A Totally Sunny Day -- Wow!

Today we put in more work on clearing the area for the new waterfowl winter quarters.

Papa Pea did more chainsaw work.

We ended up with a nice pile of to-be firewood for next year.

Dear daughter was chief in charge of the shredder/chipper operation.  She then took wheelbarrow after wheelbarrow into our little orchard and spread a lovely, heavy mulch under each fruit tree.

What did I do all day?  Sat on the deck and drank iced tea.  It was a great place to be because that ol' sun shining down all day was really HOT!

Okay, I confess.  I actually didn't sit on the deck all day.  Because our daughter was here to help with the clearing operation, I got to spend the whole day in the garden.  I got the raised beds completely weeded and some planting done in the field garden.

I think everything in the garden grew a couple of inches with the heat and sunshine after all the rain we've had.  My big pumpkins (planted under hot caps) look to have sprouted nicely, but no show yet for the small pie pumpkins.  Maybe tomorrow?

If it doesn't rain overnight (and it is supposed to be clear -- fingers crossed), I should be able to hill up the potatoes tomorrow.  I'm way late on doing that because of all our rain and our tater crop is going to suffer if I don't get it done PDQ!

That is a nice bunch of firewood. Did you rent the chipper, or is that yours? Nice to have some mulch for various spots. -Jenn

Yay! Playing in the garden, finally! I'm asking Santa Claus for a chipper/shredder for Christmas.

I want my two daughters to be just like yours!

Yeah! Bet it felt good to get so much accomplished by the end of the day.

Jenn - We went halves on it last year with our good neighbor. We'd both been talking about getting one, but hesitated because of the price. Then he found this one in next-to-new shape (had only been used a couple of times), so we jumped on it! It's worked out very well.

Laurie - A chipper/shredder isn't used every day (!) but it's so good for turning debris into something needed and useful on the property!

Annie - What a very sweet thing for you to say! She's had some hard knocks, big disappointments in life, but has kept her strong will and will tackle most anything. We love her! ;o}

DFW - I can't remember the last time I got to work in the garden all day. And with our daughter's help, we DID get a big bunch accomplished yesterday.

Mama Pea,

I don't believe you sat all day on your porch enjoying ice tea. You're like me, you can't sit still for more than 10 minutes....LOL. Wooohooo, I'm so happy to hear you were able to spend the day in your garden, and your daughter came over to help both you and Papa Pea. In the end, I'm sure you and yours accomplished a good amount of projects on your list.
Hugs, and love,
Sandy

I knew you were joking when you said you were sitting on the deck. Ha! Sitting. Good one!
Glad you got your sunshine!

I just hilled up my potatoes yesterday. We have gotten such little rain, but can still get out to weed. Everything looks great. What a good day of work.

Sandy - It was a fantabulous day all the way around. Even if I didn't get to sit on the deck and drink iced tea all day. ;o}

Fiona - We usually mulch the trees with grass clippings. It will be interesting to see if this shredded material last longer. I'm thinking it should.

Sue - Can't fool you, can I? :o)

Kristina - I got the potatoes done today. Whew, I real relief! Also a lot of weeding. I guess weeds don't need sunshine to grow. :o(

Mama Pea,
Love, love your garden and all the accomplishments today!
I've been working in our garden for weeks pulling weeds and mending soil.
Okay, this is my first year planting potatoes. What happens if you don't cover your potato plants? Yikes, mine are huge, they are on raised bed, but what in the world am I suppose to cover and why? Does this mean I've lost all my potatoes from a 44-foot row of them?
Nervous Nelly now about the potatoes!
Your garden is beautiful. I can relate to all the weed-pulling -- oh my aching back, knees and legs.
Hope you can help me with my potato question.
Happy Day - And hoping you have lots more sunny days ahead!
Bobbie

Nice work, and great to have a helper!

Nancy - Two working together makes the job go more than twice as fast. Add a good 3rd person and . . . oh, my! We got a LOT done!
