Oh, num-num-num-num! The strawberries may be over and done with but now we have blueberries and raspberries. And we've been enjoying eating them fresh a couple of times a day.
After our classy (not) dinner tonight of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, we each had a bowl of berries with half cream, half milk. Papa Pea chose to mix blueberries and the luscious golden raspberries.
Me? I stuck with my favoritest . . . red raspberries. Can't beat 'em.
Sure, I work pretty hard at different times of the year to insure we have as good a crop of berries as Mother Nature will allow. But it's all worth it when we sit down to fresh berries that were on the bush less than an hour ago. Mmmm-mm!
Oh, that looks good. My raspberries don't bear until fall, and most of the time the frosts take care of them first. Is there a taste difference between the yellow and red? I've never tried the yellow. It just seems "wrong" to me........
Sue - We originally had four rows of raspberries, one being fall bearing. They were not of good flavor and most of the time got zapped by frost (like yours!) so I ripped them out.
Yup, the yellow raspberries do taste different. So hard to describe though. Sweeter in a way, but not as much real flavor if that makes any sense. Not to say they aren't really good. Ha! I agree with you in that they just seem "wrong!"
Yum! I've got a flat of raspberries order. I'll freeze most of them and eat some fresh. I think I'll go pick some of the blueberries before the bugs and birds get them. I won't get much more than a large handful but your picture has got me craving them!
Sparkless - Fresh raspberries are one of the most luscious foods I can think of!
I was going to pick blueberries this morning but we had heavy rain yesterday afternoon and overnight and everything outside is SOAKED! A good thing but not pleasant for crawling around in the blueberry patch.
I wish I had more time to go up to the farmers market to get some fresh berries, but don't even know if you can trust them for not being local but maybe from Mexico/same at the store.I know ,I'm showing for 1/2 empty glass again, but we can't all be happy as a lark
Delish! We had the peanut butter thing going on Saturday night too... it was 6 oclock and when the family asked what was for dinner all they got was a blank stare from me....!
I live with my husband on a small homestead in Northern Minnesota. Our daughter currently lives in a small cabin in the woods not too far from us.
Our place is located outside a small town and a two and a half hour's drive from the nearest big city. Trips to the city are infrequent, well-planned, and exhausting!
We currently raise chickens and have hives of honey bees. Raising some of our meat and most of our fruits and vegetables is a priority for us; so, along with our birds for meat and eggs, we have fruit trees, berry patches and a huge vegetable garden.
Quilting is my passion, and I could happily spend each day in my quilt studio if I weren't happily spending each day out in the garden. Good thing we have winters up here; Mother Nature helps keep my life balanced.

Oh Yum! I LOVED to make pink milk when I was a kid...I'd squish my berries all up. Eat an extra bowl for me!
Yummy!!!
tami - Will do! For breakfast! In a couple of minutes. Can't wait. (Good thing so much fresh fruit doesn't upset my intestinal tract, huh?)
Stephanie - You said it, Girl!
Oh no, a photo of both blueberries and raspberries, my two favorites for sure!!! Guess I had better go get a towel and wipe down my keyboard now.
