This is a familiar refrain heard a lot around these here parts lately. Well, it IS winter time. Boy-howdy, is it ever.
We're in the midst of a very cold snap. With wind. Which always makes it seem much worse than even the temperature would indicate.
But the good thing is we're getting frequent snows now (even though I always thought zero degrees was NOT a good snowing temp) so we have plenty of insulation for the ground and plants and enough to bank up around the buildings. We've not had any really huge snowfalls right in our area but rather have had frequent accumulations of 4" or 3" or 8" or 6". You get the idea. Nothing overwhelming but it does keep piling up.
This is our bird bath in the yard doing a good imitation of a mushroom, don't you think?
The view out the window over my kitchen sink is not hard to take . . . if you're snow lovers as we are.
These are some pretty impressive icicles hanging from the roof of our someday-to-be greenhouse.
I sure do appreciate the beauty of winter time. It's nearly 5 p.m. now and we're getting another lovely snowfall as the day fades into dusk. About 1" of new stuff so far. Wonder how much we'll have by morning's light?
P.S. Don't forget to scroll down to yesterday's post if you haven't seen it already and enter the caption contest for one of Chicken Mama's 2011 photographic calendars.

Your pics are so pretty-glad you're finally getting the snow. We are too, but it's just been too darn cold. I trek out 4 or 5 times a day to keep the bird bath thawed, but that's been about it.
I couldn't come up with a thing for a caption, I'm so lousy with stuff like that. But what a cute picture.
You are right, it is very pretty! Who knew you could grow mushrooms like that ;)
The view from your window is beautiful! We have had some snow ,but not that much. Glad you are enjoying the snow. Blessings jane
Sue - Oh, you're such a good bird mommy! I'm sure they really appreciate the water you're providing for them. Ours birds probably have frost-bitten beaks from eating snow.
APG - Ha! If only I COULD grow mushrooms . . . I was thinking about that tonight as I was making our pizza with fresh mushrooms on it!
Jane2 - Thanks, Jane. No snow is okay unless you get the frigid temps. Then septic lines and plantings start to suffer. Hope you don't have that trouble.
I'm just a wee bit jealous. We've gotten almost no snow this winter. Just lots of cold. It feels so barren and desolate...
It is very pretty, I agree. But that is why I like living in PA, the four seasons. I am just ready to move on to the next.
BEAUTIFUL! Looks like we need to shift our vacations about 2-3 weeks out to get the full snow effect! Looks like quilting studio weather... you ARE in there, aren't you?!
JJ - Barren and desolate . . . that's how I feel everything around here looks after the leaves are all down and before the snow comes. Wishing you a nice beautifying snowfall soon!
Jane - No, no, let's not move on to spring quite yet. I've still got too many inside projects to get at!
Erin - I actually have been in the quilt studio a little. Trying to get a quilt blog post up tonight.
