We ended up with about 6" of heavy, wet snow on Saturday. Yesterday temps were above freezing most of the day so we got some melting.
This morning we woke to 1-1/2" or 2" of new snow and it's still coming down lightly.
If this were November, we snow lovers who choose to live up here near the tundra would be dancing naked adorned with a wreath of pine boughs on our head reveling in what would be looking like a wonderful winter season ahead.
On April 8th, not so much.
But as I often say, we need moisture for the upcoming growing season and we are, indeed, getting a lovely dose of "poor man's fertilizer."
For all of you working in your gardens today, planting those cooler weather crops and perhaps even setting out started plants, I'm with you in spirit.

Oh my dear friend, Mama Pea, I am so sorry I just posted about our 75 degree weather.... sniff, sniff. I do so feel for you, because as much I enjoy our SC winters, I am ready for a true Spring too. Will keep you 'in spirit' and hope for a big thaw-down for you soon.
Yes, once it's April - enough is enough! I am headed out to clean my center garden beds right now, and hopefully discover some good compost from hubby's "heap" and top off the beds. Top off - who am I kidding, the beds are about a foot low LOL
AAAK! I was thinking of you yesterday when it hit 70 and we were in the garden. Mother nature is making up for last years dryness for sure! Think of it as more planning time for summer projects and finishing all those indoor chores....& possibly putting your feet up for once!
Strange year for sure, it's cloudy here today with a chance, yes, just a chance of showers, too little, too late. Guess I better get busy and send you this fabric so you have something to do while you are house bound.
Wow, snow! I'm in full-blown planting season for the summer with a high of 80 today.
Ick. But moisture is good....even if it's in the form of the white stuff.
Sheesh, you are sure getting hammered with winter. Guess you'll just have a delayed spring. Now take this time to relax before spring hits you in the face and you have to run all day to keep up with all the chores that have to get done.
We had snow yesterday , but HEAVY rain today so that's much better. I left the cover off the cold frame to get some good moisture in there. Hard to imagine the lettuce is up and doing well. We had a foot of snow last week.
We are having rain and bad winds. I had to cover my plants to protect them. I am so ready for warm weather.
We had rain/sleet yesterday. Sunny, low 50's and really blowing today. I'm ready for some warmth. Sorry for your snow, but it's pretty!
Aw Mama Pea. I was working in my garden today. On the other hand, when everything around here is burning up from the summer heat, you'll be enjoying your outdoor weather!
Awww ;/ You need some of our weather...I will try to push it your way!
I try to think of the snow as....well, I'm probably glad this wasn't all rain right now...... Plus, it is moisture. :)
Lisa - It isn't exactly warm today but we did reach up into the low 40s so we've had quite a bit of melting. Hooray!
Erin - My beds are low this year, too! What's with that?
Katidids - I have been getting in some time in my quilting room! And, boy howdy, does that feel good. Maybe some pictures to post one of these days!
Tombstone Livestock - How in the world do you make it through the summer months when you're so lacking in rain now??
Somehow, I think I'll find something to do while waiting for the weather to straighten out. But sewing/quilting is always a joy!
The Weekend Homesteader - Oh, my! 80 degrees in April is too warm for me!
Carolyn - You are right! Moisture is good. I hate it when I have to plant in dust!
Sparkless - I am trying to savor each of these days before full-blown summer hits us. We usually have very little actual spring . . . it's more like we go from winter to summer.
Sue - Yes, it IS hard to imagine your lettuce is up and doing well. Guess when they say it's a cold weather crop, they mean it!
Michelle - They say even in the summer time winds do tremendous damage to our garden plants. Very stressful!
Nancy - The snow is, indeed, pretty. It makes everything look so clean. But it would have been even prettier if it had come in December, January or February this year!
Leigh - Yes, I've come to realize we gardeners all over the country each have our own set of challenges and disadvantages.
Stephanie - Push harder, please! ;o)
Foxy Lady - So true! Moisture is good considering we're still on the dry side. And snow or no snow, it's not going to be very warm right now anyway!
