There Is Spring in the North Woods . . . Sort Of

Even though our weather wasn't warm today, it was above 32° so we saw a little more melting.

Remember that picture in my last post of the two deer right outside our back door?  The driveway was completely snow covered then.  This is that same spot today.

I can even finally see some of my raised beds in the garden emerging.  (And I thought that would never happen.)  I'll probably have to wait a few more days to plant the tomatoes though.  (Hahahaha!)

Will ya look at this?  Not only is there ground showing but there is green grass showing!  This photo is straight out of the camera with no color enhancement.  Get out the lawn mower!

Not to say there isn't still a lot of snow blanketing most of the property.  But it's on its way out now, by criminy.

I got a little wild and crazy and hung rugs out on the line today to dry.  Did they dry?  Heck, no.  Actually, they may have come in a little damper (and colder, for sure), but I just couldn't resist doing it.  (They're in the dryer as we speak.)

My bloggy friend writing Tombstone Livestock said she had a temp of 92° yesterday.  What's she bragging about?  That's only 50-some degrees warmer than we had.  (Can't you fry eggs on the sidewalk at that temperature?)

What part of the north pole do you live in?

Well sad to say I'm in California, too and altho it's NORTHERN California we were in the mid 80"s ! We mowed the lawn, planted more veggies and chased down 4 hens with new chicks...it's no longer Winter for us.

Sunnybrook Farm - The northern part, of course. :o) (This has been an exceptionally snowy winter!)

Lynda - Wow, you folks in California don't waste any time getting into real summer weather, do you? My husband wouldn't like to live there for the one fact that he'd have to mow the lawn so many months of the year!

Mama Pea,

Good to see the snow is starting to melt. I still think it's a little early for cutting the grass up there. I think your lawn mower would probably sink with the water melting from the snow.

Soon you'll be planting in your garden beds wooohoooo!!!!

Sorry to share this news with you, we were in the 80's today and I have a good chunk of my planting done :P

Yesterday the snow completely melted from the garden. There's still plenty on the south sides of our road, in the wooded areas, and wherever dear Hubby piled it up.....but it's gone. Finally gone. I spent the entire day out in the garden yesterday chopping down sunflower and corn stalks and having Don run them through the chipper, and then I spread them back on top of the border. It looks neat as a pin out there. But I wasn't smart enough to HANG OUT LAUNDRY. ACK!
How could I forget to do that??????????????????
I've been waiting 6 months to do that. Idiot me!

I hope the snow will melt soon, and I can peek your beautiful garden again.

You can see green!! Woot!! I had to laugh reading about hanging out the laundry. That is the one thing I missed the most this winter - I hung laundry out and then it walked back into the house - frozen stiff as a board. But that smell....

Ha! It's going to be about 60 here today, nice and sunny, and WAY too much yard work starting...

I LOVE your hanging rugs out on the line photo! Talk about positive thinking! You've handled this crazy winter well, because we all know that you, of all people, are so ready to be out and about in your garden. I'm so glad at least you're seeing a little 'green' out there. Have a good weekend Mama Pea!

Well if I had a sidewalk I could probably fry an egg on it, bet I could on the hood of my truck. Remember I live where we have 8 months of summer and only 2 weeks each of spring and fall. I will be thinking of you when it's 115 here and your high is 78, LOL. But no way could I live with that much snow.

Sandy - We've had a LOT of melting in the past couple of days which is great to see. I'm even getting close to starting seeds inside now.

Sue - I need to get a new post up showing how much of our snow has disappeared in the last couple of days . . . so exciting. Tomorrow is my laundry day and I may just hang it out on the line. Maybe. If we have sunshine. :o)

Endah - Thanks for the sweet words. I'm kinda eager to see my garden start taking shape again, too.

Susan - I used to hang clothes out and bring them in stiff as a board, too . . . but no more. I think it actually cooled down the inside of the house to have all that frozen stuff draped over things to dry!

Little Homestead - Why is it that we think EVERYTHING has to be done at once when the nice weather hits? It's an impossibility! But I know I look at it that way, too. Silly, we are.

Tanmay Roy - Thank you!

Lisa - More melting this weekend! We've got more cold weather (sigh) in the forecast for this coming week, but I don't see any big amounts of snow at least!

Tombstone Livestock - The other thing is that it would be really hard on all your livestock to be cooped up in a barn for our long winters!

So exciting to see the green in your neck of the woods! I know you are itching to get out there and get busy in the sunshine :)
