Have you noticed my new blog header photo? It's another picture taken by my talented daughter. She labeled it "November's Tears" and although it's a very appropriate title, I don't think there is anything teary or sad about it.
I understand one could look at it as a damp and dreary depiction of the boreal forest in which we live, but to me it has a quiet, enveloping, soothing feeling . . . almost as if the woods is settling into itself in preparation for a long, restful, comfortable winter. Come to think of it, maybe this annual period (what I tend to think of as "drab November") prepares us for our most closed-in, restful season.
As a present a couple of years ago, I asked for a framed reproduction of "November's Tears" and since then always hang it as part of my house decorations at this particular time of year.
Chicken Mama's portfolio contains many photographs that are outstanding, and though it's hard to choose, I do have to say this is my personal favorite. It simply speaks to me.

Hmmm, looks like time to be indoors and quilting.
I always love those so called "dreary" pictures--this has, and always WILL be my favorite time of year. It's a signal to slow down and recuperate for another gardening season. I love the "drab". And I LOVE the header photo. Your daughter is very talented! Runs in the family....................
: )
I like the picture too. The last leaves hanging on the branches and all those pretty drops of water sparkling are beautiful.
I agree, your daughter is very talented! I also agree that it is not drab to me. Actually, I think it 'sparkles'! Love it!
I think the photo is beautiful as well.
She is one talented girl, that daughter of yours. Frankly, I cannot wait until it snows. I need to stop, darn it, and that seems like the only thing that puts the brakes on.
Tombstone Livestock - OKAY! :o}
Sue - Thanks, my friend! But daughter is much more creative (good imagination) than I.
Sparkless - That's what I see in the photo, too!
Thanks, Lisa!
DFW - I'm going to have to tell my daughter about all your nice comments. She always looks at me a little funny when I comment on how beautiful I think the photo is.
Susan - Are you forgetting the hours of snow shoveling, my pretty one? Bwahahaha!
It's beautiful, I understand why you'd add it to the fall décor. The rich fading colors, the leaves hanging make me feel like mother earth's head is nodding & laying down to winter sleep
Katidids - Thanks, Katie. You described it very well!
My kids love taking photos this time of year. They get a big pile of leaves, and the dogs play and play in them. Not to mention the kids. Adults too. Tee hee.
Kristina - Up here by us, it's sometimes hard to find enough leaves (not so many deciduous trees) to make a big pile of them, but I sure do remember my childhood in Illinois and playing for hours in the leaves as you describe!
