We had too many chickens to carry over winter and too many birds that were not earning their keep anymore. Old age had finally caught up with a few of them so they needed to be culled.
Because our daughter, Chicken Mama, lost every last one of her chickens to that marauding fisher wreaking havoc on her homestead in the last few months, she was feeling unhappy being chickenless . . . and eggless, too.
Although she knew our culled birds probably wouldn't be producing great amounts of eggs, they might lay one now and then so she said she would take them if we didn't want them for stewing hens.
Our freezers are stuffed to over flowing right now so we gladly told her she could take them. Her chicken house, also known as the Taj Ma Coop, will be such a culture shock to our hens after their little ramshackled quarters here that they'll think they've died and gone to chicken heaven.
Five hens and one splendid rooster ready to go for a ride.
Comfortably ensconced in the back seat of Chicken Mama's truck and ready for the hour ride to their new home.
Bon Voyage, Chickies (and Big Rooster). Make us proud and lay an egg now and then.

Yeah! Every ChickenMama should have chickens! I hope all goes well for them!
I do hope they have a fabulous time in the Taj Ma Coop. And Apple Pie Gal is right - every Chicken Mama needs some chickens! Hopefully they'll provide a tasty egg now and then. ;)
APG - Yupper, it didn't seem right to have to start calling her Chickenless Mama. :o(
Mama Tea - I say give them a week to settle in and she'll see the first egg. I hope.
Yippy Skippy! She's still Chicken Mama instead of Chickenless Mama. I got a kick out of the Taj Ma Coop. What a name!

Those chickens will think they crossed into Arctic Circle. They are going from inches of snow to feet of snow. You should name the rooster Shackleton.
Lori - It's a lovely chicken house. Nice and bright. They don't even have to step little clawed foot out into the snow all winter if they don't want to.
Jane - Shackleton!! What a perfect name for a rooster. You gave me a LOL on that one this morning!
I had a feeling they were your chickens LOL! She posted on Facebook she was taking chickens home and I was wondering where she got chickens this time of year and I figured! Nice to see she had the truck, I had visions of her with the 2 dogs and all the chickens in the little smartmobile! What a pardon to grant these chickens, I hope they will reward her with at least a few eggs. The Tajmacoop reminds me of my uncle's "Garage Mahal"... it's barely a garage anymore, it's a shrine to his bass boat with a loft and bedroom and bath, a game room and last time we were up there he had a soda machine coverted to a Leine's dispenser LOL
Oh yeah!! Chicken Mama has chickens again! Hopefully that marauder has moved on and won't bother her anymore. Can she make the pen smaller and cover it with chicken wire?
I love the name Taj Ma Coop. When we were building my coop, if something didn't match up just right, I got over it by saying that it wasn't the Taj Ma Hall. I may look at it differently now.

Erin - She has such a love for chickens that I'm sure she'll enjoy just watching these old gals (and guy) but I do sincerely hope they give her enough eggs to at least enable her to have one for breakfast now and then. It's so hard to buy eggs when you're used to having your own fresh ones. Unfortunately, ours are still molting and we barely have enough right now for the two of us.
Yvette - She'll most likely keep the poultry in the chicken house for the winter but she does have plans for a more secure outside run next year.
