Blogging Funk and A Goose Egg

I was grumping to a friend today that I've been in a bit of a blog post funk lately.  There's plenty going on here day after day, I suppose, but nothing to "write home about."  I feel I just don't have much to say.

I think I'm kinda out of sorts because of the very unusually warm weather we've been having for nearly all of the last couple of months, and now more of the same is forecast on into March.  Waaaah, I still want more winter time, darn it.  I've noted bloggers all over the country are talking about the mild winter and warmer than normal temps.  I can hardly believe we'll go right into spring without having more winter-like weather.  At least not here in northern Minnesota.

One thing to report:  We got our first goose egg of the season today!  Papa Pea came in from afternoon chores with this one chicken egg and the goose egg.  The Muscovy ducks (the hens, anyway) have been laying for about three weeks and it seems that the geese may now be starting.  We have to keep collecting the eggs because it's too soon for any little fuzz balls to be hatching out.  If that were to happen, we'd have brooding areas set up in the heated garage for a couple of months and that's not something we want to deal with unless absolutely necessary.  We'd much prefer Mom and Pop Poultry to raise their young the natural way out in the fresh air.  Ducklings and goslings are cute as heck to observe when kept inside, but they can become very odoriferous (to put it mildly) in short order!

"Odiferous" lol...you should try my fart and dart beans if you want "odiferous" hee hee...Mama Pea, we all have blogging funks I think. That's one of the reasons I stopped blogging for a long time because I felt like I had nothing interesting to say. But honestly, you'd be surprised that a lot of people are VERY interested in your daily goings-on. Just reading about the goose eggs is really a big deal for me because I don't have geese, and maybe one day I might want some, it's nice to read about things that just don't happen here for me! I told my bf the other day that I think I live such a boring life to some people, but for me it's bliss, so that's what I blog about! I love your blog! :)

You're not the only one in a blogging slump. I feel the same way! That's a big egg!! Do you ever eat any of your duck or goose eggs? -Jenn

Rain - You've made a good point . . . and were very sweet about it! No, your life doesn't seem boring in the least bit to me so maybe you're right and my (boring everyday stuff) doesn't seem boring to others. (Ha, you're gonna be sorry when I start blogging about "swept floor, did breakfast dishes, emptied ashes from stove, cleaned bathroom, etc.!!"

Jenn - I've been reading your blog regularly, but haven't been commenting much. For that I apologize. Gotta get back on the good blogger's binge!

We've been eating our duck eggs regularly. (Boy, are their shells hard to crack!) Now we get to start experimenting with the goose eggs. Whadda fried egg that's gonna make, eh?

Yes, blogging downer here, too. And same as you, I just don't feel very interesting right now.... Weather? We have had more winter here than we wanted - snow on the ground for the longest time in some 30 or more years and it was feet of snow, not a dusting. We don't usually get much spring - springter is what I call it - winter, a week of spring and then summer.

Same as you, ...don't seem to find anything interesting to write about although we are busy. We have had a 'plenty of sunshine' type of winter, but we could do with some rain now!

I was just thinking that my blogpost will be pretty boring today. The weather went from warm back to cold (yay! cant believe I'm saying yay).

Love hearing about your day to day activities. You're gonna need a very large pan to fry that egg!

Yes, my blogging has a rather forced feeling about it. What I'd rather do is curl up with about seven books and let someone else take the dogs out. And just what are your plans for that goose egg? I am enjoying my duck eggs, as they are great to bake with - same with a goose egg? One = two chicken eggs? My inquiring mind wants to know... :)

Oooh breakfast dishes! :)

It's been really strange here, too. Multiple days a week over 60, a couple mid-70's and then back down. Ugh. Yesterday, 72, tomorrow - snow showers.

Laurie - Should we form a club?

2 Tramps - Same here with no real spring ever. Goes from cold, damp and some snow left to 70 degrees and it's summer!

Vera - What is this? An epidemic?? All of us bloggers have run out of words to string together!

Mama Pea said...

Kristina - We had a low of 2 above this morning at 5 a.m. Now my husband says we're to hit over 40 this weekend. Wha . . . ?

Mama Pea said...

DFW - I'm also tempted to scramble it . . . as just a lone egg and see how much "scramble" it makes!

Thanks for your kind words!

Susan - You're going to have to pose your inquiring questions to a more intelligent mind, my friend. I don't recall ever hearing it said that goose eggs are excellent for baking as ducks eggs are. Anybody know about this?

Mama Pea said...

Erin - Keeps one guessing, doesn't it? Or totally bamboozled!

We have had a very mild winter here too. Makes me believe in the Global Warming theory.

I have been in the blogging doldrums here too, way more than you. I think it is one of those things where "inactivity breeds inactivity".

Glenda - You may be right . . . without our gardening (both veggies and flowers) to blog about and take pictures of we don't have much "new" to talk about. Heck, not even any big snowfalls this year!

Rain - Funny, funny. ;o)

I raised ducklings in the garage last year. What a stink! Now that they are outside, I am grateful for the spring that runs through their swimming pool. It washes away the funk! Now, if I could only get them to stop laying their eggs in the water...

Mama Pea said...

Farmer Barb - Yep, we had both ducklings and goslings in the garage last spring . . . they are the ones (outside) that are starting to lay now. Although it's no doubt more frustrating than funny to you, had to snicker at the thought of those eggs in the water!
