Good As New?

Not quite, but much, much better.  We decided to take the foot "brace" off the little gosling who arrived with a turned under right foot.

It's definitely much improved.  At least it's out flat now rather than folded under.  It looks curved more to the center of her body with a pigeon-toed (gosling-toed?) angle to it.

Here's a picture of her normally formed left foot for comparison.  Whether the right foot will straighten out more on its own now that we've taken off the corrective adhesive only time will tell.

She's walking on it as if nothing is wrong, has a normal goose gait and seems quite healthy although she's still much smaller than the other gosling we think is the second female.  Either she's really a runt . . . or she's not a Pilgrim goose like her other three brooder mates!

It will be interesting to see how she gets on in time, well done :-)

One things for sure, she's just as cute as can be. Look at that sweet face!

Dawn - Thanks! Yep, we'll be watching her progress for sure.

Laurie - Goslings and ducklings are way cuter than chicks! They're much calmer, too.

Nice job, Mama Pea!
I guess time will tell how (and who?) she is.
Have a wonderful weekend

Mama Pea -- Her foot looks a lot better thanks to you. Aren't you proud? Playing in the snow with the twins looks like so much fun after the waffle and bacon breakfast. Yum!

Yay! Looks like she'll be okay. I want to raise two ducks now, just so I can call them Gus and Gertie.

Sue - Thank you, ma'am! Same to you!!

Rosemary - I'm just thankful the gosling's little foot was able to be helped as much as it seems.

There's nothing like little kids to spread joy. They notice and revel in the small wonders!

Kristina - Good names for two ducks! Hope you get them.

Mama Pea,

AKA: Doctor to the Animals :-)
She does look better, and she's walking like nothings wrong. Good job my friend.
Sending hugs and love your way.

She probably will flatten out more as she keeps walking on it.

I have had calves with feet turned up where they walking on their 'ankles' or whatever that is called. I splinted them and most came out great.

This farm life keeps us on our toes (pardon the pun)

Good job!

Sandy - I was so glad to see it not turn under again! Keeping fingers crossed it continues to improve.

gld - Well, there's always something new to learn, that's for sure. I have a feeling her foot will never look "normal" but as long as she is walking without trouble, that's good.

LHinB - Thanks! I was so happy to see it straightened out as much as it is.

That little foot looks so much better! I bet they have grown!

Mama Pea said...

Susan - Yes, they are all growing . . . but little floppy foot still looks only half the size of the other three. She continues to seem healthy and strong, but if she's the same breed (they were all supposedly hatched on the same day) as the others, how come she's so small?
