Short Post (Am I Capable of That?)

Yes, we had a frost last night.  White coating on the roofs, vehicles, yard and ice on the chickens' water.  Fortunately it dissipated rather quickly and as far as I can tell, nothing in the garden was damaged.  (Bless cold frames and hot caps.)

The haskap bushes look the same as they did late yesterday afternoon.  Some blossoms still hanging on, a few berry buds showing.  The leaves are looking lush and just fine.

Along with a few other accomplishments, we got all 50 asparagus roots planted yesterday.  We ordered them from Nourse Farms in Massachusetts and they looked very, very healthy and vigorous.

Waiting for a Rhubarb Crunch to come out of the oven and then on to planting potatoes.  I want to have the whole garden in by the end of this coming week.  That's the plan anyway.

Garden in by the end of the week is my plan also. Haven't looked at the weather forecast yet. We had frost last night. Brrrr... Is that the last of it?

Oh bummer about the frost! It didn't get that cold down here but I did worry for a little bit. Hopefully all of your asparagus does amazing. We planted 9 sprouts and so far only two have come up. Good luck and enjoy the rhubarb I love it!

Ooooh, Rhubarb Crunch! I need to get me into the rhubarb patch soon. I love Nourse Farms - they are so nice. I took a road trip there once and they are even nicer in person. Plus, there is the dangerous sale area...

Oh dear--I didn't know you could VISIT them! They are the best company I've ever ordered from. I don't want to hear about sale areas. That could spell trouble........................

Sounds like you have a massive garden. I'm glad the frost didn't hurt it. I can't wait to see pictures of it when all the plants are up and growing.

Odiie - We had frost last night, too. The second night in a row. I sure HOPE that was the last of it! If I'm going to have my garden all in by the end of the week it will have to warm up for me to get my beans and pickling cukes in!

Mama Pea,

Good to know the frost didn't hurt anything you've planted. Asparagus.....love me some asparagus. We have some planted from 2 years ago, and it's produced nice harvests.

Rhubarb crunch......oh dear, I'm drooling........and now hungry......grrrrr.......I'm going to have to sneak up to your place and steal your crunch.

Have fun planting your potatoes!!! I need to go out and dig up two tires of potatoes. The plants have died off and I need to see if we have potatoes or if they died off because of the rain.

Leah - This is the third time I've planted asparagus on this property . . . let's hope this is the charm. And also boo-hiss on this cold weather that keeps hanging around!

Laurie - By the end of summer, you will no doubt be sick of my garden pictures! It is kinda big but we try hard to grow enough fruits and vegetables to last us year 'round.

Sandy - Here I am planting potatoes and you're already harvesting them. Is that crazy or what? I did get them all planted yesterday. Now to wait for the first green leaves to poke through.

P.S. There's just about one serving of Rhubarb Crunch left . . . better hurry! :o]

We were finally able to get all of our garden in this weekend. I still have stuff I need to harvest from our winter garden.

I'm hoping to be able to spend the day today planting the garden. I told hubby he'll need to fetch his own dinner--it looks like last night was the final frost--hooray! Or should I say--at this point I don't care anymore--the stuff is getting planted NOW OR NEVER!
Ha!
Have a wonderful week--you've done an amazing job getting all those berries and asparagus planted!

Michelle - Over-lapping gardens! That would never happen here! I once tried to keep carrots in the ground over winter. Put a cold frame on top of the bed, covered the carrots with a foot of straw and . . . voila! Instant orange mush!

Sue - I'm still holding off on my beans and pickling cukes . . . too darn cold yet! I should have told my husband he was in charge of rustling up some dinner last night. I was so pooped from working in the garden all day I could hardly move! But I did manage to make BLTs for us to eat and then, wouldn't ya know, got an extra boost of energy, stayed up too late working on inside things. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

We're in sight of having ours in, but a friends father died unexpectedly so much of our Saturday will be spent attending a funeral in the NW corner of the state. Soon!

Mark - You can only do what you can do. But when the weather and other occurrences interfere with doing anything in a time sensitive manner, it can be frustrating. Sorry to hear of your friend's father's passing.
