Would You Wear Pink Socks?

I sat on the couch last night and managed to stay awake long enough to finish a pair of socks I've been knitting for myself.

When my daughter saw the first sock on my needles she said, "But Mom, you never wear pink."

"I will now," I replied.

I have to admit that when I purchased the yarn, I thought the red would be the predominant color rather than the pink tone.  Oh, well.

As I held them up last night to show them off to my husband, he said, "Wow, you knitted those up fast."

Uhmm . . . no.  I've been working on them (albeit sporadically) for somewhere around four to six months.  But time flies when you're having fun.

Great minds and all that stuff - I am working on my second pair of...fluorescent yellow socks with Army green highlights. What? All I can say is that the yarn must have been really, really, really marked down. And I cannot pass up a bargain. What say we put our socks on and light up the night? :)

Susan - Or . . . you could send me one sock and I'll send you one sock so we'd both have a pair that would really make people question our sanity!

Those socks of yours need to be pictured in a post. Maybe one of us should do a post this winter entitled "Show A Knitting Project That Makes People Wonder About You."

Yes I would wear pink socks, because I knitted myself a pair last year, and wear them out and about when I have my boots on!

Vera - You silly, silly girl! You gave me a chuckle with that one!

Yes, I would wear pink socks. I have never owned a pair of hand-knitted socks!

I would, and Susan's too, ha ha! I just have to find the time to learn to knit socks. I keep saying it, and don't do it. Just. So. Many. Tomatoes.

Linda - I've been happily surprised at how comfortable these socks I've been knitting for myself are. It probably pays to buy good, wool-blend yarn rather than the man-made, cheaper yarn I tried years ago. (We get wiser as we get older?) ;o}

Kristina - I wonder if you'll ever have another year when you process so many tomatoes? If you're still processing them come December, we're all going to have to get together and perform an intervention!

So beautiful. Knitting is one thing I've tried and discovered I don't have the skills for.

Even though Delaware is sandy soil with no rocks in our area we can not grow decent carrots. We get thumb sized stumpy stumps ;/ Love the socks. I don't care what color mine are but as a rule I don't wear pink either but would for those beauties also.

I would wear them and proudly. I have discovered fuzzy socks and have them in purple, bright blue and hot pink! Wear them 'barefoot' in the house instead of slippers most days.

I envy you the ability to knit socks. It always looked very difficult to me.

They are lovely, have you tried knitting any socks with that fuzzy yarn? I just 'found' my craft supplies and knitting needles so socks and mittens are on the to do list. Nice work by the way, don't hand knit socks fit so much nicer!

Ruth - Thank you! You're not alone in feeling you don't have the skills for knitting. I have a friend who does nearly any kind of crafty thing you can thing of . . . weaving, paper making, quilting . . . but claims she cannot learn to knit!

Lisa - Thanks for the kind words regarding the socks, pink though they may be.

Gosh, I always thought sandy soil was ideal for growing carrots. Go figure.

Glenda - I thought knitting socks would be much more difficult than they are. There are a couple of spots like the heel and toe shaping where you have to pay attention to what you're doing, but even that seems easy after a pair or two.

I love that you have your fuzzy socks in bright colors. I'm of the opinion we all need a lot of color in our lives!

Fiona - Hand knit sock do fit better, don't they? Especially after you find the kind of yarn and size of needles you prefer!

I've not tried using fuzzy yarn, but it would be fun to experiment.

Winter is such a perfect time for knitting anything . . . socks and mittens included!

YES! Nothing beats handknit socks for beauty and comfort!

Leigh - I am getting so itchy to start spending some time knitting now that the cooler weather has arrived. Have you been able to do any? Any weaving or quilting?

It's funny...when I worked my insane job and lived in the city, I would have Poo-Poo'd pink socks, not just the colour, but anything hand-knitted...my 18 years living in the mountains schooled me a little! Pink, blue, orange, alien-green...you make 'em, I'll wear 'em! :) They look so cozy. Comfort is more important to me than style now, but those socks are very cute! How about some slippers to go with them?

Rain - Yay to comfort over style! No knitted slippers to go with them . . . I have "defective" feet and have to wear something I fit my orthotics into. :o(
