First Snow Cover - October 27, 2017

Leaving the feed room, going out for morning chores.

Sleep tight, little honey bees.

Still open water.

"I told you we should have put
the deck furniture away."

Frost snow on the pumpkins.

Our remaining six geese.   Three females, three males.
Now if they would just show signs
of choosing their
life-long partners . . .
(A round or two of The Dating Game,
anyone??)

Yep, that's what we had yesterday morning. This morning we just have cold winds and snow here and there. They are promising us more snow Saturday overnight into Sunday. Its too EARLY. I am not ready. Time for soups and stews!

Oh my gosh! Honestly, this is the first October we have NOT been blessed with snow yet! I feel lucky! :) It does look very beautiful though!

I bet those geese were confused to see that snow. Enjoy your quilt room!

Wow! That would stop me in my tracks... I am not far enough ahead in my winter prep to welcome snow!

It just seems so EARLY. You can tell I've been gone from MN for a looong time – 28 years!

Eek! I’m not ready! I live in Northern Virginia. We haven’t had a freeze yet. I’ve left one jalapeño plant in the garden hoping the remaining peppers will grow enough so I can make my sister a batch of jalapeño jelly at her request.

P.s. I love the picture of the window/door.

Living in middle NC, I can only imagine snow this early! Plus, we get so little, it stops us dead because we don't really have equipment to clear everything. I'd love snow for the holidays, though! Then, I want it gone! Right now I'm bringing plants in (in a short sleeve t-shirt!) because it'll be down to 33 this week. Leaves are still falling here. Your pictures are beautiful and it's so calming just looking at them!

MrsDM - Yep, the snow covering was early for us, too. Most of it melted yesterday though. Did you get your snow cover this morning?

Rain - We wouldn't have minded another week to get everything tucked away (is there ever enough time?), but I'm saying this all signals a long, s-l-o-w winter for us which you know I'm looking forward to!

Kristina - It was funny but the geese were the only ones to come right out into it. The chickens (not surprisingly) and even the ducks were very slow to venture forth onto the white stuff!

Susan - Will any of us ever be far enough ahead on winter prep? We're already noticing how much wood we've burned this year!

Michelle - It IS early this year! We're wondering if we're done with beautiful fall days or not. Is Mother Nature fooling with us??

Katie C. - Well, it would be some kind of a record if YOU had a snow cover this time of year!! Cover that little jalapeno plant at night to give it encouragement!

Thanks for the comment on the window/door pic. I thought it symbolized the feel of the morning.

Linda Rapp - Thank you so much for your kind words! The strange thing about this snow was that 130 miles south of us (in our closest "big city") they had 10" of snow!!

Our days of working in t-shirts are over until next May/June!

Today we have had mostly rain but a few snow/ice pellets thrown in the mix. The brunt of it comes tonight apparently. And the wind!! It just won't stop.

MrsDM - We, too, have had high winds! So much so that it kept both of us awake a few nights ago. Don't like it!
