Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas!

It started snowing this morning around 11:30 and it's still coming down now at 5:30.  We've gotten somewhere around 6" so far which is great because now we should have enough on the ground for insulating purposes.

Up until today, my little car hasn't had snow on it this winter because it's been snugged away in our garage.  Wouldn't you know, today it got booted out first thing so some workshop-y things could be done in the garage.

I took a trip out to see how the waterfowl were doing this afternoon and took this shot as I came up to their "village."  Looks cozy with this new snow, doesn't it?

Everybody seemed to be just hunky-dory waddling around the "commons" area and basically happy with life.

The chickens, geese and ducks all have access during the day to several different "houses" which are all bedded with clean straw.

You can see by the snow covering on his back that Mr. Muscovy must have great insulation next to his skin.  (He has his own down jacket on.  Haha.)

Then I saw these two pansies who preferred to be on the inside looking out.  Apparently they didn't want to get their feathers wet.  (I don't blame them.  My "feathers" go all wonky when wet, too.)

A view of the pond.  Pond?  What pond?  Where?

The snow is really beautiful coating each branch and twig as shown on this apple tree.  (This picture, straight out of my camera, was taken right at sunset and there was a definite pink glow over everything outside.  Very strange, but lovely.)

I spent too much a little time this afternoon getting Christmas cookies ready to give.  I sure am glad I decided to make only half of the varieties I had on my original list.  ('Course, I did make double batches of some of the favorites.)  I always have the silly notion we won't have enough left for munching here at home.  That's not going to be a problem.

Mama Pea,

Brrrr......now all that snow looks nice and cold. Your birds seem to be enjoying the snow. Yum cookies!!! You must of been baking for days?? No major cookie baking here this year. We've decided to take things real slow, and quiet.....time to relax this Christmas.

Stay warm, enjoy your cookies :-)
Merry Christmas!!!
Hugs,
Sandy

Looks gorgeous! If you snow gets to deep around the duck condos do you just shovel it out? Nice digs for the feathered friends :)

Mama Pea, So happy you finally got your snow inches on the ground. The cookies look great, but that apple tree ... wow.

Sandy - I love that you say you've decided to take things real slow and quiet . . . time to relax this Christmas. Sounds perrrr-fect to me! Expecting more snow this weekend so our Christmas Day will be here at home . . . right where we choose to be!

Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Goatldi - Even after I gave some of the baked goodies away, we still have plenty here (I knew we would) so come on over and enjoy! ;o)

Nancy - Yes, indeed, we do (and did!) have to shovel out the birds' "commons" area and the paths for our coming and going around the outside. Also, after each snow I pull the snow off the roofs as most of them are a kind of plexiglass type material that let sunshine in . . . if free of snow.

Sue - More snow to come this weekend so I think we're in bona fide winter time weather now. It is beautiful and the birds seem to be doing just fine!

Merry Hoho Christmas to you, too!

Sue - I know many people don't want to put up with the cold and snowy conditions but I think I'd have a really hard time getting into the holiday spirit at 60 degrees! I would miss the snow, that's for sure.

DFW - When I looked out yesterday afternoon and saw that rosy hue to everything, I blinked and blinked my eyes and then actually took off my glasses to see if they were covered with flour or something that was making the scenery look so strange. I'm sure it was the setting sun's rays reflecting off all the new snow.

Oh my! That's a truly seasonal Christmas gift of snow. I kind of wish we got more snow, I miss it, but it would be a chore, I'm sure. Poultry looks happy!

Leigh - Although we are snow-lovers, each year we seem to forget how much time it takes to "deal with" it after we have a significant snowfall! We're bracing ourselves for a predicted storm over the weekend. Unfortunately, not good for all those who are planning to travel. We'll be home snug and cozy. And moving snow. ;o)

We have about that on the ground, but it's been there a week or so and is starting to look a whole lot less pretty and pristine. We're getting something right now, but it seems to be as much rain as snow, so I don't know what we'll have in the morning.

Love the poultry compound! There are some good ideas to glomb onto. Ducks are a ways down the road, but meat chickens aren't. Hmmm.....

Enjoy your pretty snow and a fair sampling of the goodies you're making, too!

Mark - Hope you get snow for Christmas rather than rain. I remember lots of Christmases in Illinois growing up when we had rain and ice. Not nice. Happy holidays to you and yours!
