A Lone, Lonely (?) Goose

Who can figure out the story on this one?

This morning when we looked into the poultry yard to see if the six Canadian Geese were still there . . .

 . . . only one goose was left.  Still (in early afternoon) nary a sign of the other five.

This goose seems to be in good shape and not injured.  S/he was able to fly in with the others earlier this week.  Why was this one left behind when the other five left?

Maybe she's waiting for some friends? Who knows what's in the mind of a goose. Maybe she just likes your place so much she'll be staying. Lots of geese don't fly south anymore. We even have some here that stay all year.

Hmm. maybe he/she hasn't had enough tasty grass yet.

Goose with an attitude? You may have a winter guest! Do geese mate for life?

Aw, what a sweet but sad photo. I didn't realize you had a pond. Perfect for things like geese and ducks passing through.

Sparkless- We wouldn't mind at all if s/he stayed the winter with us. (But I bet we'd feel we had to make a little three-sided shelter for it down by the pond.)

Judy - Doesn't it seem strange though that if the six came together, they'd leave together?

Katidids - Yes, geese do mate for life. That's what I always think about when someone tells us of their goose hunting adventures. (Am I a softie?)

Leigh - Yep, we do have a small pond that is enclosed within the poultry pasture. Needless to say our domestic geese use it a lot and we've had as many as 40 wild Mallards hanging around for a summer one year. In the hot weather we've even seen the chickens taking a drink along the edge.

Strange Maybe it is injured or sick.

I know not what thoughts lie in a goose head. Hmm. Nope. Makes no sense to me.

Qwaynt - The goose seems to be healthy . . . but then I haven't taken its temperature or anything. ;o}

Lori - Heck, half the time I don't know what thoughts lie in MY head!

Good to hear from you. Been thinking about you and hoping you're doing okay.
