I'm Hoping This Will Work . . .

There is an assortment of books and pattern folders I have that I'd like to pass on to someone else who can use them.

This group that I have gathered so far (we're still in the midst of going through all our books and reorganizing them) is craft books, a couple of cook books, quilting books and some really old (from the 60s and 70s) knitting books.  Maybe a gardening book or two thrown in the stack, too.  Even a copy of "Sheepish" by Catherine Friend.  (I found I had two.)

What I'm thinking of doing rather than having a drawing of a name from those of you who comment you would be interested in one of the books, for instance, is to post a picture and description of an item (or couple of items) each day on my blog and then the first person who says they would like to receive it, gets it.  Simple as that.  That way I can move these items along more quickly and get them on to a new home.  Will that work?  Let's give it a try starting tomorrow and see how it goes.  Be sure to check in.  You never know what might be up for grabs!

Papa Pea and I worked all day again today on sorting the books.  We have taken books from every single shelf, bookcase and packed away box and spread them in piles by category all over the house.  It now looks like we have more of a mess than ever.

My dear hubby refused to work on the project any more after dinner tonight (I never should have let him sit down and eat), but he did promise that he thinks we can have everything re-shelved and put away in a proper place by the end of the day tomorrow.  What a job this has been.  And what a relief it will be to have chairs, sofa, end tables, kitchen table, counters and floor space available to use in a normal manner again.

Talk about the crazy ups and downs, highs and lows of the weather this winter.  We were warned of freezing rain today followed by 5-7" of snow.  The temperature has remained at 33 degrees nearly constantly since 3 a.m. this morning.  (Ask me how I know.)  But no rain, no freezing drizzle, no snow.  Sure feels a lot different than the sub-sub-sub-zero temperatures we had last week.  I'm betting some of our not-so-deep snow cover even melted today.  Geesh, you sure can't count on anything this winter.  We're learning to operate each day on "what you see is what you get."

Don't forget to stop by tomorrow to see what's up for give-a-way!

Your book-cleaning-outing post previous to this one had my head spinning. I WISH we could get to doing something like that, and we don't even have a fraction of what it looks like you do. I just LOVE books...just need some shelves for them.
I think your idea of "getting rid" of the books is great, but may I be so bold as to suggest maybe asking for a "donation" for postage so you don't go in the red just trying to get your household book inventory in order? Sorry if that sounds brash, but if you're REALLY going to be giving away a crapload of books, you're looking at a possibly hefty price tag.
Or am I just an old cheapskate kermudgen? Sorry, just typing without thinking.

Carolyn - No, you're not a cheapskate or any other derogatory name. You're just a lot smarter than I am! I did give a thought or two as to exactly how much it would cost to send any hard-bound book. (Too much?) But many of the proposed give-a-ways are soft covers and I can send all the books via Media Mail which is the most economical rate available these days. (So what if it takes a year and a half to arrive three states away?!) I guess if I have to start dipping into my food budget to mail the books, I'll have to stop the foolishness and haul them to our library who will welcome them for their annual book sale. :o} You're a sweetie for thinking of the financial side of things for me.

I have sworn off buying anymore books until I sort my own collection out. It would cost more than it's worth to mail me any of your wonderful books. But I can drool over them and check any good titles out from our library. I love to see what other people read so I get new ideas on what to read next.
I hope you and Papa Pea get all those books sorted early tomorrow so you can both have a much deserved sit down, and perhaps read a good book.

Since you have 2 copies of "Sheepish" I would be more than happy to send you postage+ for one copy.

Sparkless - Something tells me when we do get this mongongous project finished, we aren't going to feel like choosing a book to read! (You're very funny!)

Tombstone Livestock - Drat and darn! I KNEW several of you would be interested in that copy of "Sheepish." Our daughter stopped by tonight and saw it in the stack and took it! I thought for sure she had a copy of her own, but she says she only had a copy of Catherine's first book, "Hit By A Farm" and had never gotten a copy of "Sheepish." I'm so sorry she snatched it so it's no longer available. (Now I'm wondering if the reason I had two copies was because I'd gotten 2 thinking I'd give one to her as a gift . . . and never did!)

OOo, sheepish sounds good! Or a non-quilting crafts book...

You are a very nice person to do that. I had hoped to visit a book sale tomorrow, in search for more crafting/pattern books, but I am not feeling well. I am sure whoever is picked to get the item will enjoy it.

If I find that I *do* already have it, I promise to give it back so she CAN offer it up again! :)

My husband is a lot like yours, in that he calls it a day around dinnertime. Why me, if I'm onto something, I could go on and on. You will feel so much better when not only your house is back to normal, but you've gone through your stash. I'm almost through ours, but I don't think we have anywhere near as many as ya'll! It's slow-going though, because I have to thumb through each one. :) Our weather is really nutty here today. Warm, hot, humid, muggy morning means severe weather this afternoon. Maybe tornadoes - in January no less?! Then a high of 30 something on Friday?! I like the way you're choosing to look at it.

Nancy po - I think a couple of the books I'll be offering have non-quilting crafts in them. Stand by . . . :o}

Kristina - Oh, drat! Hope you don't have the bad flu bugs that seem to be so prevalent right now. Feel better soon! Watch the next few days for crafting/pattern give-a-ways! (You won't even have to leave home.)

Lisa - Unfortunately, our book sorting won't be really done done (!) when we get everything back on shelves because hubby says there are some books that he simply can't let go of until he (does what you've been doing and) thumbs through them to make the decision whether he wants to keep them or not. So hopefully winter will last long enough for him to do that, too! (But I doubt it.)

Your weather has been more crazy than ours! Way too warm lately, don't you think? The possibility of tornadoes is not nice.
