Honk If You Love Wild Geese

For the past few days, we've had six wild Canadian Geese staying with us in the poultry pasture.

In the past some have set down on the pond for a quick rest now and then but we've never had any stay as long as these have.

Unlike the wild Mallard ducks we frequently have, these guys don't seem the least bit interested in scattered grain.  They are grazing machines chowing down almost constantly on the thick grass still ample in the pasture.

I'm pretty sure they must be stoking up for the flight south and we'll wake up some morning soon to see them gone.  We'll miss them.  Our domestic geese?  Probably not so much.  They've tolerated the visitors but will occasionally give them a half-hearted, hissing charge so they know who owns the place.

What beautiful visitors to have drop by! I have seen and heard several flocks of geese passing over in the last couple of weeks. It always thrills me - they are such amazing birds.

2 Tramps - Papa Pea and I always drop what we're doing and run to get a look at the geese when they fly over in the spring and fall. There's just something about their honking and majestic presence in the sky that seems to stir primitive feelings in one's soul.

They are so pretty! My neighbors pond had some visitors like that for awhile, I loved looking at them!

I love that sound - the sound of fall (and winter, but I'm not thinking about that right now - lalalalala). I live hear a wetlands, so they fly in and out alot.

Kelly - It surprises me that they seem to coexist so well with our other poultry. Yesterday they were grazing away while several chickens were walking around among them. Apparently each knows the other isn't any danger!

Susan - No, no, no. Not even CLOSE to winter time yet. Nuh-uh. Nope. We have plenty of time to get ready yet. Right? RIGHT??

Lucky you to have a chance to see them flying by so often.

Honk! And their even Canadian.

You don't want them hanging around too long cause they make a real mess with their poop.

Hey Mamma Pea,

Please send them our way (SW GA), we love having them around.

We have one set (couple) that nests by our pond each year. So far, their offspring have thrived despite the occasional cayotes.

I love that sound! We always have to look also. That sound is one thats a kick in the butt to get fall chores done quickly

That should be "they're" not "their", gah! You would think I didn't go to university and graduate with distinction.

So neat to have your own resident couple raising their families there! We've had Mallard ducks do that frequently but never geese.

They really do make a mess with their poop! (So do domestic geese!)

Worry thee not about your grammar. I go back to read a comment after I've published it and am appalled over some slip I've made!

Ha! Now I'll think of what you said every time I see them go over this fall!
