First Snow Cover

We have a different look to our world outside this morning.

Getting the deck furniture put away yesterday was on our list, but . . . um, it didn't get done. The above picture was taken at 6 a.m. this morning. Looks as though we got 2-3" of very wet, heavy snow.

The garden beds had their winter blanket pulled up and tucked in.

No ice on the pond at this temperature. Can you see the two geese and one wild duck foraging for food? They're waddling around saying, "Well, hrumpf! I know there was green grass here yesterday."

I don't know if this first snow cover will stay or not. The forecast is for our temperatures to plummet this coming week, but the thermometer presently reads 32.6° and is creeping upwards. Time will tell.

It's so pretty! Isn't it always until after January though? Then it just starts to look like "muck".

Poor little goose and ducks!

You never know, you may use that patio furniture again. When I get dressed to ride snowmobiles I have on 125 layers of clothes and a one piece suit. I could very easily sit there and drink some, oh I don't know, maybe some wine, and look out over the beautiful blanket of snow. But you must have the 125 layers or it is just plain crazy.

There is something so magical about a first snow fall.

Lucky Lucky Lucky. You. Not the critters. Oh, I want snow so bad I can taste it!
Have you ever sat out and had a bonfire while it's snowing? Amazing. At night, it looks like your going through the galaxy when the snow comes down like crazy.
Enjoy!
And jealousy, jealousy, jealousy!!!

Uck, that doesn't bode well for us...they are saying all that cold will be here in a week or so:( I am not ready for snow...oh I got the outside stuff in the other day with the kids help, just mentally not ready lol.

Stay warm!

Beautiful pictures. When that first snowfall covers everything, the world looks to be a very peaceful place. The the shoveling begins and mucks up the whole scene.

We had 2-3 inches about a week ago, it melted and we haven't seen a flake since. I really am looking forward to our first snowfall that will stay until spring!!

Fantastic! Although snow at that temp is usually a nightmare, melting during the day and refreezing at night for a lovely joyride if you have to be out in it! I hope she drops down to 28 or so! Good on you for getting all the beds ready, I know you are really looking at that snow and thinking "quilting season has officially arrived"! Someone fire the starting pistol!

LOL we just put all the 'outside-relaxin' furniture away before our first snow at the end of October.

Mother nature (prankster she is)
gifted us with wonderful brilliant sun & high 60s these past two days.
(How I would have loved to have had my porch-bits still out to use). So it's a toss up mamma pea! Put away = no snow and left out = snow? LOL

Lovely pics - as always!

At least your first snowfall of the season was pretty! Ours was sleet :|

APG - Fortunately, we (usually) get frequent enough snowfalls to keep everything looks fairly white. Sometimes old snowbanks look pretty bad but otherwise we're covered with white until April!

Not one chicken ventured out today. Cowards.

Jane - Our south facing deck does get pretty warm on a windless sunny winter day and we always say we should sit out there (with as much skin exposed as possible) to get some sunshine Vitamin D during the winter. Maybe this will be the winter we'll get into the habit.

Kelly - I know we always look forward to it.

Sue - What a great idea! I'm gonna insist we do that this winter! Thanks for the idea. Wishing you snow SOON!

Stephanie - I'd say you're in good shape if you've got the outside stuff done. Good job!

Yvette - I think we ended up with just over 3". It's so wet and the temp is staying warm so we didn't even shovel thinking it might melt.

Erin - Can't you just picture me in my starting stance pointed toward the quilt studio?? Hahahaha!!

Faye - I know, the weather is always perverse enough to not let us get ahead. We did put the stuff away today so tomorrow we'll probably see some of that 60 degree weather!

Alison - Oh, how I hate sleet and ice. That's one of the reasons we left Illinois years ago. The whole winter there is freezing rain, sleet and ice!

I can't imagine snow cover into April! Agghhh!

So are we going to get an update post with totals? The weatherman here says you guys got it pretty good! Power outages and all. Hope you are safe and warm!

APG - Ya have to wonder where the media gets its information! We had a little over 3" (not much to write home about) but heard the western part of the county got more than that but I haven't heard just how much. The roads were very slippery last night 'cause the temp was right at freezing but are in fairly good shape today. Down to pavement on main roads and the gravel roads are just muddy. No power outages that we've heard of. We are warm and safe and enjoying the "new" landscape we're looking out on today.

That is just too cool, snow already. We are always left wondering how much we will have. So wonder I will.
Were any snowballs flying around?

Mama Pea said...

Lorie - Nope, no snowballs flying so far! Some of the 3+" has melted because it hasn't gotten as cold this week as first predicted. Darn. We like to shoot for skating on the pond on Thanksgiving but doesn't look like it's going to happen this year. :o(
