Escaping From The Kitchen For A Short Rest Period

At this moment, I have two big stock pots full of stewed chickens cooling on the kitchen table and waiting to be boned.  In the last week or so I've been working on using up the last of the birds in the freezer to make room for a new bunch which we'll be butchering shortly.

I have two different batches of cookies mixed up and wanting to be baked.  We've been cookie-less around here for a while now and the Cookie Monster (aka Papa Pea) has been dropping strong hints that he sure would like some to be made.

I went out first thing this morning to gather the first big harvest of green peppers.  I've already made a big pot of brown rice and defrosted enough ground beef to cook up with the other ingredients to make a whopping big double batch of Stuffed Green Peppers.  The peppers are late this year.  On August 27th last year, I put the last of our yearly quota in the freezer.

Another two quarts of kimchi are patiently sitting on the kitchen counter while the fermentation process revs up before refrigeration.  I have all the ingredients for two more quarts as soon as a couple more cucumbers size up enough to use.

Papa Pea is outside cutting the lawn for the last time this season.  It hasn't rained in nearly 24 hours now so he had to jump on the chance to cut down the (nearly) dry grass.  This continually wet weather has been a challenge lately for several outside projects.

Okay, rest period over.  Someone needs to make me go back into the kitchen and face that lovely mess which, hopefully, I can finish working through before dinner time tonight.

That's it. I'm making a road trip to steal some of your awesome looking peppers. We have dinky ones. I hope I can stretch Hubby's paycheck to buy some from the produce stand. Now I'm hankering for stuffed peppers. MMMMM!

Rain - Good grief, this is the first time in two days that blogger has let me comment! Grrr.

I was having a low energy day last Friday, too. That's why I kept having to take breaks from the havoc in the kitchen!

I got thirteen servings of stuffed green peppers in the freezer though. Going to check tomorrow to see if any more peppers have grown big enough to use.

Hope you pizza was good!

Kristina - Even though my peppers are very late this year, I can't complain about the size or quality. To finish up last year's supply, we had them a bit too often in the last month or so . . . although Papa Pea could eat them every night. I need more variety on the table! ;o)

Suz in Ohio - My green beans are long done gone! But I did get plenty in the freezer for our winter's supply. Got 7 quarts of chicken broth from the two stewing hens I cooked up. Lots of tender, flavorful meat, too. Hope you had a good cooking weekend!

An interesting read. I'll have to pop back again.

Wow! You have a LOT going on simultaneously! I would be burning something... It's such a busy time of year, even with the so-so gardens we have had. I love your kimchi. I now make MP's cottage cheese and MP's kimchi!

Harvest is such a busy time of year!! My garden is no where NEAR the size of yours and I can only imagine if I ever get a garden that size. I will most definitely need to retire first! I need to make you cottage cheese! Rain introduced me to it. I love cottage cheese!

I hope things have settled for you. We are reaching 32 celcius tomorrow. Such weird weather.

Treey - Thanks for commenting! Your blog is one I'm planning on following when things slow down . . . this winter? Have found you from Rain's blog. Blogging is great, isn't it? :o)

Susan - The thing is I'm not very good at juggling several things at once. I guess I can do it (sorta) but don't feel very comfortable.

You're really making my cottage cheese and kimchi? Aren't they good?! And healthy. ;o)

MrsDM - The cottage cheese is so easy to make (besides tasting so good!) so I hope you can fit making it into your schedule. Such an easy meal, with veggies or fruit, when you need a quick one.

Our weather has warmed up some -- go figure. Rain forecast for Thursday through Saturday for us so I've gotta get outside things done today and tomorrow. Harvest, process, harvest, process! 'Tis that time of year, for sure!

I love the idea of freezing stuffed peppers. Maybe next year for me!

Leigh - Outside of made-ahead soups, the stuffed green peppers are probably my best "convenience" food! Hubby says he could eat them every night of the week . . . but somehow I think that would get old. :o) I'm still waiting for the peppers on the plants to size up a smidge more before making up the second batch for the freezer. Soon, I hope!
