as this is what the top of our coffee table normally looks like.

See?  There really was a runner under there.

I really like this turkey themed fabric and have used it to make several fun things.

Today I finished another small one using the same fabric.

It's now on the top of a small bookcase in the kitchen holding (some of) my cook books.

Last year I made an almost identical one (but a little longer in length) that goes on the shelf of our kitchen island.  (You can see this one is about as visible as the one on the coffee table.)

Fall decorations and those at Thanksgiving time are my very favorite of the year.  Yep, I enjoy them even more than the Christmas decorations.

In anticipation of the days and days (I can only hope) I'll be spending in my quilt room this winter, I made these new mug rugs to place strategically around the room to hold the mug containing my morning Hot Buttered Rum latte when I start my day happily quilting.

I support the hot buttered rum! I envy those who can sew/quilt. That is a concept far beyond my capabilities. I cannot sew a button on but I still try! :) Love the runners and the mug rugs!

MrsDM - If I really did drink a hot buttered rum first thing in the morning, I'd be back in bed asleep lickety-split! Thanks for the nice words about my creations.

What? No basic sewing class in school? We could take either sewing or cooking, but not both. Which always struck me as wrong. Never had a class that taught anything about finances either. Sigh. Shouldn't basic living strategies be taught? One would think so . . . :o\

I love all of those. I love your cookbook shelf too. I wish I had more room in my kitchen.

Kristina - Thank you!

When we remodeled and added on to this place, I found I could have a large kitchen or a large living room, but not both. I chose the large kitchen!!

What a well-dressed house you have! it must make you feel happy to look around and see your lovely creations. I am SOOOOO glad you are spending time in your quilt room. It's about time!

Susan - Hygge! Hygge! Hygge! :o] And thank you for your nice words. And my thanks to Rain for defining the philosophy to me!

Oooh hot buttered rum latte! Love it!!! We had some Irish coffees last night, they are so hygge. :))

Your turkey fabric is great! I love it. You quilt so nicely Mama Pea. I'm glad you got to do something you really enjoy!

Rain - I should say that darn near everything I do on a day-to-day basis here on ye ol' homestead is something I want to do, choose to do . . . even things labeled as "work." But my creative side doesn't always get the fulfillment it needs at certain times of the year. That's probably the reason I love our long winters . . . when I can spend time quilting which I love doing.

Thank you for your kind words, my friend!

I like how you have different seasonal quilts and runners. Do you have a big quilting rack for full size quilts, or do you stick with smaller quilts? -Jenn

Mama Pea,
Beautiful table runner! I had to blow up the picture of your coffee table, it gorgeous. Did you make it to hold your quilts?

Only some cookbooks......😋....obviously you have an amazing collection, I'm just a tad jealous!!!

Thanksgiving and Christmas are my favorite holidays. The home cooked meals, handmade decorations, cooler weather, warm fire places/wood stoves, and family make it.

Winter will provide you with the time to spend in your quilt room.

Hugs, and love to you and your family.
Sandy

Thank you, Glenda! I'm so looking forward to lots (and lots) of time letting my creative juices flow this winter!

Jenn - If you check out my "coffee table" in the photos above, you'll see where I store my full-sized quilts. A dear friend (lady carpenter) made it for me for my birthday several years ago. Isn't it gorgeous? And perfect for storing my big quilts.

Sandy - Yes, a good friend made the coffee table from a design I gave her just to hold my big quilts. (And also function as a coffee table!) I commissioned her to make it for me and then she surprised me by giving it to me for my birthday! How's that for a good friend?!

Honestly, I have too many cook books, some of which I started collecting when first married, over fifty years ago. Time to go through them once again and weed some out. (So I have room for new ones!) ;o)

Sue - Thank you, thank you! Did you notice the skid mark on the bank where the duck on the right (standing on the ice) slid all the way down? That was so funny to see!

What a perfect post to accompany that snowy header photo. :) One of these days I'm going to be able to set writing aside and get out some fabrics, yarn, and needles once again!

Thanks, Leigh! I know your writing takes all your "free" time, but I'm looking forward to when you start creating your handwork items again. I know they'll be lovely.

I'm sorry to comment so late after this post, but was wondering about a plant in one of your pictures, the "joya" I think it's called. I have one too that is quite old, but has never bloomed. Has yours bloomed? Phil, Eagle Bend, MN

Mama Pea said...

Hello, Phil - I have had hoyas bloom for me in the past but this newer one (started from another plant) hasn't as of yet. I believe these plants need to be a bit "older" and root bound in their pots before they'll bloom. So maybe your old plant will surprise you one of these days and bloom! The one I had several years ago that bloomed the most spectacularly was hung on the trim of a west window, but not directly in front of the window.
