It's Hard To Believe . . .

Looking out on our barren landscape this morning when it's 4 degrees above zero and the wind is sending what little snow we have scudding across the frozen ground . . .

. . . it's hard to believe that we're living in the same spot that will look like this in a short few months from now.

But, hey, that's what living in a place where you have a definite change of seasons is all about, right? Right! We chose this area to make our permanent home many years ago, and we've never regretted the decision. I'm not in any way complaining, I'm just saying . . .

Wow, what a contrast!!

Wow, your beds looks so organized and tidy when planted!

OMG-I just got done saying to hubby how much I love the weather (it's snowing like crazy mad!) and a big PHBBBPPPPTTT to those that don't like it. Ha.I NEED my change of seasons. Summer is heavenly, no doubt--the birds, the garden, the bees and butterflies. But right now, I've got stew brewing, bread baking, Christmas music cranked (don't ask...) and plans of snowmobiling this afternoon. Hooray for the PERFECT place to be!
Have a GREAT day, Mama Pea!

The Weekend Homesteader - Thank you! That's one of the things I like about raised beds . . . it's easier to keep them more organized and tidy than the stuff I plant in the field garden. Less weeds for one thing because I plant them so intensively.

Sue - Oh, how I envy you your snow! We need a big bunch so badly now that the weather has turned so cold. Christmas music blaring during a good snow is so PERFECT! Have a fantabulous snowmobile ride this afternoon!

I just can't believe how cold it is where you are:-). How many cord of wood do you all use a year? That is your primary source, right?

What a beautiful burst of color! That perked me right up - I agree with Sue; no matter how mitchy I get about winter, I love the change of seasons. Not the snowmobiles, though....

I'll Call You Jane - Well, we're kinda betwixt and between on how much wood we burn right now. A halfway good guesstimate might be between 4 and 8 cords. We just this summer added another wood stove in the new to-be living room but are finding we don't keep it going during the day. This, though, is our first cold snap of the season. So far, it's been EXTREMELY mild and we haven't burned much wood at all. The wood stove in the kitchen heats most of the house, and Papa Pea keeps a small stove perking along in his workshop in part of the garage. Our house is very energy efficient and even today because it's sunny, I'm letting the main stove die down.

Susan - Yupper, I'd never want to live anywhere where there wasn't the definite changes of seasons. To everything there is a season . . . and I love that feeling.

Thanks for the reminder of what is just around the corner on the calendar! Like you, snow is skipping us - I am watching the snow clouds that have obscured the Cascade mountains from my view. The wind has been howling for hours and I can see that snow is falling across the valley - just not here... yet...

Wouldn't it be boring if things always looked the same? That's why I love the change of seasons.

Well, I can't say that I like having snow, even the little we get here, but I DO love seeing the picture of your garden in bloom! Thanks for the Perk-Me-Up!

While you are dreaming of Spring and Summer I will dream of having a garden as nice as yours!

I never get tired of seeing those summer garden photos! I can't believe how little snow you have!

2 Tramps - We just have to learn to be content with the weather we get. But already folks in this neck o' the woods are starting to worry about a dry spring and the threat of forest fire. Not a good thought.

Sparkless - The drabness makes us appreciate the lushness all the more?

Carolyn Renee - You are a southern girl at heart! That picture of the garden in summer had the same effect on me. Why is that?

P.S. I'm still unable to comment on your blog. I'm reading . . . I just can't let you know I am! :o(

Chai Chai - Awwww gosh, what a nice thing to say! Thank you.

Erin - I know, disgusting, isn't it? If I thought about it I could get really depressed. :o(

That's why the table is covered with seed catalogs. This is the time to dream and make lists of those delicious, beautiful summer gardens. There are no weeds to pull now, no bugs to pick, just perfect, juicy tomatoes, and crisp delicious cucumbers. Now...just which heirloom varieties will I plant this year?

Mama Pea said...

Blackberry Brambles - Thank you! I must admit after taking the year off gardening last year, I am VERY eager to get back into the dirt this spring!

Stephanie - Can you believe all the greenery and color in the summer compared to now??

Trailshome - That's on my schedule for this week yet . . . spreading out the seed catalogs and checking what I need to order for this year. Fun, fun, fun!

It is amazing, isn't it? Minnesota sure is the land of extremes isn't it?

Mama Pea said...

Mama Tea - Extremes, for sure! But, personally, I wouldn't want it any other way. (Keeps us on our toes!)
