Shopping Day

We went to the big city today to load up on more supplies. We never did see a thermometer so don't know how hot it was but we suspect it must have been around 120 degrees. (Okay, a slight exaggeration, but not much. When we got home a little after 6 p.m., our thermometer in the shade still read 83.7. And we're 125 miles farther north --- and usually cooler --- than the big city south of us.)

Add the high temps and the fact that the air conditioning isn't working in our Suburban and, well, I might have to take a shower tonight to deodorize. (TMI?) 'Nuf said.

But the trip was a success. As we were loading the back of the truck at the lumber yard, a very nice gentleman who must have been 10 years older than we are, stopped to ask if we needed any help. I don't think it was that we looked so incapable of doing the job but rather the magnitude of the load.

Tomorrow we will hopefully work on the floor tile in the pantry. It's such a small room that if all goes well, I'm going to go out on a limb and say we can finish it in one day. Maybe. We'll see.

Doesn't the pink on the walls bring out the pink in the floor tile just perfectly? I didn't even know there waaaas any pink in the tiles. Ooooh, what am I going to do?? I haaate pink!

I didn't have the oompf left to go out into the strawberry patch as I should have when we got home and unloaded. It was still so hot out there. (I'm sorry, Erin, I don't really know what hot is, do I?) So I will have to get those berries picked tomorrow along with processing them. If we don't have a heavy dew, I'll go out as soon in the morning as I can. Depending on how much of a harvest I get, in the name of simplicity (and the need to keep going on the construction work), I may give them away and only keep enough for our fresh eating. That will save me the time of processing them. So bring your containers and line up at the door around 10 tomorrow morning, 'kay? And if you want to stay and help lay tile, that will be fine, too.

Oh, I don't envy you laying tile. After doing our kitchen, I've vowed to never again lay tile... at least not until the next time LOL!
We were definitely in the triple H weather (hazy, hot and humid) as well. I hope you get lots done tomorrow.

I don't like heat much, either. When it is done I will be happy to come and lay on your nice cool tile!!

Well, if I lived close to you, I might consider stopping by! I'm a great stupor-visor! I'd even bring you some lemonade, to help with the heat.

I'll be on the next plane down to get my strawberries and help with the tile. A girl can dream can't she?
It's so hard to tell what something will look like until it's done and I think the colors look fantastic together and won't be as pink it looks now.
I have to take my daughter to the Dr's tomorrow and we have to walk. It's been in the 90's and tonight it's not cooling down at all so I'm thinking that tomorrow is going to be another hot one. I may have to treat myself to something if I make it home. LOL!

I hope you didn't hex yourself saying you think you can get it done in a day!!
I'm sure that Pinkish tinge will not be so noticeable when that room is filled with goodies.
Have a great day, Mama Pea. We're looking forward to seeing the progress your making!

Judy - Not looking forward to the job myself!! (I'd rather repaint the walls in another color . . . hahahaha!)

2 Tramps - I DO keep thinking during this hot spell about how cooool the pantry room is going to be to walk into when it's all done!

Lori - Whadda gal! You'd be welcome.

Sparkless - Doesn't it seem like extreme heat has kicked in all over the country??

Sue - Wouldn't you know I thought all night about making that dumb prediction that we could get that dumb floor done in one day? Okay, I take it all back, Fate! I'll be happy to shoot for finished in three days!

P.S. Strawberries are your zucchini right now!

judy - Sending best wishes to you concerning this latest medical situation with your husband.

This morning it's cool here. Only 70, so I gotta get things watered asap or it will be too hot also.

Sorry the room is going pink on you. I'm hoping once its loaded you wont notice it. I hate when colors change on you like that.

If I didn't have to water this morning, I'd be begging at your back door. ;)

Once you get the tiling finished I don't think it will look as pink, as there won't be any whitish stuff to compare it to. And then there are the shelves and cupboards to cover some of it too, along with all your goodies.
You will be happy with it - YOU WILL!!!!! LOL

I don't know about laying tile (which is NOT one of my talents), but I sure would volunteer to help you out with your strawberries!

I'll be sure to stop by with empty containers and hungry kids soon - they will soon decimate your berry patch, LOL

Looks like you got the peel & sticks, those really do hold well, I've used them before when I had a hair to do the bathroom and hubby was deployed (he used to be a tile guy so I don't step on his toes LOL). Worst case scenario, you can repaint and the paint will bring out a different tone. I had the exact same pattern and different paint definitely does different things to the color. Wait until you get the cabinets in before you worry about it, they might change the look yet again! Another thing that works is to paint the lower third of the walls a different color, but you will have stuff lining the walls so I don't think you will have anything to worry about.

I feel for you on the heat. Heat is bad (to me!) anywhere it is, not just here, so I'm sure one day I'll be suffering right along with ya! I'll just be thankful that it isn't 4 straight months of the year :)

Have fun with that panty, I think you are being too critical because it's your own, and everything will turn out beautiful!

I wouldnt call that pink, I would call it whitewashed with berry juice. You know like when your done processing your berries and you go to wipe up the mess with a damp towel and it really just smears it across the counter. Well, I have white countertops(I didnt put them in), so maybe that just happens to me. Never the less, once the cabinets in are I am sure the tile will pick up the browns. I do think the tile is very pretty.

okay, the pic might be too small, but I don't see any pink in the tile. maybe it's your rose-colored glasses? ;)

APG - The color on the walls in the pantry seems to change a lot depending on time of day and how much light is on it. And I do know once everything is in there, I won't even notice the walls. Really. Yupper. For sure. O-kay.

Yvette - Thanks, my little cheerleader!

Susan - Knowing you, you would be right in the midst of the flooring job if asked. Then I'd feed you strawberries afterwards.

Jen - What is it about fresh strawberries that is so appealing? You just have to pop a couple in your mouth while picking.

Erin - You have a very good point about things looking different when we get the wooden cabinets in there. I'm hoping the eye will be drawn to the cabinets and shelves more than the wall color.

Jane - Whitewashed with berry juice . . . I love it! (My counters do the same thing.) Thanks for the pep talk!

Dmarie - You are absolutely right. (I hope!) I've psyched myself out so much by the pinkish cast to the beige walls that I'm seeing it everywhere. Itwillbefineitwillbefineitwillbefine. Ohm-m-m-m-m/
